HH Navigation Page March 2000

03.28.00 11:00am This may well be the final update for a week or more as the house move is coming on very soon, and I do not yet have internet access sorted out. Please note that as of this Friday (March 31) to possibly the middle of next week, I probably won't be able to answer any email, or post or anything.

Four foto pages of this past weekend's action at Mission are now posted HERE

Glen Braid on recent comments by Don Murray: "If he wants to rule the street this year, he'll have to do three things: Run quicker than us. Run faster than us. And do something he hasn't been able to in the last three years, defeat us in a heads up race."

The street legal 'Door War' in western Canada is a blast as these guys continue to be the most vocal, and fun to keep track of racers in the area. The possibility of a head-to-head confrontation between Braid and Murray in Top Comp at the Boise FMDRS April14-16 is a strong possibility. HH will keep you posted as there are also a number of other racers nearly ready to hit the strip and take on the obvious leaders in the street class.

WOODBURN NEW SURFACE REPORT
Hey Larry thanks for running the letter already got a response on it hoping it turns into something. Well made the jaunt to Woodburn and must say awful suprised at how things went for being a new surface. We didn't run quite as fast as wanted due to tire shake, but hey track is smooth and clean and with some more rubber will be awsome!

SuperWebHost.Com Internet Solutions is pleased to announce a bonus posting for the Division Six Federal Mogul Pro Sportsman Motorcycle Drag Racing Series for the Year 2000. A total of $600 US is available for qualified racers.

Best Package Bonus Posting
$50 US will be awarded at each of the six races for the competitor with the best package during eliminations. A best package is simply your lowest reaction time added to your best run closest to your dial. In order to calculate this, take the difference of your reaction time and a perfect light then take the difference of your ET and your dial-in and add the two differences together.

.410 R/T less .400 = .010 plus a 9.910 ET less a 9.900 dial = .010 Best Package = .020

Championship Bonus Posting
$200 US awarded to the Div 6 Federal Mogul Pro Sportsman Motorcycle Champion.
$100 US awarded to the Div 6 Federal Mogul Pro Sportsman Motorcycle Runner-Up.

Requirements

Wallyless in Bracketdom
Hi Larry Just read your posting concerning Wally's in Division 6, I really hope you have been given bad information on this issue. I find it just a little difficult that the various drag strip operators cannot afford the additional costs incurred in purchasing Wally's for the bracket classes. I have been told by various track managers that NHRA does not want Bracket racers at there FMDRS events, and that the only reason we are there is by the insistence of the various tracks who feel that they might not get a high enough car count. Well now I don't think I am going to buy into that line of BS, as the opportunity to win a Wally is the main reason Bracket Racers are coming to FMDRS events & the drag strip operators are not that brain dead (but then again Hmmm). Then there is the story that NHRA is saying that Wally's are becoming far too common and are losing their racer's appeal. Anyone who would believe that statement definitely is not a racer. Hopefully Mr. Blair will respond with the official statement And NHRA policy ending this vicious roomer. Larry I could go on more on this issue but will wait to hear the facts first. Thanks for giving me the space to print some of my thoughts.
Bob Behnke G643 S/P

The 'official' response from Chris Blair is now on our Div. 6 page CLICK HERE . My take on this one is that it's one of those things where I can understand where each side is coming from, and have to agree partially with both. This kind of thing makes me glad I'm not the one who has to make any decisions. Though from Bob's email, I doubt we've heard the end of this yet.

Larry, With just 4 days left in our "website calendar year", it's with a lot of gratitude (and some surprise considering the poor updates from Australia over the past 4 months), I am writing to inform you that you are still the flat out, absolutely, the #1 referal agent to our site. Since last April 1 we have had 100,651 hits at www.1320racing.com and Horsepower Heaven has referred 16% or 16,104 of them!
Thank you Larry for all your hard work and the link to our site. It's your work, content, and reputation that bring people to your site, and then to ours. I have been watching the news from home on HH while down under and I guess now I'll have to round up some pictures and start preparing a massive report. Maybe I'd be better waiting until the whole thing is over seeing as how I'm so far behind now?
Thanks again, you're still the champ!

