Thanks to real people like Jim Sorenson, images that may well have sat unviewed for (more) eons are now available for all to see. At the stroke of midnight the very evening I posted a bunch of Carlson's AAFA shots from the '98 Nightfires, here comes Jimmy with not one, not two, but three extremely extreme images from the past. I have not posted them here in any particular order, but rest assured that they are ALL freebies, original 'art' that hopefully all of us who download them will treat with the respect they deserve...and I know Jim will surely send me more info on the stuff I either missed or didn't get regarding these shots.

They are interspersed with a couple of emails from Jim. They end with basically an into into about what is about the best 'real' Fuel Altered show I ever saw in person. -LP

Larry, Feel free to use the photos, they're from the collection of Bob Thompson who did all the lettering on Nanook, and the Mob cars. I checked with him about a month ago, and he has no problems with having the photos posted.

One thing about Bob, he also goes by "Big Bah". If you remember the Shop Entry columns in Hot Rod, he did the illustrations of all those little guys with the big shoes, from about 1965-1970.

Okay pal, is the secret fuel altered page the same as the one "for those who scroll"?

Went out to SIR this Labor Day weekend, (well, actually only went Monday) for their annual Nostalgia event. I'd been away from the track for so long, turns out they are running an Northwest Nostalgia Top Eliminator series up here, all front motor cars, on a 7.50 limit (chassis specs). Turns out the the fastest car of the bunch was Dick Kalivoda in that injected nitro car, 7.503. Left before the race was over, as sleep time was calling, but Kalivoda was in the final.

The restored Burkholder Bros. Fiat AA/FA made its debut and exit that weekend also. First run on Sunday was real pretty from what I was told, wheels up off the line, and a nice straight pass. But the 2nd run, the car hooked to the right and flipped 5 times. I found this out 7:15 AM Monday when I called the owner's house trying to deliver their t-shirts. By 9:15 I was at the track, and the car was pretty busted up. For sure will need a new front axle, possibly a rear axle, too. Also screwed up the injectors/blower (got ground down a bit), and busted up the body a bit, but not terribly bad. That should be one of the easiest things to fix.

Got home in time to watch the finals at Indy, though. Here's another one from the Team Thompson archives-Hyder Bros AA/FA

I zis Pomona? NOPE that be the County. My third biggest regret in life? I passed on going to OCIR for an evening test session during the Winters. It was gone a year or so later.

Thank you Jim & Big Bah. Thanks MUCH!...I have a feeling hh is gonna turn into an aafa kinda joint LP

...so how good was the grub at the famed 'Dale' deli? (The bldg in the background)

Yes, more is coming. Do you maybe think it was fate that a guy named Dave Hough secured my first ever photo pass...that story and more coming soon to Horsepower Heaven LP
