"Chances of a Goodguys Nationals coming back here again are pretty slim" we heard more than once off the record. You didn't have to look too hard to know that the dozen fuelers and five floppers were not real strong fields, but with the weather report being bad for over a week goin in, what else can one expect? Gas prices are still at or near the top of many pit conversations these days and with the majority of these racers many, many miles from home...nuff said. We could go on about how great it would have or could have been, but we'll make this short and sweet and compliment the staff of Pacific Raceways on what had to be the most grueling attempt to make a race happen that we've ever seen...and we've seen a ton of track drying over the decades. They got so close so many times. It was sheer heartbreak every time the sprayer finished and the skies opened up. The northwest was simply not the place to be this weekend as Ashcroft got some of their National Open in, but not a lot. Talk is we may get to maybe see three Opens at Mission in July. Just rumor at the moment, but the official decision will be made soon. Now we get to prep for Mission's big one. The party starts Wednesday when the rigs begin to move in, and the D6 crew does some track prep. Thursday follows with a test n tune where we expect a good number will want to see just what that new surface is like. Gonna be a looooong few days folks. We'll see ya out there eh.

to rock PR MHDRA Pres, Clint Rabb e-mailed to tell us of the ongoing track work at the Alberta facility that is slated for an NHRA National Open August 5,6. "After the 330' of concrete launch pad we have new asphalt well into the shutdown area" he told HH recently. Speaking of Nationals Opens, good luck and safe racing to everyone going to Ashcroft this weekend. Videographer Ryan Warter is on hand shooting for HHTV, and we hope to have a bunch of video highlights for ya asap. We are now ready to head south with hope of sun tans, copious amounts of cool, brown liquid, and what has all the makings of the greatest nostalgia drag race the northwest has ever seen. After the performances we saw at the Open a few weeks ago, I gotta tell ya, if the wet stuff holds off, every damn nostalgia record on the books could well be decimated at Pacific Raceway this weekend. Keep yer fingers crossed on the weather and we'll have something for HHTV real soon.

Kent, WA Nitromethane fuel, thunderous engines and ample tire smoke will fill the air at Pacific Raceways this weekend in Kent, WA as the Goodguys Vintage Drag Racing Association presents the 2nd Northwest Nostalgia Nationals a full scale vintage drag racing event featuring 300 racing entries in 14 different and unique classes. The event serves as the third stop of the four-race 2006 Goodguys West Coast Championship Points Series - the nations only points chase for vintage drag racers. With only two events remaining on the schedule, drivers will be jockeying for position, valuable points and the ultimate goal of winning a Goodguys/VRA Championship. This weekends event will be a pivotal turning point for top contenders.
In the Nostalgia Top Fuel division, a rivalry has rapidly developed between the top two drivers in points 39 year old Brett Harris of Kayesville, Utah and 35 year old Brad Thompson of Visalia, CA. The two met in a thrilling final round earlier this month at the Goodguys Nitro Nationals in Pomona with Thompson seeking his first-ever Goodguys event victory. At the Christmas tree, Thompson deep staged his dragster (pulling far inside the starting light beams to flicker them) in an effort to throw off his competition. The ploy worked as he got a two-car length advantage off the line but lost traction several times during the run, allowing Harris to sneak by for the win at 5.86 seconds at over 258mph. Past the finish line, Thompsons parachute failed to deploy and he wound up crashing into the sand trap at the far end of the dragstrip. I guess they wont play any more games on the starting line, Harris commented. Harris holds the advantage of being the quicker and faster racer. At the 1st Northwest Nationals here last year, he set the top speed of the event at 258.96mph. He also set the national speed record in Pomona which now officially stands at 260.26mph. The record holder for elapsed time is Santa Rosa, Californias Jim Murphy at 5.71 seconds. Both marks could be in jeopardy at Pacific Raceways. Local Northwest top fuel competitors include Jason Howell of Tacoma, Dale Carlson of Olympia and Phil Ruskowski, of Victoria BC.
Thirty year old Kris Krabill of Orange, California is strictly the one to beat in the Nostalgia Funny Car division. Coming off a dominating win in Pomona, his first-ever Goodguys event win, he was quick to defer the spotlight. I attribute a lot of credit for our Pomona victory to our team. Down to the last guy on the crew theyre all very professional. With Donnie Couch (who tuned top fuel dragsters for Shirley Muldowney) and sprint car legend Ray Porter calling the shots on the engine weve come up with a real nice combination. Having a car owner like Gary Turner (of GT Bicycles fame) whos been drag racing for 30-plus years helps too. Were all having a blast and cant wait to run in the Northwest, he said. Krabill will be challenged by a field of at least nine to ten other Nostalgia Funny Cars.

