Horsepower Heaven FEEDBACKOk people, here's your chance to sound off. Unless you state in your email that you DO NOT want it (or your full identity...and/or email address) posted, or it's just plain obvious to me, it's fair game to post here. Even if you post from ANY email link to me on this site. Be aware that everyone from NHRA brass to my mother read all this on a regular basis, so be nice... NOTE: newest from top For immediate release March 27, 1999 Contact Bill Pratt (www.draglist.com) Drag Racing List Online has been contacted by Mr. Roy Trask of the Nypro Corporation with a unique need. Nypro -- one of the largest injection molding firms in the world -- needs drag racing memorabilia. The owner of the firm is huge motorsports fan. As a result, he is outfitting all five of his factories with auto racing themes. The Burlington, North Carolina, factory will be designed around a drag racing theme. Nypro will completely decorate the factory with drag racing memorabilia. They need banners, posters, photos, even a funny car body to mount on a wall, a dragster to sit in the entrance, plus anything else racing fans or companies might have to sell with a drag racing theme. These are large factories and have a lot of space to cover. This is not a one-time promotion. According to Mr. Trask, "In fifty years, this will still be the Nypro North Carolina 'Drag Racing' factory." Nypro has set aside an ample budget for this undertaking and needs items immediately. Dragster, Funny Car, and Pro Stock items were mentioned, but items related to any drag racing category will be considered. Nypro is having a factory kickoff on April 7 and 8. Mr. Trask indicated it might be neat to have actual race cars on the grounds for this event. Racers whose cars and teams present a professional appearance are encouraged to contact Roy Trask at Nypro with a proposal. Mr. Trask said he would leave the company name on products so that Nypro visitors can obtain their own copies of the items. Mr. Trask also indicated that Nypro is seeking potential giveaway items for the April 7 and 8 event, so companies who make drag racing mugs, key chains, etc., are encouraged to contact Nypro immediately. With April 7 and 8 fast approaching, speed is of the essence. Any company or individual with drag racing memorabilia or other drag racing items of interest are urged to fax a list of what they have for sale, including prices, to 336-578-7006 immediately, attention Mr. Roy Trask. The address is Nypro Carolina 3, 3260 Nova Lane, Burlington, NC 27215. Bill Pratt Date: Fri, 26 Mar 1999 From: "David K. McFee" Subject: Jack Wall Hi Larry, On you Doin' Dick page, you have a picture that you weren't sure about Jack Wall on the side. As a refugee from So Cal, Jack Wall was a Chevy dealer. Regards, Dave Thanks Dave...I guess that would make it a lousy promo shot eh? LP From: "Charles Jolliff" Subject: Got video in today... Hi Larry, just got done watching the HH '98 video, enjoyed it very much. What type of camera were you using? Some of the video looked like film quality. Impressive. Chuck Thanks Chuck. One neat thing about the Canon Optura is a feature called 'Progressive Scanning'. Most other video cameras shoot in a way that interlaces the frames together for smoother motion. In ProScan mode the camera 'de-interlaces' the frames making it basically a 30 frame-per-second still camera, as each frame is separate from the rest. Not only does this make grabbing still frames much better, but it actually makes the video footage appear very much like that of film. Not exactly what Canon had in mind when they came up with it, but it certainly does make the video appear as if it was filmed no taped. And for my next video lesson...LP Date: Thu, 25 Mar 1999 Subject: web site Larry, After coming home to a crashed computer (I didn't touch it, honest!) and the last two weeks of repairing, reformatting, resinstalling, and recreating, I finally have enough programs up and running to put up the "Aussie page" on our website (www.1320racing.com). If anyone visiting your site would like to drop in and see how drag racing is down under, there are 23 images and some explanatory text. Waiting to hear about the "HUGE" insurance thing. Keep up the great work. If I recall correcly, you have a Mac dontcha Jimmy? Crashed? Nobody touched it? Man that Aussie beer must be stronger than even Wilson told me! As for you site, I unvite everone to check it out. The minute I'm done this update I'm there. LP Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999 Subject: Ray Andrews I am interested in knowing if the Ray Andrews you show in 13 from 13 page ("old Van Isle Fella") is the same Ray Andrews that is currently running legacy cars at the Jennerstown Speedway in Western Pennyslvania Speedway (see http://jennerstown.com/legacy.htm). I don't know if you have kept up with his tarvelings. The Ray at Jennerstown is seeking a sponsor and I am considering photos and links to help him out. Thank you. Bernie Malis I haven't talked to Ray in a few years, but would sort of doubt it as last I heard his Brady's Fish n Chips is still the best place to load up on that kinda stuff in Victoria BC. LP Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 Subject: With thanks Larry, thanks so much for leaving Max's link up for so long. It was much appreciated but I do agree that it is time to move on. Max will always be missed but he would agree that we must all move forward. I don''t think a day goes by that we (Bob and I) don't check out your site! Keep up the good work. And as one of the 'new' tower staff, I hope to see you at the track one of these days. Sharon Vallance Welcome Sharon. I'll make sure to stop by and say hi to you and Bob out at the track later this year. LP Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 Subject: backdoor bob.... ? Larry I can't say I know where he is today [still in Minot, ND ?] but I can tell you where he was in 1967. I took this poor excuse for a photo @ Keystone Dragways just east of Winnipeg. That's Bob hisself sitting behind the wheel of his '27 T roadster p/u.
