Pat Harden (1957-2006)

It is with a very heavy heart, and great sadness that I pass along the news of my dear friend and racing team mate’s loss to his fight with cancer.

Pat passed away peacefully this morning at White Rock’s Peace Arch Hospital, with his family by his side.

I know that there are many people beside myself that Pat was a great friend to and his passing leaves a void that will be impossible to fill.

I will post further information regarding Pat’s service when they are available.

"We've been here for forty years, and we hope to be here for another forty"
Those were the words of Firebird Raceway's Scott New today after HH started hearing rumors of the Boise Idaho track being sold.

"Ya, I've heard those rumors lately myself" New told HH by phone today. "We just had our biggest Fox Hunt ever last weekend, we have a Street Machine Shoot-out this Saturday and are getting ready for the 35th anniversary of the Pepsi Nightfire Nationals in August." Needless to say the News and their race track are not going anywhere soon and after a year that saw legal problems with a 'ladies-in-free' Fox Hunt concept the popular race appears to be back for good at Firebird.

Make sure you check the track site for all kinds of cool coverage and photos. And yes, there is still a chance HHTV may make it to the 2006 Nigthfires.

Though we also heard rumors of some kind of major racing development being built in Idaho by a well known motorsport entrepreneur, HH could not confirm the rumor despite some serious investigations.

Forgot we had to buy a new hard drive and format the darn thing yesterday, so our HHTV coverage of last weekend's PSCA Summernats won't be up until tomorrow.

We're back from Vegas, and as usual have a good number of things to do. First we'll give ya a few results, some notes, then load up all our video, tweek a few still pics, and attempt to answer all our e-mail. Look for all our Vegas stuff later tomorrow.

Misc notes: Congrats to a a bunch of locals who had some great results in Edmonton. Rocky Mountain Nationals Official results, and Zone will have much more soon... Vegas was not 110 degrees....try 116!! Just amazing how they do track prep.. You rain country folks will be shocked at our coverage...thanks to all the PSCA people who once again treated us like kings...and to the staff of LVMS who did likewise as they went Blairless this weekend, the boss away on a family trip back east that will end with a visit to Indy for the GP this coming weekend...if you like bikes then MRP has some kinda weekend for you. Moto X all weekend followed by road racers the holiday Monday after the CMDRA troops invade after two big races in Edmonton which saw Houneit run in the 40s and a lot of others did very well...check the club site for all the results and comments...new strip in Osoyoos. Start with messages here and do the links for pics...a few releases below that were sent into us. PLEASE if you notice an error in them contact the SENDER not us. I don't have time to proof read all this stuff...finally they be checkin' for super cheaters in D7...link.

HHTV took some big hits while I was away, our payment plan increasing twice! We can handle it for now without having to remove any of the old files, and once the Vegas part is completed we will have our first DVD ready to order within a week or so. It'll include all the coverage to date along with a few bonus clips thrown in. More on that coming soon.

This coming weekend there's a big 16 car Top Alcohol Shootout at Medicine Hat. Go to their site for all the details.

Bremerton NHRA National Open results

Calvert Racing PSCA Summer Nationals Pro Street finale to Thornton;
Local wins go to McDaniel, Langle at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
LAS VEGAS - Although the National Weather Service recorded two consecutive 110-degree days in Las Vegas, it did little to affect the outcome of the much-anticipated Pro Street finale at the Calvert Racing PSCA Summer Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Perennial favorite Ed Thornton of Chino Hills, Calif., scored the final-round victory over Steve Paulauskis of Peoria, Ariz., with a 207-mph pass in the right lane. All winning runs in Pro Street class eliminations were in excess of 200 mph. Thornton also set top speed for the meet at 219.97 mph in his 1957 Chevrolet.

There were two local winners over the weekend: Don Langle won the Quick Street finale and Ken McDaniel won the Trophy class.

Other class winners included: Ron Weems (Outlaw Street), Chris Alston Jr. (X-Treeme Street), Matt Schmidt (Real Street), Don Bevers (Hot Street), Manuel Figueroa (True Street), Steve Short (Wild Street), Luis Ceballos (Limited Street), Daniel Shuken (10:60 Index), Mike Nordahl (Open Comp) and Kelli Cox (Bracket 1).

FASTMotorsports/Extreme Speed Wins Again in Vegas!!
Under extreme temperatures, at times approaching 116 degrees F, the FASTMotorsports/Extreme Speed Racing Team found the winners circle for the 2nd time in as many races. Earlier in the month the team was able to ride to victory admitedly on luck at the PSCA California Nationals, but this time they beat the competition fair and square.

Said team driver Ed Thornton, "It feels better to win this way instead of how we won in Fontana. A win is a win either way but somehow this means more."

After struggling with the race surface in early qualifying rounds the team placed the Extreme Speed sponsored 57 Chevy into the number 2 position with a repectable 6.76 at just 217 mph. They were outdistanced however when Steve Paulauskis and his WFO Chevy Cavalier again qualified in the number one position with a great 6.56 also at 217. That keeps the team WFO streak alive at 5 as they have been the only car running out of the number 1 slot this season!