Goodguys will honor Northwest drag racing icon Walt Austin of Tacoma as the events official Hot Rod Hero. Austin, who raced top gas dragsters and early Funny Cars in the Northwest during the 1960s and 1970s went on to own the 4th winningest team in NHRA history when he and his son Pat competed in Top Alcohol Funny Car and Top Fuel on the NHRA circuit from 1986 through 2002. Austin and his sons Mike and Pat will be on hand along with some of Walts early dragsters which have recently been restored including a twin engine gas dragster. His original driver, Rich Rogers will make exhibition runs in the car throughout the weekend. Austin will also sign autographs for fans.
Event hours are Friday through Sunday 8am to 5pm. Professional qualifying is scheduled for Friday and Saturday with final eliminations Sunday. Opening ceremonies including a US Marine Color Guard presentation in honor of fallen war heroes will begin at 9:45am Sunday, May 28th.
General admission is $25 per day, kids 7-12 $10 and kids 6 and under are free. Adult weekend (three day) passes are $65.

Happy birthday on a big six OH to John Evans of G&M Trailers! Boise Lucas story at track site. Last Friday night's MRP street pics start here. Recycling LVMS: Everything old is new again "We have made a concerted effort to recycle as much of the old
facility as possible," said LVMS general manager Chris Powell.
"In doing so, we are being both fiscally and environmentally responsible.
In the past, we have recycled parts of the grandstands when we built
the Earnhardt and Petty Terraces, but this project is much larger than
any of those." The estimated 500,000 tons of asphalt removed from the superspeedway's
turns, back straightaway, infield and access roads will be recycled
to pave five acres of parking lots and 25 acres of campground around
the track. The infield top soil - estimated at 100,000 cubic yards - will be enhanced
with peat moss and reused in the tri-oval area and elsewhere around
the LVMS property. Even the three-lane tunnel will undergo recycling. Its corrugated steel
walls from the infield side will be moved to the entrance of the tunnel
due to the reshaping of Turns 1 and 2. "The barrier wall is moving out 200 feet, so we had a lot of extra
tunnel on the infield side that we don't need," said Devin Horihan,
LVMS director of development. "We need it on the outside of the
tunnel because we're changing the banking of the track. We took the
tunnel apart on the infield side, now we're reassembling it on the outside. "There will be 3,000 feet of wheel fence that will be reused on
the backstretch and in Turns 1 and 2. The garage doors from the pit
buildings were picked up by a local recycler. The base stone under the
asphalt on the track was recycled. It's a high-quality fractured limestone
and will be used again under the new track. When you think about it,
there really isn't that much waste." Thirty-six palm trees were removed from the tunnel entrance to the
superspeedway and will be replanted around the LVMS property. The new speedway surface, which will be banked 20 degrees in the turns
and 10 degrees on the back straightaway, will be ready for the Las Vegas
350 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event Sept. 23.
HHTV Presented by Parkers Chrysler ready to go It was a time when HH first came online, a time when the dream of taking a camcorder to a drag race and broadcasting live was one that, according to a certain webmaster, was "only a couple of years away". OK, so that plan may have been just a bit off, but today the closest thing to that decade old dream becomes a reality as Horsepower Heaven TV officially launches. Yes, this little venture has been a long time coming, and now that it's here, there have already been some 'comments' come my way. "What the hell are ya doin' now Pfister? Another one of your grand schemes..." Well, describing it like that may be fitting to some, but unlike all the rest of the schemes, this one has two things going for it. Both regarding that always tough subject called cashflow. First, it's taken many, many months to find a online system that allows HH to post video not only at a price we can afford, but in a way that most anyone with a high speed connection can view well enough to make it worthwhile. We looked at what all the other drag racing 'video' sites were doing and came up with a plan. The first thing we realized was that getting into