Nice to hear from our local door guy after his lengthy trip down under. The team really made a splash in Australia, so make sure you visit his site to check up on their progress. LP

03.25.00 9:00pm Let it now be official, John Evans and team have convinced me to run their website for the entire year. It's a full time, regular deal, the kind of which people like me kill for, and it's all racin! I really feel that we can make this a racer site like few others. I've known John for a long time, and that sense of history can make for a great website. Thanks to a great team, a team that includes your friend and mine (obviously...thanks Wilson) Bill. This 'vine' guy has handled this amazingly well, and I thank him for that. BTW, The Grapevine has an update that includes some of that very entertaining email he gets...

8:30pm never got a car down the track at Mission today, but managed a few images to make sure you come out tomorrow. CLICK HERE.

Rumors have been circulating that officials had placed unreasonable demands on SIR by forcing them to leave both Monday and Tuesday after the FMDRS open as rain dates. Hence a partial reason to turn down the race. HH has learned this is not true. ALL host tracks are asked to hold Monday open so that the racers left in elims won't have a costly return trip the following (or later) weekend. Tuesday had never been mentioned in any instance, therefore SIR was not asked to do anything all the other tracks have already agreed to, even the multipurpose ones.

...and in related views:

Just wanted to drop a note and hope that Jim from Screenprint sees it. There is one more track in Washington that you forgot, right in between the two you mentioned, RENEGADE RACEWAY in Yakima (I think we are still in Washington even though it is tribal land) and we still have our Federal Mogul race the last week of August. So if you want to come see a race remember its only a 2 day race (Friday and Saturday night) you are more than welcome to come over. Jeff Foster

Hello Larry, Thank you for the use of the photos. Although still under some construction, the CPSA (Canadian Pro Street Association) website is alive and well!! The URL is http://cpsa.tripod.com/index.htm and should be one of the foremost Street Legal Drag Racing sites once the final touches are done.
Bob Strain, President CPSA

Hello Larry Was wondering if I sent you all the info and a pic if you could advertise a Super Gas roadster for sale plus alot of spares? Dad was wondering if maybe you could help us sell this car on your web as it would greatly help us in our campaign this year. Whatever you can do.
Thank you Wes Garvin A.k.A the NAZTYONE
P.S . check out the front page of this issue of the Digger! Rich out did himself once again!

Wes: My recent posting of Glen Braid's truck was not something I really have the facilities to do here on any kind of regular basis. The only place I know of that does is our friends at wheel2wheel.com And yes, I hear the newest ish of ND features both you guys and Jimmy Behnke on the front. Congratulations! And BIG thanks to the best damn Division photographer there is, Rich Carlson!

BIG HH thanks to John Evans, John Towner and Chris Evens for asking us to video every run we can of them for the entire season. A couple of dozen more like that and we be set. Thanks guys, and yes, for all you others remember we can only do SO many of these and it's first come, first serve. I will have season-long packages and prices posted by Boise. Per event price is $20 for one day $30 for up to three full days. EMAIL for complete details.

Work on the HH99 drag video continues..wish I could get to all the March Meet stuff sooner...a couple of other 'features' also sit on the backburner...we move a week today...whew!...

...and last, but certainly not least, a bad bit o news for any Div 6 bracket racer who has not yet heard: The way I understand it, none of the bracket classes at Div. 6 FMDRS races in 2000 will have a 'Wally' trophy up for grabs. Now I also understand a few tracks have not given them out for a few years, but this is the first year none of the tracks will do it. I do not know the reason, but before I go on want to state that if it's simply the cost of the trophy, I'm sure this website could come up with more than enuf people who would sponsor them, starting with me. I'm certain Rich Carlson would be good for a few...so you get the picture eh. If it's another reason (and Lord knows I have heard them all on this subject), I guess that's just the way it is, but I know how much these special trophies mean to the bracket racers...and ya, I'm sure the new Summit deal may make up for it somehow, but it comes down to this: An FMDRS is the only place Joebracket can get a winner's circle picture beside the FMD, FMFC and all the other winners. It's a big deal, that to me is worthy of a Wally. Hell, the bracket guys know they are lucky to be at these races in any case. To be in one of the very few Divisions that even does (did) this is a treat. But ya know what? Wallys for bracket guys was always one of the things that gave our division that little extra, few others could boast about. Our bracket guys would be (could still be) the envy of the world if this was the last place you could come to get one in FMDRS bracket competition...think about it. Could it be a FM vs summit kind of problem?? I dunno. But I think it sucks. LP

03.21.00 10pm Our Mission Schedule Page is updated with new FMDRS June 23/24/25. Look to have schedule page become result page after each racedate. Will be THE place to go for the best MRP coverage all year long. This page is open for business. Send email for details.