In round one of competition Thornton used a 6.834 at 218 to take out opponent Jim Knight and in round 2 dispensed of Randy Walker with a 6.73 219 to Walker's 6.90 at 205. This set up yet another final round featuring the FASTMotorsports/Extreme Speed team against the WFO racing team with the lane choice going to WFO based on their quicker 6.65 et in their semi-final matchup with Mary Baltzell.

Team WFO, who had hurt a piston during their semi-final match, showed their determination by repairing the damage with the help of fellow racers from several teams and reporting for their final round match with Thornton.

As the two cars staged, the anticipation was building for a great race. These two cars have been the only cars to win races this season so far with 2 wins a piece. Back in April the two put on what will possibly go down as the best race of the year when the margin of victory was a narrow .001 seconds 6.513 to 6.515 the win going to Team WFO.

At the green, both drivers recorded .043 reaction times and as is typically the case, the lightweight team WFO car jumped to the lead in the first 60 feet. By 330 feet the power of the big, bad, turbocharged 57 Chevy began to kick in and Thornton drove away with the WFO car trailing heaps of smoke in futile pursuit. As Thornton passed the 1000 foot mark his engine went silent but he had built up too much of a margin and the team WFO car was not able to catch him for the win, with Thornton coasting to a 6.69 at 207 to Paulauskis losing 6.87 at 196.

"Steve, Kelly and Larry Larson pack a serious punch over there with that car," explained Thornton. "Anytime you see these two cars next to each other you can bet it will be exciting. Whether its quick, fast or sideways its always a good matchup. My guys did a great job this weekend of giving me just enough to keep going rounds. With (engine tuner) Shane in Ohio we have been struggling with all the computer stuff. He's been helping on the telephone but its not the same as when he's here in person. Doug, Derek and Tom dug deep to make this happen this weekend and I thank them. I think we hurt the motor in the final because it wont crank over but it was worth it to beat those guys again. I'd like to thank Steve from Extreme Speed, Mickey Thompson Tires, Precision Turbos, Red Line Oil Company and especially Alan Bessant at BEP Performance and Jeff Boyd at JeffCo Transmissions for the awesome support."

Mageau wins 3rd IHRA National event title in his 1957 Chevrolet Pro Nostalgia Funny Car.
Jay Mageau, of Edmonton, AB. and his Mageau Family Racing, "Prospector" 1957 Chevrolet Pro Alcohol Funny Car won over Tim Boychuck in his 1974 Vega Pro Alcohol Funny Car in the final round of eliminations at Edmonton's IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals help June 23- 25, 2006.

In front of a record crowd, 10 Cars vied for the 8 Pro Nostalgia Funny car field which features the nostalgia funny cars from the IBAA circuit. ( www.awesomeburnouts.ca) . The competition was fast and furious, but in the end Mageau took the win with a 7.572 over a 7.633 from Boychuck

The win is Mageau's third coveted IHRA Iron Man trophy , with other wins coming in 2003 and 2005 at this same event.

" We are very happy to get this win." remarked Mageau. It was special for us. We buried my Grandmother this week, and I wanted to dedicate this win to her." He continued, " .. and as always, I have to thank my crew and my partner-tuner-father Bob and our sponsors, for making this all happen."

If you've ever wondered just what the hell we're tryin to do with this HHTV thing, our newest program should answer it once-and-for-all. Just two days after the quickest and fastest Pro Mod show in west coast history the world gets to see it all for free on the Internet.

We went a little stupid on this one, creating a program six seconds short of 31 minutes, but the feeling was that this was a very special race that we had to take advantage of in an all-out effort to attract some more sponsorship. This is the business we have chosen, we want to grow, and stuff like this is the best way that will happen.

Even though our ad prices may be a little higher than what some local companies can deal with right now, our goal is the world. We know full well that HHTV can do this as well as anybody else, and we're going the full nine yards to prove it.

We've already proved it to Parkers Chrysler and with today's posting we welcome our newest sponsor AUTO MAX USA. Located in Yakima Washington, it's home to Frank and his son Curtis Tamez who wheel two of the most potent door cars on the left coast. Just this past weekend in Seattle Frank ran his first six second 200 mph pass in the new Grand Am, so we feel it very fitting that his company debuts on HHTV with some of the baddest door car coverage the web has ever known.

This coming weekend HHTV will be in Las Vegas as the PSCA troops come back for the first night race of the year. Sure, its blazin hot in the southwest in late June, but when the lights come on at the world's greatest drag strip and those wicked street machines pull under the big arch and run well past the witching hour...well you just gotta see it to believe it...and that's exactly what'll happen very soon on HHTV!

Our apologies to the many who expected some local coverage on this edition of the show, but we ran into an opportunity that may not ever come our way again. Mission amid perfect conditions and the best Pro Mods we've ever seen here. We'll be shooting all you local folks a lot more this year, so we promise we'll make up for it.

