Horsepower Heaven FEEDBACKOk people, here's your chance to sound off. Unless you state in your email that you DO NOT want it (or your full identity...and/or email address) posted, or it's just plain obvious to me, it's fair game to post here. Even if you post from ANY email link to me on this site. Be aware that everyone from NHRA brass to my mother read all this on a regular basis, so be nice... NOTE: newest from top August/September 1998 Feedback page Date: Sat, 31 Oct 1998 Subject: Max's Funeral Larry, Very sad to see Max leave us...A friend to racers and all he dedicated much of the last several years to the Mission track...Early word here is that there will be a service for Max Saturday Nov 7 at the track at around 12:00, but you might want to confirm further details. Nice to see you are happy with the way things are going. I have to say I sure agreed with a lot of what you had to say re the present state of Drag Racing. Glad you've discovered the right path to happiness in the sport. Best, JC Always nice to hear from a person whom I very much respect and am proud to call a friend. I wish I could get this guy to write some stuff for HH, but know he has a very busy schedule. Anytime pal! LP Date: Sat, 31 Oct 1998 Subject: Memorial service Larry as you asked there will be a memorial service for Max Fox at Mission Raceways, Top end. On Saturday November 7 at 12:00 p.m. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome. Come out and say good by to a true friend. As you are aware Max spent every race day from the time the track opened at the top end of the track. We feel this is a fitting place to remember him. Max was a long time member of BCCCA and worked with NHRA all over the Northwest. I have to work that day, but am doing everything possible to try and make it. I urge everyone else to as well. Thanks for the information Jim. LP From: "Lyle Greenberg" I guess I'm ready to come out of the closet with my web site I've been tinkering on. Forgive the non-nostalgia of it, but I hope that everyone will be interested to learn more about me. If you look at my photo history, you'll see that I've put my front motored tendancies into action every chance I got. Web site address for Lyle Greenberg Motorsports is http://home.att.net/~lyleg/home.htm I've got links to several of our members sites including Ewald's, DRL, Gasser Madness and others. Feel free to add a return link if you think my site is worthy. Lyle I have not yet had a chance to visit, but thanks for sending me the info, I'll go there soon .LP Date: Fri, 30 Oct 1998 Subject: The real beginning Okay gang, bear with me. The "official" not to be confused with the "early/temporary" page for Evans Racing Enterprises is now up. It is just the entry page but you can see the future links to the other pages (they are not working yet). I hope to get one or two working this weekend. Guess which one will be my favorite, Larry and Bob. It is still pretty basic. Nothing like the other biggies in the northwest, Larry and Bob. But I am still a bit excited about the possibilities to actually have control of the info that will appear on it. That is if John doesn't disown me. Thanks Larry and Bob for showing me the way. You guys should do a radio morning show. Have to go now. Mom's in the hospital and John and I will be unloading the cars tomorrow to start the winter rehab program. Oh, I almost forgot. The site is located at http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/BCEvans/ Can't wait to raise some s#*t for the first time!!!!! Billy Evans Congratulations pal, if it's anything like your email efforts it should be a place not to miss! I hope mom is ok, and congrats to John for ending the season with a win As for the morning show, I have already discussed it with some people, and as fun as it would be would be waaaaay too much work, and sposorship for anything Wilson and I would do together hahahahahahaha.LP Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 From: Don Ewald Organization: http://members.tripod.com/~daboomer/diggers.html MIME-Version: 1.0 Subject: WHERE THE HELL IS MY LINK? Larry, As we speak, I'm on the phone with Jim Sorenson. He guided me to your outstanding CHRR pages. I was happy. Then I went to your links page - now I am not happy. One thing that is conspicuously missing is a link to MY site - which I might add has had a link to your site for months. So consider yourself severely slapped about the head and shoulders and I REALLY don't want to experience this degree of disappointment again. Attached is my link and banner. I expect to see it here very soon. Don Ewald http://members.tripod.com/~daboomer/diggers.html Fuel Dragsters: We Did It For Love Over 300 (and growing) pictures of fuel dragsters from 1950 to 1971. Larry - I really like your site. You've done a great job here! DE Now that my head has healed I apologize greatly for this glaring omission! The link is