a 'live' broadcast is not something that suites HH, and national event or pro coverage was something we have little interest in. We saw a lot of stuff we don't want to do and very little of what we do. A good sign. Though we call it 'TV', this still has a long way to go to actually be anything like that. Well, not that far, but for now the rather small screen web TV utilizes does not lend itself to expect somebody to sit there and watch for an extended period. HHTV programs will be of a length to get the story across without too much window dressing. Our package also allows us to ad content as we go and pay on a prorated basis. Though we have a 'tentative' schedule, HHTV will not be regular. Programs will be posted as they come available at a rate we can handle. Second was our choice of dealing up a sponsor-supported packages opposed to a user pay-per-view concept. Much thought was put into which way to go, and at this early stage, it appears a win-win. You the viewer win because it stays free, HH wins because the work involved for us is much less, and hopefully the sponsor wins. At this time that sole sponsor is Parkers Chrysler in beautiful downtown Penticton British Columbia. In all honesty this sponsorship came about because of a guy who has long supported racing of many kinds in this area.
'Back in the day' it was George who managed one of the neatest racing team deals to ever come out of Canada when he and brother John toured for a couple of seasons with the Super Comp car under the Loverboy banner. He later moved on to the NASCAR Northwest Tour along with famed rock manager Bruce Allen, a relationship that lasts to this day. George has been the lead man in many fund raising efforts in BC, and has received many accolades for his selfless efforts. Recently transplanted from Kamloops where he was Director New Car Dealers of BC. Director North Thompson EDAC, and President of North Thompson Relief Fund, George moved south to Penticton as General Manager/Dealer Principal of Parkers. "Working here is awesome" he told HH as the deal came together. "I want all the racers to know to contact me to buy at racer net!" Thanks to the support of George Evans and Parkers Chrysler, HHTV is off to a great start. In coming weeks we'll bring you video reports and features from a number of sources, tracks and events. Our original plan to use a separate video player window is no longer an option, as we will utilize the industry standard embedded player window. BUT...we will begin HHTV with an experiment in using a player window 50% larger than normal. We have found a way to keep the file size down, and the quality at a level we feel works better than the tiny window that shows up on today's high resolution 19 inch and up monitors, as well as the many 17 inch models still out there. Over the next few weeks we'll be not only adding to the program list but introducing you to the people who will help us make this all come together. Perkin and Hentges Winners in Boise Perkin ran 8.937 seconds at 151.71 mph in his 87 Trans Am to
defeat Jeff Lane of North Bend, Wash. Hentges found himself in the winners
circle running a pass of 7.460 seconds at 182.51 mph. Hentges defeated
Quentin Chambers of Bellingham, Wash. Super Street driver, Leon Elliot of Marysville, Wash., came away victorious
defeating Brett Waldron of Port Angeles, Wash. Elliot ran his 67
Camaro 11.212 seconds at 128.86 mph and Waldron also driving a 67
Camaro finished with a pass of 11.228 seconds at 137.50 mph. Wayne Linder Jr. of Sunnyside, Wash., was the Super Gas Winner. Linders
pass of 9.214 seconds at 169.20 mph was good enough to beat Ken Heard
from Ridgefield, Wash., who ran 10.186 seconds at 139.75 mph. Tacoma, Wash., native Mike Henderson won in Super Comp defeating Anthony
Castillo of Grandview, Wash. Henderson ran a pass of 9.214 seconds at
169.20 mph in his Dragster. In Super Stock, Mike Lewis of Bonney Lake,
Wash., made a pass of 11.305 seconds at 118.28 mph to defeat Woodburn,
Ore., native Jim Caughlin. Mary Ann Method finished the day on top in Stock Eliminator. In her
'69 Nova she defeated Jeff Lane of North Bend, Wash. The Sportsman Motorcycle category ended with Mike Scott of Bonney Lake,
Wash., taking home the prize defeating Miles Hauer of Seattle, Wash. Randy Johnson of Bothell, Wash., was the big winner in the Top Sportsman
Dart Dash with a time of 7.732 seconds at 176.71 mph. Larry Azcuenaga