For the next couple of days we will be working on the HHTV Mission Pro Mod program and will have it posted before we leave for the PSCA Vegas race about the middle of the week. We will be announcing a new HHTV sponsor as well.

By the time we get home next week we will also have the Seattle Lucas footage in our hands so that will be delayed a week or two. Plans are to have both Seattle and Vegas coverage up before the big CMDRA race at Mission that starts June 30.

Mission photos of the weekend will posted on the MRP site next day or two as well.

WCPMA Salt Lake City Utah results
The WCPMA put on a great show for the capacity crowd in Salt Lake City at the Fuel and Fire Show Saturday night and broke Pro Mod track records in the process. With thirteen entries for an eight car field the pro mod record was reset after the first round of qualifying by Joe Delehay with a then track record 6.51 at 221.3 mph. The next round the record was again reset by Ross Hogansen who claimed the $500.00 bonus money put up by Pro Mod Source with a spectacular 6.48 et which stood up as the number one qualifier. Delehay was not able to make the call on the 2nd and final round due to a broken clutch finger.

The first round of eliminations saw the number #1 and number#2 cars of Ross Hogansen and Joe Delehay both loose, Delehay with transmission problems after his burnout and Hogansen with staging problems that led up to a slow time slip sending both number#7 (Tom Johans) and number#8 (Billy Harper) into round two. Lee Smith beat Vern Mills who was inserted as an alternate into the field as Pat Stoken was done due to parts breakage. Number six qualified car of Gary Mackey from Denver Colorado just nipped the pride of Saskatchewan Canada’s Voght Bros Nitrous Corvette in one of the closest races of the round to also move on. The semis found the two Colorado cars facing each other and Tom Johans prevailed after Gary Mackey’s car got real loose after 300 feet. The other match up saw Lee Smith on a single when Bill Harper could not make the call with his Viper entry. In the Final it was WCPMA 2005 series champion “Lee Smith” who won the pedal fest over Tom Johans who also lost traction, both cars were on and off the throttle all the way down trying to navigate the quarter mile. Smiths time of 6.91 187mph was enough to get by Johans time of 7.47 @141 mph. The next stop on the WCPMA event schedule is Medicine Hat Alberta July 22 .

IT’S ALL IN THE SUPER STOCK FAMILY AT PACIFIC RACEWAYS’ NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES EVENT

KENT, Wash. – NHRA Northwest division racers completed the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by Bret Chevrolet at Pacific Raceways, the third of six events on the division calendar.

In Comp Eliminator, Rob Harrison, North Vancouver, B.C., took his ’04 Cavalier to the winner’s circle against Post Falls, Idaho’s Dan Barton in his ’97 Achieva. The Super Stock final was a family affair as Kevin Cour of Happy Valley, Ore., scored the win in his ’02 Firebird over his brother Sean Cour of Brush Prairie, Wash., and his ’04 Cavalier. North Bend, Ore., racer Jeff Lane wheeled his ’96 Corvette to the Stock Eliminator title over Steve Hanby of Salem, Ore. Mike Henderson of Tacoma, Wash., won in Super Comp, beating Bernie Plourd, Covington, Wash., in the final, and reigning division Super Gas champ Stefan Kondolay of Sardis, B.C., joined them in the winner’s circle after taking the win over Don Anderson of Twin Falls, Idaho. The Super Street final featured Brett Oglesbee, Spokane, Wash., driving his ’75 Vega to the win over Al Hampton, Surrey, B.C., in a ’72 Duster. Top Comp competitor Todd Hoerner of Deer Park, Wash., was the winner, beating Randy Johnson, Bothell, Wash., in the final round. The Sportsman Motorcycle winner was Buff Kobs, Coeur D’lene, Wash., who took the final-round victory over Jeff Havens of Yakima, Wash.

In the finals of the Top Alcohol classes, which took place on Saturday night, Steve Federlin, Oregon City, Ore., won in Dragster and Brian Hough, Junction City, Ore., won in Funny Car.

EVANCHUK REPEATS IN FATHERS DAY CLASSIC

John Evanchuk of Edmonton successfully defended his Fathers Day Funny Car Classic title at Race City this afternoon. Evanchuk saved the best for last, running the quickest Elapsed Time of the event on his last pass of the day. The win was Evanchuk's third in his last three appearances at Race City.

Evanchuk blasted his Big Eagle Hydro-Vac Firebird down the quarter-mile drag strip in 6.338 seconds, achieving a top speed of 218.49 miles per hour. Nathan Sitko, also of Edmonton, was Evanchuk's final round opponent and made his best run of the day at 6.497 at 215.98 miles per hour.

In the popular Pro Nostalgia class, the machine with the most old-fashioned body - Eddy Plaizier's '37 Chevy coupe - took the Fathers Day crown when Sherrie Bodnarchuk of Grandora, SK red-lighted.

A crowd of almost 7,000 people attended today's event - one of the best turnouts in recent years.

Next weekend, the focus shifts to the oval track where the NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series is scheduled for 150 hard-fought laps.