12:30PM A response from the Division Director to some questions regarding Calgary and the FMDRS schedule change is now posted on the 2000 HH Div 6 Homepage. Also of interest there are some other announcements and new images...and yes this page is also under re-construction.

03.20.00 Midnight Decided to stay up late tonite. Do a few things around here.

Yes I have listened to this advice:

Larry, I'd love for you to update your site, BUT.............as you said it doesn't pay the bills, so work on the Video so I can buy one ! I hope to be racing at Mission April 1 & 2. Maybe I'll see you there. Keep up the good work! Brad Owens Bellingham Wa.

Yes. I did. Thank you Brad...and ended up redoing one of the voice overs on the Firebird FMDRS spot, and deciding it needed music behind it...So much for progress.

More neat stuff has come in here the past week than at any other seven day period before it. And one other thing. Got my first 'correct' stats recording of 2000. Wow. There's more of you out there than I thought. So I figured I had better do sumpthing around here...Am also still doing changes on the Evergreen Speedway pocket schedule...Try to make their season opener this Saturday night the 25th. The NW Tour cars are always wild first night out, and together with the wicked fast winged sprints all on the big track at night...well, very few races of any kind in the entire Northwest can compare.

March Meet. MAN, have yooawl EVER sent us some great stuff from that. Jim Sorenson is a God. I'll get to that next time...

THUNDER IN THE DESERT UPDATE
Club Drags at Eagle Motorplex, April 22 & 23.

So far we have almost 60 cars registered. There have been some questions on eligibility by some avid drag racers who don't belong to an "official" car club. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM! If you don't belong to a club, but want to take part in this annual event, we will put you into the "Eagle Motorplex Club". There will also be NO minimum number of entries per club, only a maximum of 150 cars for total entries, so don't miss out. If racers want to do only Time Only runs without actually competing, that's OK too. The ONLY stipulation is that you MUST register yourself and your car by the end of March. This way we can see how to facilitate your needs. The registration fee for the weekend is $50 Cdn or $35 US. We will have racing fuel at the track, but we will organize that aspect at the beginning of April. To register, contact Gunther Gottgetreu, at e-mail: turbo6@home.com This event is organized by the Grand National Racing Association (GNRA), and all entry fees should be sent to: GNRA 1701 - 1235 Quayside Drive, New Westminster, BC V3M 6J5 For telephone questions, phone Paul Russell at (604)882-8720 after 7pm.

An I guess that's about it.

what?

Oh THAT!

That Seattle/Mission/FMDRS thingie...

"in a couple of years Seattle will be really good track."
-Jeff Jackson, 1999 Div. 6 Super Street champion

What the heck does "by mutual agreement" mean? This deal about SIR losing the Divisional race, means that there basically are no more drag strips in Washington State...no offense to Bremerton or Spokane, but one's a bracket car track, and the other, well, how many times a year DOES Spokane run anyway?
I guess my trip to Bakersfield last weekend will be my last drag race until the Nightfire race at Boise. And by the way, Bakersfield was BITCHIN'! 28 top fuel cars made qualifying runs...I think that beats the NHRA circus by about 10 cars...Jason Howell almost took the second eight field or "Hooligan" Eliminator, but hurt the motor in the semis...he had the Tetford/McGee entry covered though...and "Wild Bill" Alexander...try for 40 years and you just might win one. He took it over Jim Murphy, and was it sweet! I'm outta here, quit breakin' stuff and get busier! LOL!

The Nat'l Open at Calgary in 96 was bigger in both car count and spectator count than any other drag race they had ever had there ever. There were no major problems, except for the fact they ran low on BEER !!!!. Had over 350 car there in 96.
-One of a few who mentioned the C word.

Larry...   Figured I should get my 2 cents in here...I had actually raced for almost 2 years before I even knew that the Div 6 race came to SIR, and even then it was not because of promotion but word of mouth. I have a great memory of heading out to it in 95 or 96 and actually just walking on in through the open gate w/o paying!...for the sole reason that there was no one to take my money. It has always amazed me how few people show up to that race, it always has been without a doubt the best event at SIR, and the stands have always been empty. If Rockstad would promote the event, people would come. SIR is the closest facility to a major city in the division, but is the only track which does not consistently pack the grandstands. In the past, he has not invested any money in the event, and as such there has been little return; in all his decision doesn't suprise me much. This is the last straw with me and SIR. I have been looking for a reason to stop giving them my money and I think this is it. I am going to go run the import event on Saturday, and unless I have the greatest damn time in my life, I doubt I will ever go back...

