12.8.99 Division Six Sportsman Motorcycle Will Undergo Changes in 2000

Two new changes in Sportsman Motorcycle were recently announced at the NHRA Northwest Division Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series Track Operators Conference. The changes were made after extensive research into the rapidly growing program.

"Sportsman Motorcycle is growing at a rapid pace in the Northwest Division and we have been extremely pleased with the increase in performances of our racers," explained Northwest Director Chris Blair. "While we don't want to fix what isn't broken, these new steps are being taken to insure that the level of competition continues to increase."

The first announcement was a change in the e.t. break for the class. For the last three seasons the class has adhered to a 7.50 - 11.99 range. With fewer and fewer racers dialing-in slower than 11 seconds, it was decided to recognize increased performance. As a result, racers competing in Sportsman Motorcycle will now dial-in between 7.50 and 10.99.

"For many years it was necessary to have the wide e.t. range because we relied on e.t. racers to help fill our shows," continued Blair. "We are now seeing more and more drag bikes built just for our program and fewer and fewer e.t. racers. We hope that the quicker times will encourage more drag bikes from other tours to begin following the Northwest Division tour.

The other changes in the class was in the use of data recorders and on-board computers. Beginning at the first event of 2000, no data recorders or on-board computers will be permitted in Divisional competition.

"Everyone agrees that data recorders and on-board computers had to be eliminated now," said Blair. "Many riders were contemplating the purchase of these items and we had to make a decision that would insure an even level of competition. We wanted to eliminate any gray areas in our rules and put it all in black and white."

NHRA Division Six To Debut New Event Format in 2000

Seattle, Wa. Fans and competitors at 2000 NHRA Northwest Division Six Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series events will witness an all new approach to event production when the series kicks off next April in Boise, Idaho. A new event format will raise the entertainment level for the thousands of fans packing the grandstands while also providing racers with better tracing conditions.

"We're not re-inventing the wheel or anything," exxplained Division Director Chris Blair. "We are simply looking at different ways of making our events action packed from start to finish. This new formula breaks away from the way it has been and looks at our races from a fans point of view."

Instead of the traditional NHRA format of running Federal Mogul Dragster and Federal Mogul Funny Cars together every 90 minutes, Division Six events will split classes evenly throughout the schedule. Now fans will be able to witness 250 mile-per-hour, five-second qualifying and elimination passes every hour on the hour.

The typical event format will see Federal Mogul Funny car slated for Noon, 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. The Federal Mogul Dragsters will take to the quarter mile at 1:00, 3:00 and close the show at 5:00 p.m. Federal Mogul Funny Car will be paired with Top Comp throughout the run order and Federal Mogul Dragster will team up with Competition Eliminator to showcase the tour's premiere cars.

At most NHRA Northwest division FMDRS three day events, each class will recieve one qualifying run on Friday (2:00 p.m. for Funny Car and 3:00 p.m. for Dragster), two runs each on Saturday (Noon and 4:00 p.m. for Funny Car and 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for Dragster) and eliminations on Sunday. At selected two day events drivers will receive all three qualifying runs on Saturday at the same scheduled times as their three rounds of Sunday eliminations.

"Without compromising the basic integrity of the sport, we also need to look at the value of entertainment in our Federal Mogul Drag Racing series events", continued Blair. "People want action and we neeed to be able to give it to them as consistantly as possible. By eliminating the 90 minute-to-2 hour breaks between feature cars we are giving them a reason to stay in their seats and enjoy all of our classes."

The new program met with overwhelming approval from the Division Six track operators and was well received by Federal Mogul racers as well. As a result of the response, Blair decided to implement the program at all six 2000 events instead of testing it at selected races.

"The racers liked the idea because they know it means more consistecy in the pits, more preparation times and less waiting in the staging lanes," continued Blair. "Our racers and track operators also know what it takes to keep the grandstands packed and we are all working together to make 2000 our biggest year ever.

MOTORCYCLE RESULTS ARE IN!!!

The NHRA Northwest Division Sportsman Motorcycle points standings are now in and it was an incredible finish.

J. Glenn Miller earned a total of 427 points in 7 races (all six Division Six points races and one Division 7 race) with his 5 best finishes (which count toward the title) earning him a total of 356.