FAST ACTION CONTINUES ON PACIFIC RACEWAYS’ QUARTER-MILE AT NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES

KENT, Wash. – Racing continued Saturday at Pacific Raceway’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by Bret Chevrolet. Northwest division competitors took to the quarter-mile for the second day of the three day meet. Most competitors made qualifying and time trial passes but in the Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car classes it was eliminations day. In Top Alcohol Dragster, Steve Federlin scored the win and in Top Alcohol Funny Car Brian Hough took home the trophy.

The win marked Federlin’s second final-round appearance and first trip to the winner’s circle this season. In the final, the No. 4 qualifier from Oregon City, Ore., made a 5.353-second, 264.34 mph pass to eclipse second place qualifier Garrett Bateman of Cameron Park, Calif. Bateman ran 5.605 seconds at 261.22 mph. On his march to victory, Federlin beat Brandon Johnson, Shelton, Wash., in the opening round of eliminations and in the semis he took out the No. 1 qualifier, Duane Shields of Boulder City, Nev.

Hough and Northwest Hitter, Bucky Austin, have done battle before. This time Hough, a Junction City, Ore., racer, took the hole shot victory over Austin of Fife, Wash. Hough’s 5.648-second, 255.92 mph pass was not as quick as Austin’s 5.631-seocnd, 256.36 mph run but Hough got a big jump off the starting line with a .008-second reaction time (.000 is a perfect reaction time) and never looked back. Austin was the class’ top qualifier and Hough was No. 2.

In Comp Eliminator, Gary Anderson, Tacoma, Wash., was the top qualifier and in Super Stock, Castro Valley, Calif., resident Chuck Rayburn led the pack. Tommy Gaynor, Vancouver, Wash., set the pace in Stock Eliminator and Top Comp racer Shawn Cowie, Richmond, B.C., and Sportsman Motorcycle rider Mike Scott, Bonney Lake, Wash., were tops in their classes.

Eliminations continue Sunday at Pacific Raceway. Gates open at 8 a.m. and the action on the track gets under way at 10 a.m.

SHIELDS, AUSTIN LEAD QUALIFIERS AT PACIFIC RACEWAYS’ LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES EVENT

KENT, Wash. – In the first rounds of qualifying at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by Bret Chevrolet, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Duane Shields and Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Bucky Austin took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.

Shields, of Boulder City, Nev., outran the field with a pass of 5.365 seconds at 268.28 mph. And Fife, Wash., resident Austin outpaced the field with a 5.536-second, 259.01 mph run.

Top qualifiers in other classes were Gary Anderson, Tacoma, Wash., in Comp Eliminator; Jerry Jenkins, Modesto, Calif., in Super Stock; Tommy Gaynor, Vancouver, Wash., in Stock Eliminator; Shawn Cowie, Richmond, B.C., in Top Comp; and Seattle’s Mike Hauer in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Pacific Raceways. Saturday, gates open at 8 a.m. and final qualifying and time trials begin at 10 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run all three rounds of eliminations on Saturday starting at 3 p.m. The Armageddon Eve of Destruction, a special event featuring Jet Cars and AA/Supercharged Coupes, is slated to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, gates open at 8 a.m. and eliminations resume at 10 a.m.

The Handlers' Racing Association, Inc., dba Bremerton Raceway, plan another 3-day event this weekend

The gates open Friday at 3 pm for Street Legals and a Test and Tune. Racing will begin at 4 pm. Tech cards are $25.00 for car and driver. Gate admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for active duty military and children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult.

Saturday, June 16th, we will be having a Test and Tune for all vehicles. Vehicle will be called up by brackets. We will be having a Non-Electronics Shootout and an Electronics Shootout. Northwest Drag Bike Association will be racing this weekend along with the BC Super Shifters. Car Club Challenge will be at Bremerton Raceway today also. The gates open at 8 am, racing starts at 9 am. Qualifying for Truck Town's Junior Dragster Series #5 will start at noon. Tech cards are $25.00, car and driver. Gate admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for active duty military and children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult.

Sunday the gates open at 7 am for Father's Day NW Bracket Shootout with a guaranteed payout of $8,000. As well as being a Team Bremerton points race, the winner of each bracket will receive a Wally from the rained out National Dragster Challenge. The Land of the Leaders Challenge #2 will be run simultaneously. The BC Super Shifters will join us today. Tech cards are $55.00, car and driver for Sportsman and Pro, and $25.00 for High School brackets. Super Pro fees are $65.00 for car and driver, and Motorcycle fees are $45.00 per car and driver. Gate admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for Active Duty Military and children under 12 are admitted free if they are accompanied by an adult.

Red Bull energy drink to transform The Strip at LVMS into a giant drive-in movie theater with exclusive screening June 21 during Wednesday Night Street Wars

LAS VEGAS – Energy drink manufacturer Red Bull will transform the pit area of The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway into a drive-in movie theater on Wednesday, June 21, during Wednesday Night Street Wars. A special screening of "The Doctor, The Tornado & The Kentucky Kid" will be shown on a 17-foot video screen behind the main grandstand and will run in conjunction with the on-track drag racing action.

