10.7.99Dawson Creek Twin Turbo Buick BLASTS Street Legal 9.26/141.14
More on this Buick (that resulted in a flood of email from the Regal crowd) sees that the purists may be a little dissappointed. In the midst of those two big RayJays and nitrous (for the turbo lag) lines is an aluminum 400 inch CHEVROLET! The '83 Regal has been thrashed on by Dale for about eight years, but has really come together in the last three or four. With slicks (it ran on 10" street Mickeys here) the 3600 lb piece could well have dipped into the eights as Dale basically drove if off the line from a idle. Easily one of the smoothest running turbo drag cars this reporter has ever seen, Dale fabricated most everthing himself, including programming the computer. It gets about 1500 miles a year of street action in the norhtern community, and also runs at Prince George and Alberta. Dale was here with his dad Don and contrary to some announcemnets at the track was trailered down. We look forward to seeing this one again, maybe with the slicks on eh Dale!
Braid qualified first with 7.82/176.12
"I was Pissed cause I wasn't THERE!" said the driver of the green car. Murray wanted it made clear he was thrilled that a street car won a Top Comp Wally.
Murray was two at 7.87/174.52 with nobody else close. "It's very possible" says Ron Cowie, when asked if his drag strip, North Central Motorsport Park in Prince George is (or may be soon) up for sale. It was a five year plan. I rememeber he told me himself. "The place would have to be at least running itself". It has not, and five years is up. Talk to Ron you guys, he may be the end of the rainbow for this dragstrip. It would be tragic if this place lost him, as I fear the track may not survive much after him. Murray is already talking more for 2000. He kinda gets a gleam in his eye when he mentions Lee Frank's Stingray. Bet on there being a huffer atop the giant Chevrolet in the next millennium....or maybe a whole new ride. Best question to ask a BCCCA guy today was "Is this a one day race or a two day race". These guys are getting good, as they ALL had EXACTLY the same answer. "Don't go there".
BAD-Ass shoebox from Everett laid down some easy eights. Purchased from 'back east' where it ran 7.40s with a 700 incher, show-quality runner could be a conteda, as easy 8.72/176.12 showed car is very stable.
