Monday May 5 notes:
We did ask around the Hemi pits and that dual between Raybourn and Jenkins
is most likely the quickest and fastest side-by-side double eh
hit in history....We learned of at least three new west coast AA cars
that will be ready soon, one for an undisclosed owner/driver, Another
Cuda for Ogburn ("It's at the painter now") and a 'planet-revolving'
effort from none other than those California Car Duster DeFrank family.
Look for veteran driver Rock Houser to show at Indy in that one...it
all makes for the possibility that in 2004 they better make a bunch
more pit space available for the Hemi boyz...Yes, some are wondering
when we'll see the current record holder run again. The big Dart has
not turned a tire since setting the double A troops on ear with that
series of sixties at Montgomery in late '02. We understand there is
a baby on the way for the Barton clan which is one reason, and oh ya,
that body shop guy form West Virginia has a new Cuda almost ready...We
asked Duane Shields if they will be here next week. He shook his said
and simply said "August"...Rick Distefano had quite the weekend
as yet another chute failure in testing here (after his two trips into
the Vegas sand a month ago) had him shaking his head. "It's the
first body of it's kind" he said of the McAmis design. "This
is currently the only one out there". With the help of Danny Beaudry
at Pro Gas they fab'd some side panels for the rear wing which seemed
to cure the problem. This also after guru Les Davenport had input...That
other Calgary Pro Mod dude left here with a smile on his face too. Joe
Delehay was out for the first time with the blown Hemi combo and promises
to have much more in the package come June 21/22 at Mission when the
West Coast Pro Mods make their annual spring appearance...The ageless
battle between those Super Mod warriors Joint Ventures and Perkins was
again a sight to see here this weekend. It's always a thrill to see
Jimmy and Bruce pull in side-by-side...The behind-the-scene people were
huge this weekend...Sharon Vallance, Ken Bradley and BCCCA who feed
the team like no other track this writer has ever been and MANY thanks
to the thankless dozens who dried that surface soooo many times...Thanks
to Mike Rice whose idea to make us all hang there until late Sunday
was simply to force as few as possible to have to make the often long
haul back across the border (state or province)...An how 'bout our very
own (Sorry Woodburn, I'm taking the Division) Jon Adams who keeps us
so up-to-date with his great work on dragracecentral.com...and man,
is Louie Murray ever lookin' GOOD! An those infamous MRP/NHRA techies
who gave a number of you people something to do during all the downtime...just
joking...Seen in passing included Mrs. Nowak getting her first ever
S/ST win over my buddy Jeff Jackson in round one showing just how amazing
tuff all the super classes can be...Michael Peck in one of the Vanderwall
(for sale) dragsters lookin' real good. And that Glen Braid dude showing
off the Chubby Choppers and flaming skulled paint schemes that will
soon adorn his new piece. "It's in the chassis shop for a few last
minute touches" he told HH. "Once it's out I'll work night
and day" added crew chief Steve Horn. Hopes are for asap, but we
guess it to be about a month...We noticed upon leaving those three cars
from the Loge team under wraps and still in the pits as well the orange
D7 rides of Mr. Wann still on site. We're not sure if it was just for
over nite or the week. Regardless we thank them and all the long distance
people for helping make this event as good as it was...and guess who
the Super Comper was (pitted in Sproville) who was seen to have a set
of legit police hand-cuffs attatched to the bottom of his folding pit
table....those guys know how to party eh? And we're still recovering
from our lil test drive in that M3 last week...baaaaaad boyz!
A certain Rad Stocker dude was all smiles after a gift from 'the man
in round one. Amazing what can happen eh? The big bald local guy who
made up a bunch of stickers for an out-of-town Hemi guy and when asked
what he owed. "Thanks for cumin' to Mission". That's coo!