"We're thrilled to host Red Bull's special screening of this exciting film," said Chris Blair, LVMS’ senior director of drag racing operations. "Our Wednesday Night Street War program was designed to attract a broad demographic of motorsports enthusiasts and we believe this special screening will introduce The Strip to the local motorcycle community."

“The Doctor, The Tornado and The Kentucky Kid' is a feature-length documentary about the biggest weekend in American motorcycle-racing history: the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. Kentucky racer Nicky Hayden shocked the racing world with his amazing win in front of more than 150,000 motorcycle enthusiasts last year at Laguna Seca, Calif. The movie was produced by Mark Neale and is narrated by Ewan McGregor.

Fans attending Wednesday Night Street Wars on June 21 will receive free admission when spectator gates open at 5 p.m. The movie begins at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast over The Strip's p.a. system (which also may be heard on 103.9 FM). Fans will not be permitted to bring alcoholic beverages or glass bottles into the speedway.

Race entry for Wednesday Night Street Wars is only $20 and restricted-area crew passes are $10. Wednesday Night Street Wars is open to any street-legal, licensed-and-insured car, truck or motorcycle. DOT tires and mufflers are required. All cars, motorcycles and racers must meet NHRA safety specifications. Technical inspection opens at 6 p.m. with racing from 7 p.m. to midnight.

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Brenden Theatres at The Palms Casino Resort, are teaming up for a spectacular opening of Universal Picture's summer hit "The Fast and The Furious 3 - Tokyo Drift." At tonight's 12:01 a.m. opening and Friday from 6 -10 p.m., moviegoers will get the opportunity to see a special display featuring a car from the D1 Drift Grand Prix Series, a car from the NHRA Sport Compact Series and professional spokesmodels from LVMS and International All-Stars.

"The Brenden Theatres at The Palms offer the most incredible movie-going experience in Las Vegas," said Chris Blair, LVMS’ senior director of drag racing operations. "We're bringing the excitement of the racing action of Las Vegas Motor Speedway to one of America's greatest party resorts. It will be an amazing opportunity for the sport of NHRA Drag Racing and D1 Drift Grand Prix."

As part of the cross promotion with Brenden Theatres at The Palms, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway promotional team and spokesmodels will be on-hand to distribute information regarding Las Vegas Motor Speedway's racing programs as well as the upcoming Las Vegas Sport Compact Nationals. The July 15 event will feature the NHRA Sport Compact Series, Extreme Autofest and the top drift racers from Japan competing in the D1 Drift Grand Prix.

"Our promotions team had the opportunity to see a special screening of "The Fast and The Furious - Tokyo Drift" on Monday night and it is absolutely incredible, a surefire summer hit," continued Blair. "The timing is perfect with our upcoming Sport Compact Nationals and we're excited to be bringing this amazing sport to Las Vegas. The third Fast and Furious movie will do for the sport of drifting what the first Fast and Furious did for sport compact racing."

WUTTA WEEKEND!
It's no secret this weekend's Pro Mod race at Mission is a partial result of a rather 'interesting' (some may say 'entertaining') winter of discontent among the left coast ranks. While the exact explanation of all this would take more research than this writer is prepared to do, the end result of the off season 'schedule planning' is that Mission has an (for the lack of a better term) 'outlaw' race while the 'official' West Coast Pro Mod race is in Salt Lake City. From a fans point-of-view it's both a win/loose situation as those in two separate locales get great shows, but one has to wonder if this all could have come together at one place...

Since HH is a local site we have more info on the Mission race that was put together in large part by Dave and Trevor Lowe. We don't like to waste time with reasons why, but we're simply glad we get to see a good show at our home track. And what a show it should be.

With no offense to any previous racer who has ever turned a tire at MRP, or is not here this weekend, the lineup for this race is head-and-shoulders above any other Pro Mod lineup that has come before. You can go to the MRP site for a complete list of names, and Zone states even more may show, and after the performances we saw at the Lucas race...well hang on kiddies, this is gonna be sumpthin to see.

Almost lost in the background of all this Pro Mod madness are the Pro Street racers. Looking over at the TPR forum it sounds like Richards will be here with his six second pickup, you can bet that after a six second debut of the new twin turbos that Sangha will be ready, as should Rash who also ran in the sixes a couple of weeks ago. Rumor on the board is that Devier's record-holding Firebird is for sale, and the Dragin one is yet to appear with his soon-to-be turbo'd Stingray. Like usual, we won't really know who will show until the first call to the lanes...and we're not sure if they run that first session Friday nite, as they have in the past, or Saturday.