now up and I urge you all to travel to a land where real race cars don't turn corners and have engines in the front. Now can sombody give me Ski's URL before I end up in a hospital bed. LP Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 Subject: CHRR coverage... Pfister! You torment me! Just ekeing out enough to get me all worked up, but since I've taken the plunge into HTML, I can understand the speed at which these things come about. Just keep it up. I can hardly wait for the next edition. Oh, and did you know, I own one of Tom Fritz's paintings? "Discussions on the Variability of Greased Lightning". Shows an old Highboy on the lakes, with the driver talking to a guy on a motorcycle. All green and blue shades. Made the cover of Collectable Automobile a couple of months ago. Hangs in my living room. Doesn't match any of the furniture. But art shouldn't match. Later jim See...I'm already doing somethign different...tormenting people. My Saturday afternoon cliffhanger coverage of CHRR is about the only thing I can think of that is more fun than work. Though I wish I could have done more there, this coverage makes me wonder if I even could have. Fritz's stuff is really amazing and I envy you having an original. Reminds me that I have another artist feature that's sitting on the backburner just waiting for the right time. LP Subject: What the hell happened to you?! I guess I'll have to start watching out for pigs flying and hell freezing over. You are mellowing out! This is a joke isn't it. Honestly Larry, I hope you don't become a butt kisser. Tracks, sanctioning bodies and racers all need someone to provide constructive criticism. That's the only way things get better and keeps them from peering out of rose colored glasses. Name witheld by LP It's so cool that peoplesuch as this very high
placed person send me stuff like this. I cut back my level of constructive
critisism mainly because it's basically gotten me nowhere, lost me
a bunch of friends, and frankly has not changed a thing. Mon, 26 Oct 1998 From: Jim Sorenson Subject: You are not alone... Larry, Just read the feedback page, and want to let you know that
you and Bob are NOT the only Canadians in the HF field. Sorry. There's
Rob Potter, a drag photog from Hamiliton, Ont. and there's Frank Jonkman,
Jr. from Bradford, Ont. who's running the "Raisin' Hell" AA/FA Fiat,
formerly with the "Hot Rods from Hell" circuit. Still pretty exclusive
company, though. Later Jim I hear Bob got his already, but thanks again as hese things really are too cool! You'll have to beg Bob for a Bray shirt, and the new G3 is now here. It was a must for the upcoming video work, for as good as the PT166 was, video demands a little more. Besides my life-long lusting for Powerbook got put on hold yet again once I found out that Firewire will be built in next year. Ad to that Quicktime 4 with live webcasting capabilities far beyond anything Real and MS haveand I can read theose headlines now...Time to show some people how to really cover a drag race live on the web. LP From: "Chris Blair" SIR is race #4 as anyone with any experience in counting on their fingers will agree. Originally another race was going to go in front of Seattle but they changed their mind. Contrary to popular belief I can count to ten and walk while chewing gum. Thanks for the posting. From: "Chris Blair"Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1998 I thought I would provide you with the tentative 1999 NHRA Northwest Division Schedule for Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series events. Thanks Chris. I see that some of the races include sponors and/or titles...a good sign. I may as well state here and now that I would love to attend all of these 1999 events, but need a sponsor to do it...just one. Your company name would be front and center on every page I post (LOTS) in what I flat guarantee will be the best, NHRA Divisional internet coverage anywhere. I'll be giving lots more info later on this, but if anyone is interested now, please feel free to contact me via email. One single company helping me do this will recieve a great deal of exposure...and remember all you American business people, I charge in Canadian funds, so you instantly save 50%. First-come, first-serve. The minute we make an agreement your exposure starts, as this is not a simple 'at-the-time-of-the-event' deal. LP From: "Bill Pratt" Hi Larry. Thanks again, and keep in touch. Bill Pratt www.draglist.com You are most welcome Bill. Anybody who puts in the effort you do deserves a place on any and every list of drag links! LP From: Wrenchski@aol.com Subject: phisterfinders... HEY LP- Good ta see ya at Famoso...expected ta see another 5'-3" 130lb. cybergeek, and ya turn out ta be groundshaker size...imagine that. Hope ya picked up enough of tha nostalgia vibe ta keep yer site rockin' for a LONG time. AND, hope ya got my good side with tha camera... Grasias, Ski I've never been called a groundshaker before, but I guess I'll take that as a compliment. I got more than enuf nostalgia stuff to rock this little site for a very long time. I'm waiting for a new toy scheduled to get here any day before I start posting. Get ready for a rather intense Famoso feature. I definately got your good side...Tuttle, Sorenson & Wheeler?...I dunno. LP From: "arthur cimilluca" Subject: Back East Larry, Art