Brian Hudson earned a total of 461 points in eight races (five in division as he missed Eagle and three Division 7) with his 5 best finishes (which count toward the title) earning him a total of 349.

That means that J. Glenn captures the title by just seven points. 356 to 349.

J. Glenn also captured a clean sweep as both the Division Six Sears Craftsman Champion and Federal Mogul Champion.

Brain went to Phoenix to attempt to better a 41 point effort. By finishing runner-up in the out of division race where there were only 15 entries, he earned 60 points in his last effort.

Had two more bikes entered the Phoenix event, and Brian had his runner-up finish, he would have earned enough points to capture the title (because he would have earned points for another round of eliminations).

It basically boils down to this; J. Glenn won the championship by not going to Phoenix and not sending any of his fellow division six racers to attempt blocking Hudson.

In all it was a great points race in a fantastic season. 31 riders from division six competed for points in 1999. Less than 5 years ago this class was on the chopping block for lack of participation. At this time I know of at least five new riders who are going to chase points in 2000 which will push the class along even further.

A special thank you goes out to George and Jackie Bryce of Star Racing, Greg Coen of Greg Coen American Motorcycles, Buff Kobs of Buff's Drywall and The Wingdome of North Seattle. These companies joined forces with the hard work of Mike and Romona Scott of Motorsports Unlimited to give this class a much needed boost. Also, a tip of the hat goes to all of the racers who supported the program.

-Chris Blair

10.28.99 A note from Chris Blair:

I found out this morning that the landowners of Drag City Raceway in Pocatello, Idaho have terminated the lease of track operator's Ed and Wendy Jones. The final event at the 1/8 mile track will take place on Saturday, October 9, 1999.

According to Ed, the chemical company that owns the land had come under a tremendous amount of pressure from the EPA regarding the land use. The track was built on a designated "buffer zone" that was required for the plant's operation. With recent investigations taking place at the plant they felt it would be in their best interest to take as much attention away from their activities as possible and the track was a primary target.

Ed indicated that every attempt was made to protect the racing activity but the chemical company had its mind set on closing the strip no matter what steps were taken. There are a couple of groups in the area looking at property to build a new facility but Ed has hung up his hat as a track operator and plans to go on the road with his wheelstander.

While being one of our smallest and most remote facilities, Drag City had an average car count of more than 100 per event and always supported the Sears Craftsman E.T. Finals. Ed had rescued the track from near death several years ago and had poured countless energy and money into its rebirth. Ed was one of the leading tracks in our division for generating sponsor revenue and special promotions. The contributions of the Jones family will be greatly missed by all of us in Division Six.

If any of you would like to drop Ed a letter of encouragement his address is: 45 Bush Avenue, Malad, ID 83252

Some good news to report is that the fundraising goals of Ashcroft were met and the track will be able to continue next season. The track underwent a major repaving project in July and more than $48,000 was needed to pay for the project. Recent restrictions from the Canadian government prevented the Nl'Akapxm Indian Band from funding the project from other revenue sources.

With the help of hundreds of donations, the Eagle Motorplex entered this past weekend's National Open needing at least 170 entries to cover their remaining debts and give the track fund operating capital to open the doors in 2000. 230 racers from 3 Canadian provinces and 3 states supported the race (more than they had at May's Federal Mogul event).

10.27.99 After a hectic summer of sheer survival, the crew of the Eagle Motoplex pulled off a great event this past weekend. Not only did the B.C. racers come to support the facility, but a large number of Alberta racers and spectators made the journey. The American contingent was few, but those who made the long haul were well appreciated, as many people noted to me personally.

They were all here in support what this reporter considers the best loved track in the country. Sure you can pick out a few inconsistencies, but overall the Eagle Motorplex has probably the hardest core of 'supportive' people of any track you care to mention. Many were here for the first time to try out the new surface. Upon arrival I got a personal tour by Asst. Mgr. Bill Kraus who pointed out a number of items a few probably missed. Check out the Misc. foto page for more. How good the track was depended on who you talked to but the majority loved it. Only a couple of racers mentioned to me that there was still a bit of a groove in the left lane, but many did not even notice it when I asked them about it. Of note was that the event did see two new NHRA national records, an 11.036/118.96mph effort from Richmond's Rick McKinney in his GT/IA Olds as well as Norm LaPoint setting the N/SA mark at 12.539/104.85 and the 1/8th mile mark as well at 7.918/85.65mph.

