Mission Raceway West Coast Pro Mods, Street Car Shootout June 25-27, 2004

[Friday June 25 1 2 3] [ Saturday June 26 1 2 3 4 5] [Sunday June 27 1 2 3]

It was a show you'll get to see in two different 2004 Horsepower Heaven videos. A door lover's deelite, we had three full days of maybe the best all-round door racing this track has ever witnessed. No one really stood out as there were so many great performances here. Maybe the hilight was a run on Sunday. Only HH has Torkelson in slomo along with a post race interview where he states it was "the wildest run I've ever been on without crashin".

Of course we have the first NW street six...plus the second as Pro Street never looked better than it did at this one. Looking back it was a magic race for truck lovers and Ford freaks. First we had the two fastest pickups in the history of the sport here as Delehay and May went for the title...which May kept...by less than 1mph. Richards' street Chevy is also the worlds quickest and fastest street legal pickup! Then there was all them Fords. Where else will you ever see two Ford powered vehicles in Pro Mod? Korecki and May provided that. An the first local street six by Dhaliwal. For lovers of Fomocos and pickups, this was as good as it gets.

And whoever dreamed up this burnout contest idea...should be congratulated, as even the Pro Mod guys got into it making for some of the best tire toasters we've seen in decades. Even Saturday night after all was said and done everybody was talking about Glen May who battled a stuck throttle into a most entertaining smokey event. One crew chief however was heard to say "That's how you crash these cars" in reference to extra long smokeys.

For now we give you many nice stills from the Lumix FZ1. A number of people commented at this race on the quality this little Panasonic pounds out week-after-week. This is the coolest still camera ever built. Without which I could never build a time capsule of our weekend at each race. Most important action shots are now all done on video, so the still stuff tends to be a lot more laid back.

I've spent a LOT of race time in the pits so far in 2004...and am loving it far more than I ever have before. In the pits this tiny camera comes alive. Trackside the only problem is it has such a deep depth of field at anything short of 2.8, but such is a small sensored digicam. I can live with it until something better comes out.