Here's a message HH received just before Gainsville from Mark Hentges crewman Scott Nelson

Larry, Was checking out the pictures from Mission this past weekend and had a question for you. Looking at the George Swann FED, did they put the roll cage on after he got in???? Maybe it is just the camera angle or something but boy, it does look tight. So, we will get to play at Mission twice instead of having to go to that "World Class Racing Facility" (CB's words, not mine) in Kent. Sounds good to me, other than not being able to sleep in my own bed. I expect the track and air will make up for it. We ran 5.44 at Phoenix with Mark's car, and Carlson went 5.42, how about a 5.30 from a couple of the "local" guys?
Later, Scott

That's about how HH feels as well. How can we complain that these cars get two kicks at the quickest track in the Division? In our own backyard? Yes, I feel for Alberta. Feel something needs to happen here, but I don't know what. This Canadian recalls back to a Calgary race deep in the past...
Fun place Calgary

"OK...Well to start, I'm planning on RULING the street for 2000! I think 7.50 is a big possibility with the changes I've made. I should be out testing in a couple of weeks without the bottle. Then we'll test at Ron Parr's with NOS and should be ready for the first race."

03.19.00 9:00pm Many thanks to my friends who pointed out somebody named Dennis Whittington posted a copyright pic of mine on a newsgroup. Since I don't have alt. newsgroup access (You slimeball Telus censorship Nazis!!) I will once again remind all of you that every image on this entire site is protected by worldwide copyright laws, and that I have sued in the past and received MUCHO cash, and I will in the future if I decide to.

On another rotten note, minutes after being photographed by Rich Carlson (for Super Chevy) at Bremerton today, Dave Barcelone crashed his brand new McAmis-built '63 Split Window Vette Pro Mod car. While possibly not a total, damage was extensive as he hammered the guardrail quite hard out by the transition to pavement. Dave was uninjured.

A call today from Bill Kraus of the Eagle Motorplex has him asking anyone who is going to bring something to the workbee to fax him what it is 250-453-9310.

So what should I do tomorrow people? Work on the video or update this site?

1:00pm Congrats to Mark Hentges for his runner-up finish in todays' Gatornationals in Florida, as well as Pat Austin's semi final showing.

As for the lack of stuff here lately, I will do my best to catch up on the massive amount of email that has come in on a number of items just as soon as I can. Can't pay any bills with this website, so it's gotta take a backseat to anything and everything that does. LP

03.15.00 8:30am Happy belated anniversary to Mom & Dad. Forty seven years yesterday. Love ya!

HELP WANTED: Extremely fortunate to have had Joel Gelfand send HH a number of great images from last weekend's Bakersfield March Meet. Now all we have to do is caption them, as both of us don't know who most of these racers are...GO HERE

Damn G3 has actually been running for more than an hour for the first time in weeks. Chased three corrupt Open Transport Library Extensions for days, and our hard drive problem was so embarrassing I won't even admit to it...Had some reports of not being able to access HH yesterday. Obviously been some server problems. Our people are constantly updating, and you know how much fun updates can be huh?

I am currently looking for a ride to Boise FMDRS...maybe back too, but not sure as of yet. Lemme know

03.11.00 6:30am Sorry for the lack of stuff past cpl of days, but some major computer problems now appear to be all sorted out. It got to the point yesterday where my system would not even start up, so I apologize for the many emails I failed to reply to.

First on the list of things to do is post the worst kept secret of the week:

NHRA DIVISION SIX ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE CHANGE

The NHRA Northwest Division has announced a major change in the 2000 Division 6 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series Schedule. The event originally scheduled for June 23-25 at Seattle International Raceway has been moved to Mission Raceway Park in Mission, B.C. The change was made following a mutual agreement between the management of NHRA and S.I.R. not to proceed with the plans to host a FMDRS event in 2000.

As a result of the move, Mission Raceway will now host rounds two and three of the six race NHRA Northwest Division Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series - the Lordco B.C. Nationals on May 5-7 as well as the June 23-25 event. In addition, Mission will also host the Mopac Canadian National Open in July.