About the only sour note was a few money winners who were not fully aware of the prorated payout scale that you can see just below on this page. I am told that track manager Wyatt McMurray will be sending in an email to be posted here shortly to further explain the situation. Then there was the Sportsman competitor who was caught with an ancient, but still illegal, delay box under the carpet of his Mopar. Oops.

On a fun note was veteran Super Street competitor Brian Murphy jumping for joy as his name was announced as winner of the raffle race car, the cool Beaumont. He had been just yards away from the tower in the lanes, as he had purchased his ticket less than ten minutes before sales were ended just a half hour before! The winner of nothing more than ten bucks on the 649, Brian has some relatives who want to go drag racing. That means at least one more new racer for Eagle as the car will go no further away than Kelowna. Cool!

The racing was classic Eagle with Top Comp taking all the headlines after Surrey's Glen Braid drove his street legal '66 Canso to the final round victory over the stout dragster of Kim Brynn from Tacoma. Speaking later with both racers and officials, this record-setting win by a street car, combined with the runner-up effort of Don Murray's licensed Corvette at the Mission FMDRS a few months ago does two things. First it establishes southwestern BC as the undisputed street machine capital of the entire division and gives the local street legal program a massive shot in the arm. Then two, it gives T/C a look and feel nobody expected it would have. Who could have imagined when the class was established that street cars would play as big a role as they have in the success of NHRA's first ever season of T/C racing. Sure T/C needs some fine-tuning, but from a spectator and sponsor point-of-view it's a promoters dream come true. Hopefully the powers-to-be will stroke this racecar vs. street car thing into more money, more fans, more exposure and more fun than anyone ever thought possible twelve months ago. Hey, the street car guys are pumped, and I'm sure more than a few 'racecar' guys will be looking for a bunch of payback once T/C come back to B.C. in the spring of 2000.

There are many, many more stories to tell of these two days, so make sure you check out our complete coverage that starts right here. LP

Larry,
Woodburn beat Portland 83-68 in the Team Race on Sunday. Seattle was third and Boise was 4th. Jody Lang won Sportsman on Sat. and Sun. in two different cars and J. Glenn Miller beat Ruben Marroquin (Woodburn) on Sat. only to lose the Motorcycle final on Sunday to another team Woodburn member, Mike Fordice. Woodburn also won the Team race Saturday (this year, points did NOT carry over), beating Mission 40-23.

Other winners were:

Friday Gambler's: Electronics - Al Chinn (Mission) Non-Electronics - Jerry Weber (Woodburn) 158 entries!!! Motorcycle - Mike Scott (SIR) def. Fordice

Saturday Race of Champions: S/Pro - I have forgotten the winner's name - guy from Bremerton in a '68 Camaro. Sorry!! He beat Cory Gates from Woodburn. Pro - Gary Feaurborn (not sure if it's spelled right but it's pronounced Fear-born) (Seattle)

Sunday: S/Pro - Gary Hostetler (Portland) def. Rob Willis (Seattle) Pro - John Cymbala (Madras) def. Jeff Kidd (Woodburn) Jr. Dragster (11.00 & Slower) - Casey DePeel (Woodburn) def. Amanda Bailey (Madras) Jr. Dragster (8.90-10.99) - Michael Thompson (Seattle) def. Amanda Elliott (Yakima) Jr. Overall - Thompson def. DePeel

I spaced out the two Sportsman runners-up - Sat. was a lady from Pocatello and Sunday was a guy from Seattle. Also, a guy from Boise beat a guy from Montana in the Snowmachine class. Hopefully others can fill you in on these missing names.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely, Jonathan Adams Woodburn Dragstrip