Speaking of Pro Street, in Las Vegas this weekend at the NHRA Pacific Division Sportsman and ET National Open, PSCA Pro Street and Open Comp racers will battle it out for a Wally. THE STRIPS's Chris Blair was the guy who began this back at a Bremerton National Open a few years ago, so now Div 7 joins the ranks of D6 in awarding the coveted trophy for the bad boyz n girlz of the PSCA. More Doors...
Also at MRP this weekend is a group rapidly gaining the reputation of one of the best run shows on the left coast. Last weekend at the Eagle Motorplex track manager Bill Kraus had nothing but great things to say about the Canada West Doorslammers, and we here at HH agree. Though it took a lot of work, these folks are awesome. The show they put on is second to none, the organization is excellent, and they're a bunch of nice people to boot. They will be out to prove the local doorslammers can hang in there with their Pro Mod brethren.

Meanwhile in Seattle we are very sad that we will miss the Lucas race at Pacific Raceways. With the points battles heating up, defending champ Steve Federlin leads TAD by a good margin over Brandon Johnson, Clint Thompson is out on Bucky Austin in Funny Car, Jeff Lane leads both Comp and Stock (in that bumper bashing Dr Injector Corvette!). Mike Lewis and Brad Plourd are only two points apart in Super Stock, while Mike Henderson is atop Super Comp. Shane Molinari's Poncho is one point ahead of Ferd in Super Gas, two up on Ross Childers, while Jim Boyce leads Super Street with a bunch more fairly close. Defending Division champ Mike Scott of Motorcycles Unlimited is looking very good in Sportsman Motorcycle, and Andy Morris leads in Top Comp. (D6 points)

CMDRA Race two of 2006
To top off a full weekend of action the CMDRA will be at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton. The group's first quarter mile race of the year will feature a ton of fuelers lead by ten time champ Ron Houneit, who leads in points followed by Edmonton rival Ken Kent and surprise rookie Jim Schellenberg. Look for records to fall on the always quick Edmonton surface.

On a sad note...
we learned of the passing of a northwest racer, who in his day, was among the best of the best in a class called Pro Comp. Doug Moody had been in a wheelchair since a bad accident during the NHRA World Finals at Ontario Motor Speedway in 1977. The throttle stuck on his Rentex sponsored Corvette alcohol funny car resulting in contact with the first turn wall of the big oval well beyond the end of the quarter mile. I recall that as being my only trip to the event and we had all slept in that morning. As we were packing the car, we could easily hear the cars running just a mile or so away. We all stood in a weird silence as one run seemed to go on forever. It was Moody. Originally from Edmonton Doug Moody was in charge of the Electronic Division of Edelbrock. Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. June 14 at the Edelbrock Museum in Torrence California. Thanks to Wayne King for the info. He was in the other lane that day in SoCal.

Wicked, Zoneless and other stuff
First off this morning it appears there's a problem at Speedzone that will be fixed asap.

Next up is the Wicked video that is currently in limbo. I'm going to LVMS in a couple of weeks for PSCA race so that should get my energy for this project back up. It all comes down to this silly business I'm in that constantly requires me to change course at a moments notice. At this time I do not have a completion date for Wicked or the Seattle video. Now you know why I don't like taking pre-orders. It will get done this year, that's the best I can tell you right now.

So what does it mean to be on HH? It means you get seen as this e-mail from photographer Blair Alderton explains...and it also explains why I can only do so much despite constant requests for me to post, link and more:

Speaking of Mission Lucas photos, if you ever whined about not having a photo pass cause your shots from behind the fence suck, try again, as if you have it together that should not be a problem. Proof of which is the work of photographer Paul Grant whose awesome gallery is here.

We are having a few growing pains with the new server for HHTV. There's a new Ashcroft Oldtime Drags file up that should solve some of the audio problems. A setting was off on our original file. The Firefox issue has been fixed.

FASTMotorsports/Extreme Speed Racing Team score victory at PSCA California Nationals

June 11, 2006 - Fontana, CA - Ed Thornton earned his title as driver of the FASTMotorsports/Extreme Speed racing Turbocharged 1957 Chevy Pro Streeter at the PSCA California Nationals at Autoclub Dragway at California Speedway this weekend. The Event which was billed as the first major event of the 2006 season on the newly completed dragstrip, was not one which Thornton, 39 of Chino Hills, Ca won in his usual fashion. The team struggled from the time they set foot on the property with traction on the new surface. In fact throughout eliminations, they were unable to complete a full pass because of tire spin.

"We showed up here with our head held high from the race in Vegas," explained Thornton. "But from the first test run on Friday the car did not go straight when I put it in high gear."

The team which is normally a performance front runner qualified a lackluster 6th with a best of 6.91 at just 203 miles per hour and was scratching their heads looking for what may be the cause of the ill handling car.

"I kept taking clutch out trying to soften it up but it just wouldnt go." Said Doug Stewart, 42 of Valinda, CA who is the teams clutch specialist.

After taking a lucky win in round one when Monty Berney red lit against Thornton, the team got another freebie when Art Hodges bulbed against them in the second Stanza. Because of the 10 car field, Thornton had a bye run to the final a run which for the 2nd time during the whole race, he ran the left lane.

"Everyone keeps saying the left lane is better," said Thornton, "but we won on redlights in the right lane at the old track. Its the same timing equipment so we thought we'd take a chance. We got lucky twice. But once we had a freebie, we figured we would try the left lane just to see."