Although S.I.R. elected not to retain the Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event, the facility remains an NHRA member track and will host more than 70 days of NHRA sanctioned drag racing this season. In addition, S.I.R. is home to the NHRA Winston Racing Series Prolong Super Lubricants Northwest Nationals on July 28-30.

Additional information regarding this schedule change will appear in the next issue of National Dragster as well as in the NHRA Division Six newsletter.

Sunday at Mission was a short day, as just enough rain to halt the action came at about 1pm, but not before we saw this:

Del Sangha left the bottle unhooked and still managed a wild 9.38/146.67! His goal of the eight second bracket is not all that far away.

George Swann fired his new AA/FD...thats right 85% of the good stuff. Look for him to possibly make a pass in two weeks with that steel 392...when I will be home moving...

A pair of very cool Mopars left high and dry in the staging lanes.

For MORE on this weekend's action check out our page on the Boyd's Blown Fuel Suzuki HERE

Feedback:

Hi Larry, visit your site every chance I get, ITS GREEEEEAT. Jim Mantel brought the AMX back from Edmonton two weeks ago for Cage replacment and front suspension update. He is up to his ears reinstalling wiring  etc. Engine still on stand to assemble. Old bullet let go at Medford Bracket Finals last year after 600 plus laps. Myself and the Gremlin have relocated to Kamloops. Due to new buiseness it looks like we'll see very little action. Changed oil and plugs for 2000. As for the other AMC old guy, RP?  Kathi`s Klown 3 Racing

I will attempt to get back to all the email I have missed over the past two weeks, but with the move coming forgive me if I do not...LP

03.11.00 10:45 pm Well we got it in. Not everything that we would have liked to show up did, but a couple we didn't expect more than made up for them. Look for more tomorrow if the weather holds. Driver's meeting 9:30...maybe 10. Trevor Lowe is coming back, the Boyd's blown fuel bike, and maybe the AA/FD at 2pm. Our three pages of photos start HERE.

7:30 am Skies are grey, ground a little damp, but not currently raining here in Langley. Supposed to get better in afternoon. Worth heading out there in a bit...

03.10.00 10:00 pm BREAKING NEWS Word has it that the Division Six office will make a major announcement regarding a change to the 2000 FMDRS Schedule early next week. Chris Blair has already promised that Horsepower Heaven will have the news before anyone else...even the NHRA website.

8:30 pm Hello Rich Carlson. I know you're online tonite...sitting there with a big grin on your face seeing just how cool the web can be with a DSL line. Having had ADSL for a cpl of months, the switch to cable in a few weeks will be interesting. (Due only to the fact DSL is not yet available in Walnut Grove.) Is the Rogers system down as often as they say? Does it chug along if all your neighbors have it? I guess we'll see, as high speed Internet is a definite drug. Once you've had it you can never go back.

It's simply unbelievable that here I sit the night before drag season 2000 begins. It always kinda sneaks up on me, but this year...Thanks to the amazing work of Rebecca Schaaf down at Evergreen Speedway, we did maybe the all time HH thrash. Four color poster, pocket schedule and program cover from nuthin' to printer in three days. Even got to jaw direct with Mickey Beadle. One of the most famous people in Northwest racing, Beadle is legend in his own time. It's a pleasure to work with he and Rebecca. The jobs have been with the respective printers: Ward Printing (604.683.0858) in Vancouver and my very old pals, the Flynn Boys in Victoria (Flynn Printing 250-382.9811), for long enuf for me to realize my end worked. Now these people get to set it all up their way and make it look beautiful on paper. A task I know both will do a killer job of. Mark Flynn and Lynn McBurney are real pros in that they know their jobs and can have their fine people hammer out deadline critical work...at short notice on a very consistent basis. We'll post links to all three items real soon.