OLYMPIA RESIDENT, CARLSON COLLECTS FIRST WIN OF YEAR AT RENEGADE RACEWAY

YAKIMA, Wash. - 1998 Northwest Division Federal-Mogul Dragster Champion, Dale Carlson of Olympia, Wash. and 1998 runner-up in the Federal-Mogul Funny Car Northwest Division championship, Bucky Austin of Fife, Wash. finally got their first wi

ns of the year in the last race of the 1999 Northwest Division season. Carlson made up for his disappointing season of bad luck and lack of performance with a well-deserved win. In round one, Carlson faced Mike McHargue of Lewiston, Idaho and posted the fastest run ever at Renegade Raceway with a run of 5.674 seconds at 247.99 mph to down McHargue. In the semi-finals, Carlson met up with Mark Hentges of Federal Way, Wash. who had a chance at the Northwest division Federal-Mogul Dragster Championship with a win in Yakima. Hentges made a great run of 5.787 seconds at 243.42 mph but was beat by Carlson's stellar run 5.695 seconds at 247.48 mph to dash Hentges championship hopes and advance to the finals. In the finals, Carlson matched up with Darren Nicholson of Laguna Hills, Calif and won on Nicholson's foul start to take the Federal-Mogul Dragster win.

"This is our first lucky break this year," said an ecstatic Carlson. "We have either had good luck or a good car at every race this year and finally we got some luck with a good car. I hope this keeps up next weekend in Indy at the U.S. Nationals."

Austin also made-up for a sub-par year with his first win in Federal-Mogul Funny Car this year. In the first round of eliminations, Austin faced John Hyland of Springfield, Ore. and beat him on a hole-shot with a run of 6.088 seconds at 232.64 mph to Hyland's run of 6.064 seconds at 235.69 mph. Round two Austin ran against John Weaver of Hanford, Calif. and posted a new track record for time and speed with a run of 5.856 seconds at 242.48 mph to advance to the finals against Steve Sommer of Nampa, Idaho. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NHRA FEDERAL-MOGUL DRAG RACING SERIES RENEGADE RACEWAY FRIDAY, AUGUST 27, 1999

CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS WEAVER, NICHOLSON MAKE THEMSELVES AT HOME AT RENEGADE RACEWAY

YAKIMA, Wash. -John Weaver of Hanford, Calif. and Darren Nicholson of Laguna Hills, Calif. took Renegade Raceway by storm Friday night, taking the No. 1 qualifying positions in Federal-Mogul Funny Car and Federal-Mogul Dragster, respectively.

Weaver drove around eighteen other Federal-Mogul Funny Cars to collect the Winston Top Qualifier award of $1000 and the right to face No. 8 qualifier Dan McGlone of Gladstone, Ore. After the first two qualifying sessions, Weaver held the No. 1 qualifying position with a run of 5.940 seconds at 239.18 mph on a hot and slippery track. In the final qualifying session three drivers, John Hyland of Springfield, Ore., Pat Austin of Tacoma, Wash., and Steve Sommer of Nampa, Idaho made quicker runs to take the No. 1 qualifying position away from Weaver until he came up to make his final run. Weaver came to the starting line knowing he had to run quicker than Sommer's run of 5.920 seconds to reacquire the No. 1 qualifying position. Weaver took the challenge and made the quickest Federal-Mogul Funny Car run of the day with a run of 5.902 seconds at 238.89 mph.

"We beat out a lot of great cars and drivers tonight," said Weaver. "This may have been the toughest field I have ever seen at a point race. I was happy to make the eight car field but taking the No. 1 spot was a great accomplishment for this team."

Nicholson made the most of his last qualifying attempt by taking the $1000 >from Winston for the No. 1 qualifying position. Nicholson beat out the 1998 Northwest Division Champion, Dale Carlson of Olympia, Wash. to take the No. 1 qualifying position with a run of 5.691 seconds at 245.72 mph. All three rounds of FMD/FMFC Qualifying (as well as Comp and Top Comp) will take place on Friday at 3, 6 and 9 p.m.

Notice to all Top Comp Racers:

Upon arrival at Renegade this weekend each registered Top Comp participant will receive a ballot to elect two representatives to serve as Driver's Reps.  These racers will be given some fact finding assignments and will need to prepare materials prior to the 1999 NW Division Track Operators Meeting.  If you will not be attending Yakima but have competed in at least one Top Comp event, please give us a call to do your voting over the phone. Call Lori at 360-698-3828 on either Wednesday or Thursday to choose your representative.  (All representative nominees must have competed in a minimum of 4 events so far in 1999).

