It took me a day to warm up the ole video skills, especially at a new track with more 'press' along the guardrail than I had seen in a long, long time. It gets better, but this should suffice you for a day or two until we get the Saturday and Sunday video posted.
Friday hi-resolution RealVideo file for DSL/Cable users
Friday lo-resolution Quicktime file for 28.8/56k modem users.

Ok, it's time to start getting serious with our coverage. This morning begins a multi-day posting of just a tiny portion of the video we shot at the 2001 Goodguys March Meet. They are in two different formats as we have found no two of you out there have a preferred video format, and we simply do not have the resources to post multi format videos.
The first one is all from Thursday. It begins with our arrival (those piles of spuds were amazing) and continues into some pit action featuring everything from bracket cars to the Fuelers. In most cases narration is not really necessary, especially since we don't have names for a lot of these people anyway. It's designed to be a 'you are there' experience with no music. Enjoy...and don't forget to check out our sponsor sites to at least thank them for making this coverage possible!
Look for a number of these postings over the next few days.

As our journey comes to an end, reflection is consuming my mind. I write this on I5 one week to the hour we left.
Upon departing British Columbia we were full of anticipation, we return in absolute awe of what we have experienced. To put four people into a motorhome that was built in the 1970s, hook up a trailer containing a 1960s Double A Fuel Dragster then tow it from Vancouver to Famoso, and all return home in as good a mood as we left says something for the people who accompanied me. It also says something for nostalgia drag racing.
Somebody mentioned to me at the track that Famoso is "the world's greatest dragstrip". After this trip, and despite the many strips I have never been to, I must agree. Forty two years of history of the same nitro meet at the same track is a boast few, if any, drag strip can make.
Ten hours of video tape, over 500 still images, a pad full of notes, and a brain jammed with memories of good times and new friends will help us to produce a web report as good as anything this site has ever done. We will concentrate on the experience, not just the results. The stories we have gathered since our last update here will amaze you. I don't mean surprise you, I mean totally blow your mind. We will present proof positive that we were meant to be here. Without a shadow of a doubt we will present to you one of the all-time drag racing stories. A story that when told to a number of drag racing veterans here before we left resulted in lines like "No way"..."You gotta be kidding"...and "That's unbelievable".
What began as a road trip evolved into a spiritual experience that stands above anything else I have ever had in my drag racing life. If you never had proof that this sport can get into your soul, you will have after we tell this tale.
For tonight we'll fix up the stuff we messed up here on Friday night...uh Saturday morning, then get into daily updates for as long as it takes to complete. We know we missed some things and some people, but what we did get will hopefully make up for it.
We've wanted to do a race like this on HH for a very long time. We knew it would be fun, we had no idea it would so all consuming.

Walking alone through a deserted midway of tents about seven o'clock last night the spirit of this place hit me. A rush went from the base of my spine to the top of my head. I could feel this place....out of the gloom came John Shoemaker. Won his first race here in a nitro car. Judy joined him in a graphic description of the full pit. "They would be going in all different directions out here" He said of how they warmed the nitro cars back in the mid sixties. "Had to really watch the kids".
There will not be another same day posting here. I'm sleeping in the pits with Sibley and JR tomorrow. We'll leave after the show Sunday and be home late Tuesday. We will bring you video and more photos then.
A few notes from today:
- was a very quick program. So many nitro and alky cars going down the track hard...and clean. A testament to the teams.
- Action ended due to rain just after 5pm.
- Telus Rocks
- How many times did that Sheriff copter fly over?
- We passed their 'spot' before 9 tonight. Where dat red rig go?
Remember I cannot get email until I get home.

Welcome to our first race feature page of 2001. It's with great anticipation that we so look forward to going back to Famoso for what will be our first ever Goodguys Drag Racing Series Event. Our coverage will feature photo, video and written pieces that will be posted here as well as in the pages of an upcoming issue of Speedzone Magazine.
At this time we are currently seeking any information on high speed Internet access in the Bakersfield area, as we would LOVE to be able to post nightly videos. We will hopefully have regular access to post daily photos and articles but our number one mandate here on HH is to bring you video unlike any other website can. Even if we are unable to post video from the race, rest assured that the minute we get home the streams will begin.
We will be traveling south with a group of friends and one little piece of iron. Dave Strell has restored a late 60s vintage Romeo Palamedes AA/FD to pristine running condition. He will be seeking information on the car as it's history is a bit clouded at the moment. He has already fired the 392 on 75% and plans to do the same at Famoso...probably a few times. HH was present for the first alky fireup that we posted as a RealVideo file HERE in a 56k version and HERE in a highspeed DSL/Cable file.
We leave in about a week, so if any of you have suggestions on what you want to see please email HERE.
And for those who may not be able to figure out how to view streaming video here are a couple of shots of the car.