A few other people I ran into last weekend at Motorsport 2000 must not go unmentioned. The first ever 'non family' member of the HH video crew. Scott Ackles is now with the B.C. Lions as Manager, Game Day Operations...In other words he's the guy who runs some half time stuff, and the pre-game 'gatherings'....hmmmm. Runs Tailgate Parties eh? They'll be having a Hot Rod night later in the season and Scott promises he'll send a bunch of info our way just as soon as the details are official. I haven't been to a Lions game since Empire Stadium. Could be a cool excuse to take in a little Canaijan Pigskin this summer...Got a website local rodders must see: www.machinesNmotion.freeservers.com It's for a show 'n shine July 8th in Penticton. The lakeside party town, that for the under thirty crowd is worth any excuse to go to. At any time. The card says family, as this really is a place where both party animals and families can coexist for short periods of time. The site also has a great page listing a number of regional rod events. HERE...Ran into some guyz from Low Rollin. Kyle, Andrew and a name I can't read. Into low bikes and artwork. Great stuff, I hope they send me some of it to post...speaking of bikes and the show, heard a young guy had his display disturbed and some stuff stolen out of it. There's assholes born every minute...

How about Tyson Cross's new Panther Machine, Lordco pavement open wheeler. Cross between what I would call a Super Modified and a Sprint Car, this thing is HOT. Saturday night March 25, Evergreen Speedway, on the big track, under the lights-Winged Sprint Cars and the season opening NASCAR Northwest Tour cars. An awesome show, but bring your woollies!!!...Ad Jan Christianson as yet another victim of the HH wait. Our video of this show is quite an historic event in Greater Vancouver Lowrider circles. No other local car has ever rocked as high as the new Chevy, and when you see those two springs whistle mere inches past both sides of the camera lens, you will play them back again and again. My Lowrider video career is officially over. Now I know why all the young video guys were at the front...

Tomorrow comes early. Don't forget what will surely be the greatest Seattle Hot Rod show in decades. Wish I was there, but Mission and backed up work is keeping me here.

Tomorrow nite. Mission stuff. Be here. LP

03.09.00 8:00 pm It's but 48 hours away guys. Mission opens this Saturday, and if ever the overused term 'BE THERE' has had true meaning, it's now.

So what the hell will show up out there this early? Sure the air will be scary, but will the surface have any heat in it...or will the prep be there to allow it.

Del's 'stang has just pulled 810 at the rear wheels...he should be there. Admitted he will go for one run without wheelie bars. Could be worth price of admission if it happens...Houneit Stays Home. Don't look for the baddest hog to be there. "Heat won't be here" said Ron at Motorsport 2000...Now. 2pm Sat or Sun...I forget, but BE THERE, as the world's newest AA/FD will come to life for the first time ever in the MRP pits...again, worth the possible cost of admission...Street guys? Sure would be cool to see Foot bring out that new Nova. Will the quick Honda guys be there? Hope so.

If you got any info on new cool stuff that will be there. TELL US!

It will be good. The first one each year here always is. It's the first day of drag racing in the millennium in this country. Be there. Just freakin' BE THERE!

LP

03.08.00 8:00 pm All my waking hours are wrapped up in continuous work on a poster, pocket schedule, and program cover for Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wa.

But I have not forgotten why many of you come here. So I had this in reserve for just such a time.

ENJOY

03.06.00 11:00 pm CHAMBERS WINS FIRST GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP Veteran custom car campaigner Murray Chambers captured his first ever top award at a show he has entered many, many times before. His 1975 'Ace Ventura' Pontiac, may not be the flashiest car on the floor, but his drive for perfection makes it one of the hardest to compete against. Murray knows this game. And he's been doing it against some of the best for a very long time. Yes, he's a local, and yes he personally knows some of the judges, but so do I and I talk to them both, and can say, IMHO it's not rigged. Sure they have made some classic boners in past years, but no more than to be expected in the weird world of 'judging'. "Murray had come to us minutes after each show ended the past two or three years" judge John Evans told me today. "He wanted to know what we found wrong with his car. He makes a list and we never see the same error twice." I guess this year he was right on as he won by a single point. Third place was on a couple more away. "It was the tightest one we have ever had between that many cars for Grand Champion" said Evans. Congratulations to Murray, he was truly thrilled to win, and it was a thrill to see him so thrilled.

The season is now officially under way. With today's 7:00 p.m. closing of the Motorsport 2000 show in Pacific Coliseum, and the opening weekend of the Mission Raceway dragstrip just six days away, it can now be said. Lets race.

As the often fragile G3 chunks through another one (we just crashed with about 30 unsaved vid caps), the fotos will now have to wait until tomorrow. We will post the special results tonite, the rest as soon as we can.

A very good three days for this website. Contracted a number of jobs, and have a bunch more in the 'let's talk' position. Announcements will be made soon. Thanks to the many people who came to our booth to talk business this weekend. It showed me more than ever that the potential to make a living at this on this level is definitely there, and this web site is why.