He was a frequent visitor up here at that time. In later years Bob made a few appearances with the fuel car as well... ahh, the memories. I thoroughly enjoy your site, Larry. Please continue. If I ever figure out what I'm doing with mine, I'll be sure to add a link. Regards, Greg UPDATE: Larry Sorry for the confusion.... yes, Bob Strucksnes [note the spelling] There was always some head-scratching over that. I believe this to be the correct version. I took the liberty of borrowing this from the drag racing list: #536 [7.685 sec] [179.19 mph] Bob Strucksnes 392 Chry 23 Model T AA/A Minot ND [Before he was Back Door Bob] Just to stir things up a bit, Mr. Pratt has this time listed as being in 1973. Yes, Bob did put a huffer on the '27 T, but I have to think that'd be a bit of a scary ride. I'm thinking this elapsed time refers to his more modern Bantam altered.... just a thought. As for my site, they say timing is everything. I had that thing up to 11 megs.... trashed it all. You ever have days like that ? Thanks for your kind reply, and again... keep up the good work. Greg
Wow, cool stuff Greg! Very sorry to hear about the site problem, sounds BIG. Let us all know when it's back up eh? PS, any relation to the late Jimmy? LP From: Leftduke@aol.com Subject: Mike Sullivan Was the new style Fiat depicted in your web site actually owned by former So- cal fuel alterd racer Mike Sullivan? Good question...anybody? LP From: "Rick" Hi, My name is Rick Jones, owner and creator of Controlled Induction Software. I thought you would be interested in stopping by our new website at www.joneshp.com. We have some on-line engine simulation software that you might enjoy operating. If you like our site, we won't mind if you tell a few people. Thanks Rick Jones I thought this was a rather nice way to ask for a plug. You got it Rick, beats the hell out of the way some people do it. PS, neat site. LP Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 Subject: Max Fox link Thanks Larry! I talked with John B. last weekend and he also thought it might be time to say "Good Nite Max". Thanks again for keeping this link open all winter but we all need to move into this year. Keep up the great work Larry, this is the first place I check everyday! Ken No problem, say hi to John for me will ya? LP Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 I've been watching your site for some time now. You keep making improvements and it is becoming one of the sites I check each day. I live in Coquitlam so appreciate the local slant. Do you have any idea where to find the "1320" that is often reffered to on the Header Flames forum? Keep up the good work. Thanks Jack. Can't help you with the 1320 thing, hopefully somebody else can. LP From: "John Leitner" Would you know of any sites dedicated to Jungle Jim and Pam? Keep up the good work !!! John I didn't so I pointed Jim in the direct of Bill Pratt and the Drag Racing List, but if anyone else has any ideas...LP Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999 Hi Larry, I just happened to find that site by accident one day looking for information on the Woodburn track. We really enjoyed it. Arlene Selden Hi Arlene (wife of Track Manager Wayne). Thanks for adding the link to the HH coverage of your 1998 Top Fuel Tuesday. I hope to know soon if we can fit the trip in again for '99. LP Date: Thu, 18 Mar 1999 Subject: March Meet Let me put it this way...traffic was backed up all the way to Hwy 99 from the track on Saturday morning. Took 45 minutes to drive that 6-7 miles. It was jamming in Satuday. Not as many display cars, but the typical Goodguys show and shine crowd was there, I just didn't pay much attention to 'em, since they weren't nitro powered. And the babe, she was Miss March Meet 1977. Now she's Ms. March Meet 1999, and a lawyer to boot. Specializes in divorce work...could you tell? BTW, if you thought the CHRR was neat, you would of died at the March Meet. Gerry Steiner had so much fuel running thru his hot rod, that my eyes were bleeding. Haven't had that much fun in ages. Sonoma's the 1st thru the 3rd of May I believe....could be wrong... But the Nightfires sound like the best value for MY money. Later Jim Sorenson, Carlson and Pfister at an AA/FA night meet in Boise? Now there's a scary thought. Here are a few pics Jimmy sent.LP
The 1st Frog Nat's may well become a fixture...
Jimmy Boyd's bottom end at Famoso's top end...
That's Jim on the right. Hopefully the guy in the middle isn't married... Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 Larry, Two things; First, I have recieved quite a number of e-mails asking for a subcription, classified postings and general inquires since you posted the comments. A really big Thank You! So far support looks very good, and we are planning at least 16 pages for the next issue, due April 9. Thanks, Stephen Abbott Steve is publisher of Motorsport Marketplace, a new magazine for the Lower Mainland that features parts and stuff for sale. I look forward to the next ish. LP Date: Tue, 16 Mar 1999 LARRY GOOD TO SEE YOUR SITE AGAIN .GOOD JOB DWIGHT DEAUSY THANKS DWIGHT! LP Well, I finally finished with the latest web site update.