Also, the 1999 NW Division Awards Banquet will be held at the Seatle Marriott (at Sea-Tac) on December 4 (Saturday). The NW Super Comp Association will have its meeting and party the night before at the same hotel.  Since the entire racing universe will be at the Marriott on that weekend they are providing a special rate of $64 per night (versus something like $95 last year).  We moved the date two weeks later this year to avoid travel conflicts for those returning from Pomona and for better room availability and rates.  Call Lori at 360-698-3828 to get info on the NHRA banquet and contact the NW Super Comp Association for info on their meeting.

Finally, there may be some rumblings out there about Aubrey Holmes and the NHRA Northwest Division.  A few weeks ago I had talked to Aubrey about representing our division and, specifically, the Canadian National Open Series in some future development plans.  I had asked Aubrey to help cultivate some relationships that may lead to future sponsors and/or marketing partners for the 2000 series... this will not change due to his resignation from MRP.

Aubrey, most likely, will work at several NHRA events in 2000 in this capacity. Due to all the rumors and other postings that have taken place I wanted to let everyone know what was going on well in advance of their seeing Aubrey at either Medford or Ashcroft.  I didn't want the rumor mill going full blast or anyone getting caught by surprise.

Dear Racers:

The Northwest Division Office has received numerous calls and e-mails regarding the MRP matter. We would like to point out that we are the sanctioning body that provides rules for the Sears Craftsman Series and, on two occasions annually, we have contracted events at MRP.  We are not in the position to tell Mission, or any of our other member tracks, how to conduct their day-to-day business operations.

I appreciate your concerns and thank all of you for being so passionate about our sport.  Should you have any concerns regarding the way races are being run or technical inspections at any NHRA member track, I would expect you to give us a call. Good luck with the remainder of your season.

Sincerely,
Chris Blair

NHRA PARTNERS WITH SFX SPORTS, A GLOBAL LEADER IN SPORTS MARKETING, ON TELEVISION SPONSPORSHIP & MARKETING EFFORTS

Partnership Viewed as an Important Step in the Association's Three-Year Plan to Maximize the Marketability, Sponsorship Value & Growth of the Sport

GLENDORA, Calif. (June 28, 1999) - National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Executive Vice President and General Manager, Tom Compton announced today a strategic partnership on the Association's sports television package with SFX Sports Group, part of SFX Entertainment Inc., based in New York.

The NHRA will work with SFX Sports to secure long-term, high profile television contracts that will bring the sport of NHRA drag racing to more fans than ever before. SFX Sports specializes in the representation of athletes and broadcasters, integrated event management, television programming and production and marketing consulting services. SFX is the world's largest diversified promoter, producer and venue operator for live entertainment events.

"SFX Sports brings the experience and wherewithal to accomplish our primary goal to increase the growth of NHRA drag racing," said Compton. "The demand for the sport is clearly there, we expect that SFX Sports is going to make the deals that quench our loyal fans' desire for our unique brand of racing as well as attract new fans to the sport."

SFX Sports has specialized in creating integrated television, marketing and sponsorship packages for teams, leagues and organizations such as Major League Baseball, The ATP Tour, The Pro Bowlers Association and Little League Baseball among others.

"We are well aware that the fastest growing segment in the sports television industry is motorsports and we fully intend to help NHRA take advantage of television sponsorship and marketing opportunities so that it becomes the premier motorsports organization," said Mike Trager, president, television and entertainment at SFX Sports.

This is the second of three important strategic relationships for the NHRA. In March the Association announced its relationship with Hill and Knowlton, one of the world's largest global public relations firms to broaden the scope of the NHRA's overall communications e

fforts. The third piece of the strategic partnership is expected shortly as the NHRA will announce its advertising agency of record. The move was applauded both inside and outside the Association as an important step forward with the organization's commitment to a three-year plan to maximize the marketability and popularity of the sport.

"The NHRA is clearly committed to raising the level of prestige and bringing more fans and sponsors to the sport of drag racing," said John Force, the winningest Funny Car driver in NHRA history with his Castrol GTX Ford Mustang. "It is going to take a collective effort to accomplish our goals for the sport, and it is nice to know that the Association is bringing in the right strategic partners heading into the next century."

"The NHRA is a primary component of our sports marketing program -- both through our sponsorship of the Budweiser King Racing Team and our status as the official beer of the NHRA," said Tony Ponturo, vice president of corporate media and sports marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "We're glad to see the NHRA and SFX teaming up to make the sport a more attractive investment for sponsors."