Nice to hear from some 'other' coast folk. Any flopper with injectors from a place called Colts Neck is definately welcome in HH! Good lookin piece! LP update: Larry, thanks for the kind words, I know you've been busy. Heres more Stormfront from my friend Norman Blake. Not cause he's my friend, but they don't get much better than him. Credit him with this photo. Thanks Art
Date: Thu, 22 Oct 1998 Subject: My "premie" site. Just the beginning Larry. I am embarrassed even showing it to you. You do get top billing though, Pennzoil is second. Check it out at http://www3.bc.sympatico.ca/BCEvans/ -- Comments and opinions expressed in this communication are solely the writer's. They do not reflect, in any way, the position of John Evans and Evans Racing Enterprises or their sponsors. Pretty darn decent for a first effort. Your pics are 'in the mail'. Just a reminder to all locals who have a site, I maintain links like a slug, so if you want my visitors to pump up your hit count, send me a message just like this, I'll gladly post it here, and pretty soon you'll have all kinds of people visiting your site and telling you what they think! LP Date: Thu, 22 Oct 1998 Time to put something up on the site, Larry. I mean, if you can zoom from Vegas to Bakersfield and back, you've got time for a -little- update. You surprised the heck outta me at Bakersfield, somehow I'd pictured you differently, but it was great that you made it. Hope everything lived up to the pre-race hype. Sending a shot from the RCS dinner, left to right, Bert Toulotte (Wheeler's pal), some satan-worshipping MF (T-shirt builder maybe??), Ron Penington (son of Boyd), and our pal Dave Tuttle. The guy in the white hair and glasses, Byron Stack. Later Jim
Good deal...but you all look so sober, or iz dat somber...Seriously, I must say that the Header Flame T-shirt you did was a keeper. Like many on Header Flames after CHRR are saying, these things are destined to become collectors items along the lines of any rag to ever bless the back of a true drag fan. The only ones that went to Canada were mine & Wilson's, course his is in the mail, and most surely will get confiscated at the border by some customs Nazi, that wayI can boast the only one north of the 49th. LP From: RANDY BRADFORD Subject: AA/FA I've lived in Arlington Washington for 20 years and raised my family, now it's time to go back to racing. My father and I are in the process of building a replica nostalgia AA/FA of the car we ran in 1967-1972. This car toured the U.S. and Canada with Borsch, Fitsgerld and Green during 1970 and 1971 season. Best Regards Randy Bradford
WOW! Give us more Randy! How far along is it??? Any 'in progress pics'?? Great stuff!...drool, drool!! LP From: DBruce1047@aol.com LARRY: I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO YOU HAVE, ON STRAIGHT AXLE CARS! SUCH AS- WHO OWNS THEM ANYMORE, HOW FAST DID THEY RUN, WAY BACK WHEN....................AND WHAT DO THEY RUN NOW?
How's dis?...taken on the tower side at S.I.R. in the parking lot back in the 70s. Best I can do for such a 'detailed' question. Don't know how quick it may have run, but don't think I would have been along for the ride. All straight axle cars nowadays cruise up and down the street in front of Ski's house. You'll have to ask him. LP From: gasser@awwwsome.com (Byron Stack) Larry, So it was a virus, huh? I thought those non-PC thingies didn't get those! Well, I am glad you're getting things back in shape. As BobW said, "We don't need no stinkin'...etc". Well, maybe we do. Personally, I got 7 gigs sitting there, about 3 of it nothing but jpg's , etc. I think if I lost 'em I'd just cut my throat! I've got, maybe, 1 gig backed up between tape and zip. Tell me that having HF down this week doesn't suck! CHRR - You mentioned 1 day only...Saturday? You are gonna make it to the Woolgrowers, aren't you? Hey, I may get lucky on the sleeping in the truck thing. I seem to have been offered lodgings! See ya in Bakersfield! Byron As I said on Header Flames, one of my regrets was not being able to bum a beer off you at Bakersfield. I'll be back...and pleeze back your stuff up. You can't even imagine what it's like to loose stuff until it happens to you. Trust me I speak from experience and Zips are cheap until something better comes along (can you say ORB?). It's good to see a nice couple with a pair of not bad drag cars. AAAAARRRRGGGG! Wow, good stuff Faubles! I do believe a feature is in order the next time we cross paths! I would love some more info on them and which one do you drive Debbie?...now about your hairdresser... LP