Among the additions are: The inside scoop on our "cinderella"
story #8 qualifying effort at the NHRA Arizona Nationals.

Next best thing is to send you all over to his place. LP Date: Fri, 12 Mar 1999 Subject: fuel altereds Hello, Jim Sorenson turned me on to your page with the fuel altereds being run at Firebird last year. I guess my question is this, is there an organization that is promoting fuel altereds? I was an avid fan of these monsters in the '60's and sure would like to follow them again. Any info will be appreciated. Regards, Dave This time I pointed Dave in the direction of Scott New and the Firebird site. No idea is there is such a group...but if so I want a shirt! LP Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 Subject: HH VIDS Hi Larry Glad to see things are working for you.Your site is amazing, and very cool.I will sell your vids in my store if you want, just let me know. I sell Dia.P/Main event pretty reg now,so should be able to move some of "THE BEST" vids for sure! Keep up the great work! Bud Bud's Auto Sense shop in Abbotsford now carries HH '98. Thanks for the support Bud! LP Date: Wed, 10 Mar 1999 From: "''Dan The Man''" Hi Larry. You did a great job on the pictures from the car show, enjoyed them very much. Just thought I would send a line to say HI and it was good to see you and the wife, talk to you soon Thanks Dan Belanger I love that email address. LP Date: Tue, 09 Mar 1999 Hi, Larry, I didn't know about your past problems with 'politics'. God only knows how many I have had over the last 37 years in this sport. I have always considered you a great supporter of the little guy, up there with Rich Carlson and the like. Your web page more than proves this. Bill Hey the Madman sent in some pics of his shop. HEY BILL, I didn't get the URL for your site. Please re-send it! LP
...just a couple of cool parts eh?...Now it's my turn Bill:
UPDATE: Hi, Larry just reading your web page, bitchin! I was however disturbed by the nut that advocates the use of nitrous in supercharged cars 7.50 and over. All I can say is that they better buy a street sweeper and a truckload of greasesweep for that track. This is guaranteed grenade, just ask Dale Armstrong or Don Prudhomme if you don't beleive me. If you have a proper tuneup there is no reason for this bandaid fix. Bill Date: Tue, 09 Mar 1999 Subject: past winners at spokane raceway park (ie. forrest leblanc) Larry, might look at posting past winners at the world finals. Say from 1995 on. In the TA/ FC and Dragster class. This is an OUT-STANDING site! Forrest LeBlanc, LeBlanc Racing A shamless plug if I ever saw one Forrest! If somebody wants to type them all out and send to me, I'll post em. Nice to hear from you. Hopefully will see you out there someplace this year! LP Date: Mon, 08 Mar 1999 Subject: Schedule for 1999 I am writing on behalf of the Shuswap Custom Cruisers, as there are quite a few of us building hot rods or cars and are looking for a listing of a schedule of events for B.C. and Northwest Washington , as well as Alberta. I had a book last year of Motorsport West which had the events, but do not know where to get one for the 1999 events. If you could be of some help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you for your time: Sherry-Anne Dodd Although I am in the beginnings of a drag race schedule, I do not plan on doing one for street events, mainly because of the massive amount of work it would be. I do know that Lee Harrison of Mission puts together just such a schedule on paper. He can be reached at 604-826-9688. That's about the best I can do at this time. If anyone is doing an online version of something like this please let me know and I will ad a link. I guess this is also a good time to plug an event sent to me by Jim Hart in Sechelt regarding the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Assc. Swap Meet Saturday April 24th at the Sechelt Airport. Jim is at 604-886-2906. LP Date: Sun, 07 Mar 1999 Thanks again for a great job Larry. Ken Bradley Right on Kenny! LP Date: Sat, 06 Mar 1999 Subject: Mystery Pics Larry; I am not sure on the car with the wine keg on the back but does come from Victoria, If you talk to some of the Quarter Benders they would know. Also if you know Eddy Eng he would know. In fact I believe he owned it for a while. In fact I ran into Eddy at the show, great to see the big guy from Victoria! As for the mystery pics on the carshow nostalgia pages, you were the only one to reply, so I guess they will have to remain mysterious...LP Date: Fri, 05 Mar 1999 Subject: More Dear Horsepowerheaven Wonderful site. Mmmm Budbabes More Budbabes Yours Truly Astral Addict Mmmmm...buy the video and watch them move... LP From: "Bob Behnke" Larry Hi sure enjoyed dinner with you today. Your coverage of the B.C. Hot Rod meeting is great... wow I'd give my left never mind for Don's 57 too cool. See ya at the show. Bob From: "Michael Ray" Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 Subject: Bad A$$ video!! Larry, Never got a chance to properly thank you for the video that you sent me Larry. I should con someone out of a t-shirt for ya this weekend. It was an XL? Right? Heading to Shreveport Friday for the NSCA season opener. I'm shooting the race for Popular Hot Rodding as well. Michael Ray Another Pfister boner...missing this reply. Sorry Mikey I owe ya.