"We are putting the pieces in place that will strengthen the NHRA's position within the sports community as it approaches its second 50 years and a new century," said Compton. "We are bringing in world class organizations, under the direction of our internal staff, that will build NHRA drag racing into one of the most formidable motorsports in the world."

05.06.99- Coverage of what may well be the biggest Federal-Mogul race ever starts today with some exclusive pre-race comments and photos.

04.29.99- Take a look at all that Boise coverage and imagine your company logo atop every page. It's the best drag racing promo opportunity on the web. Target Division 5,6 & 7 customers like no other venue can give you. Support this site, help make it bigger and better, and assist us in traveling to all these events. Please note your involvment is a one time payment that lasts the LIFE of this site, not a one month or even one year deal. LP

04.24.99- The Boise coverage just keeps on coming, see link above, and Mission is looking like a winner:

As of April 22, 1999 here is the official entry list for Federal Mogul Dragster and Federal Mogul Funny Car for the May 7-9 event at Mission Raceway Park in Mission, B.C. These drivers have either entered through the track or the Division Six offices.

Federal Mogul Dragster:

  1. Dale Carlson
  2. David Trimble
  3. Mark Hentges
  4. Steve Federlin
  5. Brett Hordemann
  6. Gary Ormsby, Jr.
  7. Melanie Troxel
  8. Kim Parker
  9. Duane Shields
  10. Mike McHarque
  11. Ken Remple

Federal Mogul Funny Car:

  14. Mike Giuliani

There are still a couple of weeks remaining for entries so there are sure to be even more. We also have a couple of guys who are notorious for entering on the last possible date. It's a heck of a start and we expect this to be the biggest field ever in Division Six and, possibly, the biggest field of Federal Mogul cars at a non-National Event facility.

04.19.99- The Boise results are here. I will be adding much more over the next few days.LP

04.11.99- Below is a message from DD Chris Blair. Over the winter we blazed the email lines with ideas on how we could work together. Anything 'official' was not on the table, so we had to be rather creative.

This 'new' relationship really doesn't change things much around here. It leaves the door open to the kind of coverage I like to do, and most of you seemingly like to see. What it does do is provide all of you with a place to go to air your views, ask questions, and get much of the latest news of happenings around the Division.

I hope to be able to ad more in coming weeks including points standings. About all we have to sort out is getting the results in a way that does not have to see me spending hours re-typing them. We're working on it.

If there's anything you would like to see please let me or Chris Blair know.LP

04.07.99- Sorry to make this first installment look like a plea for money, but hey, I want to do this full time. Think of the fun we could all have...LP

Sixth Sense Division Six Newsletter March/April Issue

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -April 8, 1999

Dear Horsepower Heaven fans,

As most of you are aware, the Internet can both be a valuable source of information and confusing source of misinformation. In an effort to give the racers and fans of the Northwest Division a place they can turn for facts, I have asked Larry Pfister to help us. Larry will now attend the events as a member of my Certification Team, gather information from the tracks, racers and officials and compile all of his findings on Horsepower Heaven.

I plan on regularly faxing, e-mailing and calling Larry with up to the minute information that is important to our racers, fans and track operators to quickly communicate with everyone. If you see something on the NHRA Division Six page of Horsepower Heaven you know that it has either been produced by my office or reviewed by us and you can count on it as being accurate (unless, of course, it is April Fool's Day).

In forming this relationship I stressed to Larry that I wanted to keep Horsepower Heaven as true to its original self as possible. HH and Larry will not turn into some public relations creampuff who will sugarcoat everything just to make me happy. If you have a legitimate gripe, suggestion, or just hate everything about me and need to let me know you now have a way of sending it to me without worrying about me hunting you down. All you have to do is send it over to Larry, request that he pass it on to me, and I will work through him to make sure your concerns are addressed in an appropriate manner... he's kind of like our cybermediator.

I'm doing this entire project to develop an interactive approach among all of the racers, fans, tracks and myself so we can keep the lines of communication open even wider. I hope to provide lots of material to HH over the next few months and I encourage all of you to do the same.

Keep in mind, we have our own official website (www.nhra.com) that keeps everything up to date regarding NHRA and the seven Divisions. This particular site really belongs to no one but Larry Pfister and he has given all of us a great opportunity to work together and use it as if it were our own.