PEOPLE This show is about people waaaaay more than it is about vehicles, and all the other stuff. All the local hitters in motorsport are here. And this is STILL the only place it happens. Bill 'the thrill' O Kell. My old sports car buddy from Victoria. Got a chromed to the nuts MGB race car and with a nice lady. Nice to see he's doin' so well...Jess Jones. The big guy who brought in so many of the Hank Johnson fuelers. Picked up a 'Gentleman' pic from Portland in the mid 70s. Identified about a half dozen guys standing in the background included Ruth, McCulloch, Gaines, Doner, and a couple more. He was here with his lovely wife and beautiful '48 Chevy Pickup. Heard some really neat old stories, and they went home with a pile of old 'Pfister Photos' black and white 8x10s. It was so great meeting a guy I had seen for years, but never before met. Definitely one of my major hilights of the weekend...

The lowrider CARNAGE. Wildest happening inside a Vancouver car show in years. Maybe ever! From the fireball on Friday (sorry missed it, but bet somebody else has it, so send it in if ya do), to the massiveness of Christian's orange flying machine, onto this afternoon's spring explosions. This is one they'll be talking about for a loooong time...

Triple G. What can ya say? Charmed everyone this weekend, from the 'Gold Nest' in the sky (stocked with no less than ice cold Heinekens) to his surprise showing of the Boise FMDRS episode from the HH99 video (along with a one-off copy of the quickest street machines in the Northwest piece), his star glowed here this weekend. It began when he came in Thursday and handed the show a $500 Whitnaur with 2000 Grand Champion' carved into the back, and continuing with his stunning unveiling of a diamond, ruby and emerald encrusted Xmas Tree necklace that literally stooped the ladies in their tracks! Yet another in a long line of donations to DRAW, his recent sponsorship deal with a potentially HUGE dot com company may seem rather calm...

WHATS4FREE.COM

In a multi-year agreement, the Surrey racer may campaign a series of blown small block Canso street legal cars. Yes, he wants to remain with the Canadian body style, and he may kill me for saying this, but a new car is most certainly a strong possibility at this time. The details may shock you, for about all I will say is that this team is looking ahead. Looking ahead in a very big way. Looking ahead in a way few Canadian drag racers have ever had the opportunity to. Good luck to Glen Braid and team along with the great whats4free.com people. And hey, we hope to very soon be able to announce our plans with the team. It's HOT! Stay tuned.

To the entire crew at the Vancouver Motorsport Show, my companion Rich Carlson, my wife Denise (Saturday was the 16th anniversary of our meeting), and the many, many new friends we made, and old one's we continued, thank you for a wonderful way to start the season.

03.05.00 1:08 am In nine hours the doors open on the last day of Motorsport 2000. It's been quite a couple of days. Posted now on the show page is a realvideo file of Jan's Cheby going forty SEVEN inches tonite in front of a huge crowd! CLICK HERE You gotta come down here to see this thing. It IS impressive! And tomorrow it's run 'em till sumpthin breaks. The last session on Sunday always a memorable one. And so are a couple of other neat vehicles here. A few days worth of hilights starting right after the show.

03.04.00 Good turnount at the show yesterday, was so busy BSing with people at the booth we only had one chance to get away to see the lowrider show...which featured easily the wildest exhibition ever seen in this area. Once these guys get dialed in today LOOK OUT!!!

Jan Christianson's Chevy was finished just hours before the show started. Went even higher (46 inches!) than this shot shows. And yes, that right rear is off the ground too. C'mon down and see it along with all the other neat stuff today. Doors open 10am and go to 10pm.

03.03.00 Isn't it interesting how street racing sites are coming on line as fast...or maybe even faster than 'real' drag racing sites. The latest to come our way is one featuring info, forums, maps, and almost everything else you ever wanted to know about street racing in Vancouver B.C. CLICK HERE My favorite page is 'members rides'....so far it's empty. C'mon you dudes...ya got teenie gonads or what! Then again, I have no ID on who is doing the site, and it features a 'registration' process. Heck, maybe a bored RCMP member is 'playing the game'....

03.02.00 Server problems all sorted out...sorry about that.

It's car show time in Vancouver, and tonite we checked out every nook and cranny to bring you our annual Vancouver Motorsport Show Set-Up Night Foto Feature. And remember kids, Crack KILLS!