The left lane was better for traction but not much as once again Thornton shut down before the finish with a 6.90 at just 198.

The final round once again saw Steve Paulaskis and his meticulously painted WFO Racing Cavalier face off against the FASTMotorsports team.

As the cars staged is was Paulaskis away first by .002 seconds and he jumped out to an early lead. At the 330 mark, Thornton began a slow drift to the left which he recovered from and caught Paulaskis by the 660 mark. From that point Thornton pulled ahead before he began drifting from side to side in his lane. Sideways with the chutes out right at the finish Thornton squeaked to victory a 6.86 at 191 to a losing 7.02 at 201.

"I dont know why we won this race today. On paper we should have been home by now but for whatever reason we got lucky on every single run today," reflected Thornton, "I cant believe we just won that race. Thanks to Extreme Speed, Red Line Oil, Ross Pistons and Precision Turbo for coming along with us for the ride. I guess sometimes it really pays off to be luckier than good," he joked.

The next event for the FASTMotorsports/Extreme Speed team will be the PSCA Calvert Racing Summer Nationals June 23-24 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

We had a terrific time at the Eagle Motorplex this past weekend. Got some great video, saw some wild runs, and got to jaw with a bunch of old buddies. The Langley Loafers BC Oldtime Drags saw as big a turnout of fans and cars as we've seen there in a very long time, and thanks to everyone who made our rather short single day visit on Saturday one that made us want to stay for Sunday. Couldn't do it due to other commitments, so for all you who maybe couldn't make it at all, or the many who for some weird reason had headaches both Saturday and Sunday, we've got a pretty cool HHTV feature now posted here....but one thing we were requested to post by a certain...well we won't say who, but rest assured there most likely will be a response to this soon:

HHTV is Back...bigger and better than before!
Amazing what you can do when you're working with good people. Between the support of our sole presenting sponsor George Evans of Parkers Chrysler and the folks at our new video host, about all I can say is we're back.

Our new host is a much larger company, and despite our substantially increased costs, we're not givin' this up without a fight. I am committed to making HHTV work, all we need are a few more sponsors to come on board. If not we will come to a point each month when some older files will have to be removed.

Though the space we require is quite low, our traffic is huge. HHTV was tuned into almost 8000 times in our first month alone...and we haven't even started to promote it seriously. And these are not 'hit's or crap stats such as those, also with our new system our demographic info will be much better than before.

And if all else fails our new host can also do pay-per-view, but relax as for now the best drag racing video anywhere remains FREE to view. Please support our sponsor, and if your company would like to be a part of this exciting new venture, please e-mail Larry Pfister any time.

So enjoy once again friends, sorry for the lil bump in the road, but when you push the envelope, sometimes you break through into unfamiliar territory.

HHTV cancelled

When our video host informed us last evening that the traffic generated by HHTV had gone beyond what they could handle, and our account would be canceled today, it wasn't a complete shock. I didn't think the traffic was that high, but I guess you get what you pay for, and to be honest, we weren't paying all that much.

I currently have inquiries out to a number of higher end video hosts that may work out, but the costs are substantially higher than what we have been paying, so I'll see what packages they come up with and make a final decision asap. There is also the pay-per-view option which we will look into.

Keep your fingers crossed folks, for I am prepared to spend more to keep this going, but if it gets into the four figure per month range, we will have no choice but to can it for good.

As of today all HHTV video files are no longer available, and the HHTV page has been removed.

I will make a further announcement asap, we've got lots of other work to keep us busy, so PLEASE hold off on any e-mails, phone calls, etc. until we know more of what we're doing. Please note this does not effect any of our other stuff here on HH or the MRP site.

Ashcroft Big Bucks Bracket Race cancelled

It took a day or two longer than planned due to some glitches we encountered when trying to bump up the quality a bit, but the HHTV coverage of the Lordco BC Nationals now has a link from the HHTV homepage. It's more polished, and longer, than anything so far, but we are still experimenting, and learning this process.

This was our first real attempt at a two camcorder shoot with Ryan Warter doing a fine job again. We tried some stuff that didn't work out, some stuff that did, but always the biggest chore is trying to keep all those "I wanna see my car on HHTV" folks happy...well sorta.

Much like the magazine business we always hear far more of what we don't put in as opposed to what we do, but please feel free to bug me anytime about getting YOU on there. I'll do my best, but if ya loose first round don't expect for us to make ya a hero!

Everybody in this gig is still learning, and that process is expected to go on for a while yet. For now we hope you enjoy what we've started here. You never know what challenges the future will bring, but hey, HHTV is happening, it's the future, and that future is now!

We've got lots on our plate here as we contemplate what the heck is going on with 'Wicked', a feature on that kick-azz trailer G&M just built us, and a whole lot more before we head up to Ashcroft for the BC Oldtime drag this weekend at Ashcroft. Oh ya....HHTV gonna give yawl a lil huff o nitro next week!