Thanks to everyone and I look forward to seeing you at the races.

Sincerely,
Chris Blair, Division 6 Director

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -April 7, 1999

HORSEPOWER HEAVEN VIDEO SERVICES now available at major Div. 6 events

Beginning at the NHRA Div. 6 Federal-Mogul event in Boise Idaho April 15/16/17, an all new video service will be introduced to Northwest racers. For the first time ever, a video of all your runs from the weekend can be done in a no-fuss way. Professionally shot and edited, complete with perfect slow motion, by Larry Pfister, a VHS tape (SVHS avail.) of your runs will be completed and mailed to you within days of the race.

We have done this for many years at Mission and the response was wonderful. For some it proved to be a fine souvenir of the event while for many more it became the cheapest tune-up they ever had. The slow motion showed racers more about the first 60 ft. of their runs than anything they had ever used...including teams who shoot their own video of each run. Other uses for such a tape include a video diary of your season or promotional venues such as sponsorship proposals. It's amazing how a couple of videos sent to present and potential sponsors each season often gives you the advantage over your competition in the war for sponsorship cash.

It's a way you can help support this website, and at just $50 Cdn. per race ($35 U.S.) may well be the cheapest way to go quicker, become more consistent and keep those sponsors informed, entertained and happy with your efforts!

We can also provide complete video press-kits and sponsorship proposals. It's a Horsepower Heaven exclusive, and it's first-come-first-serve, so email me now if you want in or have any questions. FYI: the number of cars that can be videotaped at an event is limited, and sponsorship type projects require minimum two race timeframe to be completed. Larry Pfister

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -April 7, 1999

HORSEPOWER HEAVEN RACE COVERAGE SPONSORSHIPS now available for major Div. 6 events

Become a 'Race' sponsor online and on video!

For the first time ever, Horsepower Heaven is attempting to attend all major NHRA Div. 6 events in 1999. In an effort to pay for traveling costs and the ever-increasing price that maintaining this website puts on me, I have come up with a sponsorship plan that offers a small company some bigtime webspace and video air-time for a relatively small fee. The service is as follows:

Per event-

  • A banner-type ad (linked if you have a site) at the top of every page in the coverage. Most events will have approx. ten pages that will remain online for the life of this site. Very soon, HH will feature pre-event pages for all these major drag racing events. As you can also see there is a listing of all the events on this page as well as our most popular area of the site, the navigation page.
  • Mention in Divisional newsletter.
  • "Web coverage brought to you by"-type announcements throughout each live event.
  • Sponsorship acknowledged on HH '99 video tape.
  • Much more as the program progresses.

-so it's come to this. "Sold out to the dark side.

While it may seem like it, I don't look at it that way. If I get enough people to sponsor these trips things will happen. More than anything else, the site will get better as I will be able to afford to spend more time maintaining and updating it. That's what this is all about. I am making my most concerted effort in over a decade to get back into motorsport as a business.

This idea of a company sponsoring coverage of separate events makes so much sense to me. Much more sense than simply posting a banner ad on a particular page. With a 'sponsorship' goes a certain status, that a simple name on an ad just doesn't have. A company can target any one, or even all, of every major marketing area in the Northwest. While there will only be one sponsor per event, there is no reason why any company cannot sponsor more than one...at up to a 50% quantity discount. There's even the possibility of a track, and/or race sponsor bringing me in to use the time I'm there to begin production of a promotional video for his track or sponsor. How about a major-sponsored race team not only promoting their team, but their present sponsors as well. It may just be the one thing that clinches your renewal with them next year. Leave it to me to maybe be the first to offer a 'race sponsorship' to a RACER eh? What the heck kinda concept is that Larry?...

Don't forget every event I attend will be on the HH '99 Video, and your will company will be singled out for helping us do that event. You'll be on TV fellas.

There is not much else happening here in the area I live. This province is a financial disaster area. I see so much I can do with this site and my videos, but it won't come without assistance. Convergence of television and the computer is coming quicker than you think. Be there when it happens! Any help I get along the way will be in at the ground floor. I'm sellin' stuff nobody else has...so get some before it's all gone!

For the basic price list please email me for complete details, and if you require anything more, I'll follow it up immediately with a phone call so please remember to include your number.