From: legg@axionet.com Larry, Keep up the good work. Pete Legg Thanks Pete. I just love those cars! I hear through the vine that a 4-speed may be in that thing soon?? Too bad about the Stocker, but that Yankee buck is killing us these days. If I hadn't booked and paid for my trip south back in April, there's no way I would be able to make it. LP From: "GARRY FAUBLE" GARRYFAUBLERACING@worldnet.att.net Subject: Top Fuel Tuesday Night Shot Larry here is a pic Rich took, cool huh! can you put on your site? Thank you: Debbie. My one big regret during the Top Fuel Tuesday
report from Medford was not being able to get a decent shot of what
was probably the best looking car there. Thanks to Debbie and Rich
here it is: Date: Sat, 03 Oct 1998 Subject: He's alive! Larry: We've been busy this week spending money and moving. Shop lease expired on October 1 and we got the last load out on October 3rd. Not bad for the national record-holding procastinator. The current shop address is a shipping container in front of my office at work. Bought it on Monday, delivered right to the dock and now it's got everything but the truck and trailer in it. Only four months until it goes on the ship to Australia. Enough blather for now, got to head out to work now; 19th consecutive graveyard shift tonight. The money's great, just hope I can live through this stretch long enough to enjoy/spend it Hope to see some more good news on HH3 soon. Remember to wash your hands and use appropriate protection at all
times. Talk about living out of a suitcase...but a container?! Don't forget to leave a spot for me to smuggle into. BTW: How long will I be couped up in that thing? LP From: "Paul Jackman" openbook@intergate.bc.ca Hi Larry This is the first opportunity I've had to review your report on the "Cruise-In". Thanks for all the coverage. I would like to make one request - could you refer to the event by its name LANGLEY GOOD TIMES CRUISE-IN. You will be please to know that at our two recent debriefing meeting we addressed the concerns that you raised and I think that you will be very pleased with the results next year. See you then. Helen Stoddart, Chair - Langley Good Times Cruise-In Nice to know that when I whine, at least some people don't take it personally and respond as nicely as Helen. Unfortunately the name fix will have to go at the end of a massive list of 'to do' things around here, but I'll get to it eventually. LP Date: Thu, 01 Oct 1998 Just thought I would let you know that we are planning to go Stock Eliminator racing in 99. We have a 5 liter Mustang stick car that we will run in N or O/S. I can't let Flodin have all the fun with electonic fuel injection. We are not sure what the funny car will be doing next year, may sell it or may park it. it is a lot of work running 190 mph even though it is exciting. Dave Wilson, Manager 'Say No To Drugs Racing' Good to hear from the 'old' Davemeister again. Going from a flopper to a stocker eh? Easier eh? I'm think a few may argue that point...John Heidea should be very interested in whatever you do as well, along with those local Firebird guys. Good luck and keep us posted Dave! LP Date: Mon, 28 Sep 1998 Subject: Your web page... Larry I would like your permission to link your web page from my own. I have created my first attempt at this and put up your site as a link but I would remove it if you wished. Take a look at my little creation and let me know... http://members.tripod.com/a_fuel_j/99.html Jerry I'm terrible at this kind of stuff. I promise I'll check out your site asap though. I have no problem with anyone linking to HH, but keeping up with all the URL changes makes it impossible for me to link to everyone else. Besides, the few links on my Links Page lead you to nearly every darn drag site you can think of, especially Pratt's List. I am alwasy happy to post links if they come in an email that I post here. LP From: "George and Karen Adams"gkadams@transport.com Larry, I talked to Mike at last years oldies race at Woodburn and he said he bought a Duster body from a guy at Coos Bay but he didn't know the history of it (hmmn..) I haven't seen him since then so it was good to see the photo. I think it should be stated that's it's not the 'Goose's old funny car and even Mike doesn't know about the body. I've bookedmarked your site and looking forward to the future posts. Sincerely, George Adams PS: great fuel altered piece! The 'on the road' stuff is a lot of fun to do, and despite the sometimes 'personal' type of stuff, most people seem to be able to relate to it and understand some of the 'insider' jokes. I'm sure we'll now here from Mike about he Duster. It's interesting how different people have different info on the same thing. As I keep saying, there is plenty more AAFA stuff coming...hang in there! LP