Because of a bad weather forecast for Sunday, NHRA officials have decided to try and finish the LORDCO BC NATIONALS Saturday June 3 (tomorrow). Gates still open at 7:00 a.m. with the plan to have everybody get one more qualifying run before moving into eliminations. A more detailed schedule will be announced tomorrow.

FEDERLIN, AUSTIN LEAD EARLY QUALIFYING AT MISSION RACEWAY’S LUCAS OIL SERIES EVENT

MISSION, B.C. – Competition is under way at the Lordco BC Nationals, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, where racers in eight classes took to the quarter-mile in the first day of this three-day event. In the first of two days of qualifying, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Steve Federlin took the No. 1 position and Northwest Hitter Bucky Austin set the pace in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Federlin, the reigning division champion from Oregon City, Ore., outpaced the field with a 5.379-second, 263.69 mph pass. Boulder City, Nev., resident Duane Shields sits in the No. 2 spot with a 5.398-second, 269.54 mph run. Mission residents Paul Julien and Leo Grocock are in the eight-car qualifying field in the sixth and eighth position, respectively. Bill Edwards of Sumas, Wash., finished the day as the No. 5 qualifier.

Austin, a Fife, Wash., resident, slipped into the top spot just ahead of Brian Hough of Junction City, Ore. Austin ran 5.661 seconds at 252.24 mph to Hough’s 5.669-second, 256.04 mph pass. Chilliwack’s own Tim Nemeth is currently qualified in the No. 6 place after running 6.137 seconds at 219.40 mph.

Richmond, B.C., racer Shawn Cowie leads the Top Comp field while Jirka Kaplan, Calgary, Alb., set the pace in Comp Eliminator. In Super Stock, Harry Holton, Modesto, Calif., drove his ’64 Barracuda to the No. 1 position and Joe Sorensen, Woodburn, Ore., wheeled his ’69 Camaro to the top of the Stock Eliminator field.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Mission Raceway. Gates open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials continue Saturday morning at 9. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car participants will have two qualifying run on Saturday, at noon and 3 p.m., and will run first round of eliminations at 6 p.m. With rain threatening throughout the weekend, NHRA and track officials are not taking any chances on not finishing the race and eliminations for all classes will start on Saturday and continue on Sunday.

General admission tickets for the Lordco BC Nationals are $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. A pit pass is $5 each day. Children 12 and under are admitted free. For more information, call Mission Raceway, (604) 826-6315.

Well, the time is here, it's early May, the skies are....what? No way...really?

OK, it's June, but to make all our visiting racers feel like it's mineshaft May, we decided to have the USAF up in Alaska crank up that HAARP and give us the conditions required for record setting performances....what now? Humidity is bad? Reeeeally...

OK, it's June, it's humid, it's time for the wettest...uh, biggest race of the year at MRP. The Hemis are on their way, the alky cars are cranked up and ready to roll, those hot rod Comp cars are gonna fly!...oh except for the Joint Venture guys who have a sick motor and will not be racing. We're not sure if Hall-of-Famer Jim Warter will be here anyway, but his son Ryan, GL2 in hand, will be shooting for D6 and HHTV. A guest shooter here for the first will be Blair Alderton, the Saskatoon track photographer.Check his site when you get a moment.

Over at Zone, the Murdochster is prepping a big pre-race deal, there's some stuff at mrp dot com and West Coast Hemi troublemaker Michael Ogburn is stirrin' it up over on Maries again...

Thanks to that Ogburn character we've been thrashing extra hard the past 48 hours doing up a major order of the 2005 Team Tour video...the one you can only get from them, so make sure you don't miss the only chance you'll have this year around here to snag one from their pit. And don't forget to get 'em autographed.

Seriously, thanks much to Michael for giving HH so much business. Despite his often misunderstood posts on Marie's this man is the leading figure in the ever increasing popularity of the Hemi Super Stockers. Make a point of thanking him this weekend, for without Ogburn's support this class would not be anywhere near the point it is today.

Now speaking of support, yesterday we were quite simply blown into the weeds when we picked up the HH golf cart trailer from G & M Trailers in Surrey. John Evans and his guys went so far beyond the call on this one, mere words cannot express our appreciation. The few who have seen it basically stand there and stare, as this 'utility' trailer is an absolute work of art...a thing of beauty! As we prepare to head out for a few days we hope when you're out there this weekend you stop by the Strell/Kokomotion pit for a look at this thing. An I gotta tell ya, if you're looking for a custom trailer, G&M is THE place to go. We'll post pics soon.

Finally, with the weather being what it is, and knowing these events always start super early and go very late, we do not expect to post much through the weekend. Come next week that will all change as we've increased our investment in HHTV space considerably for June and plan to have video coverage the likes of which no Divisional has ever had before. In the meantime, check Zone and Central for lots of results n more.

It's been a long, hard week friends, but it's time to do Mission. We look forward to seeing all our NHRA friends, see some great racing, and hopefully meet some of our visitors who help make this site what it is, so please if you see the HH cart or some old dude in an HH shirt, grab us and say hi. This is what it's all about folks.
