Doin' DICK at HH...Moby Dick...One of the most legendary flops of all time.Winters 1979.
Just another 'foot-to-the-floor, wheels-up-for-300ft-hit' for Bonin at 64 Flops Seattle 1970sumpthin'.
In 1977 Stan Shiroma returned to Seattle for the rained-out running of the finals for the Fallnationals title. In the only all-Chevrolet Top Fuel final in NHRA history he took the victory over a broken Rance McDaniel in the Valley Fever car. Like most nitro Chevys of the day it expired just past the lights.
Here's a very rare one for the Northwest fans. A pre-race shot of a subdued Robby Bruins on the day he won the world title after he runnered-up to Don Garlits in the last pairing of the day at the World Finals on Ontario Motor Speedway. Being at this race with Carlson, Elliott and a bunch more NW people was an experience I'll never forget...as well as being one that may never be repeated...a Div. 6 TF world champ????
My pick for the prettiest Trans-Am fuel coupe ever. Pomona Feb. '79.
Management used one of my (NOT this one) pics of Hank Johnson for the 1979 S.I.R. schedule (then put Carlson's credit on it...). Later that year the 'Gentleman' made one his last laps in the Mr Auto Nitro Monza on the same Kent, Wa quarter mile.
The name on the side says Jack Wall. No idea if that's the driver or sponsor, but it's a Chevy and it's toast. Pomona '79 again.
There was a time during the late 70s when Lombardo came to the Northwest and won so often it got boring.
A personal favorite. With Billy Williams laying down smoke just inches behind his butt, 'FLYIN' Phil Elliott shoots Les Davenport. ...an you recall that boomin' Chevy a ways back up the page? Here's Shiroma in the GOD of all Rodeck cars hammering out a burnout BIGTIME at the '79 World Finals. |