Nathan made a seamless transition from the Sitko car to the Nemeth car, and with a slightly different throttle setup than before his reaction times improved greatly from the previous season. The second pass of the day was even better than the first. With a smooth "right down broadway" run they raced to their quickest ever elapsed time with a Funny Car - a 6.059 second blast at 228.13 MPH. The entire Sitko team is now in preparation for their first race of 2006 - the Lucas Oils Division 6 points race in Mission, BC, June 2,3,4. FIELD IS SET AT FIREBIRD RACEWAY Jirka Kaplan form Calgary, Alb., rose to the occasion qualifying in
the top position in Comp Eliminator ahead of Fridays top qualifier
Doug Lambeck of Irvine, Calif. Kaplan went .778 seconds under his class
index with a run of 6.972 seconds. Lambeck qualified in the second spot
in his 05 Sunfire at .708 seconds under the index with a pass
of 8.602 seconds. In Super Stock, James Weakland of Morrision, Colo., held strong qualifying
in the top spot for the second day in a row. Eric Bell from Chandler,
Ariz., qualified second at 1.48 seconds under the index with a pass
of 9.630 seconds. Harry Doolittle of Heber City, Mich., lead the way in Stock Eliminator
in his 02 Firebird while Ryan McClanahan of Alta Loma, Calif.,
qualified second also in a 02 Firebird. In the Sportsman Motorcycle category, hometown racer, Joe Collette
of Boise, Idaho took the top spot with a reaction time of .002 seconds.
Jeff Havens of Yakima, Wash., qualified just behind Collette with a

Stock Eliminator, and Shawn Cowie of Richmond, B.C., in Top Comp. The Top Sportsman Dart Dash brought out the best in both Todd Hoerner
of Deer Park, Wash., and FrankTamez of Yakima, Wash.. In the final round,
though, it was Hoerner that took home the title with a pass of 7.004

Young Guns Capture Goodguys 9th Nitro Nationals at Pomona

Pomona, CA - A full weekend of scintillating performances and cool temperatures highlighted the 9th running of the Goodguys 9th Pomona Nitro Nationals held this weekend at Pomona Raceway. Over 420 entries did battle in 14 different classes throughout the three day event. A new national top speed record was set in the Nostalgia Top Fuel division by Kayesville, Utahs Brett Harris. The second generation driver took the big red Nitro Thunder entry down the track posting two identical 260.26mph top end charges to establish a mark, previously held by his father Jack.
Sundays eliminations started off with a humorous tribute to the events Hot Rod Hero Ed Iskenderian, a founding father in the cam grinding business from nearby Gardena. Iskenderian told the crowd how he first acquired his original cam grinding machine and also shared stories of inventing silk screened tee shirts back in the late 1940s. Isky, now 85 years old was honored with a patented Goodguys Hemi Oscar for his 60 years in the hot rodding industry.
In Top Fuel action it was Harris all the way all weekend. The 39 old driver was quickest in each qualifying session Friday and Saturday and basically mowed through his competition on Sunday beating Adam Sorokin in Sundays opening round with a 5.874 @ 258mph then advanced to the final by beating Fresnos Denver Schutz in the semi-finals running a 5.883 @ 250.00
The top fuel final pitted the two quickest dragsters on the property against each other as Harris locked horns with Visalias Brad Thompson who was having his best weekend ever at a Goodguys race. At the green, Thompson appeared to have a sizeable advantage but the car lost traction and skated back and forth allowing Harris to slip by for the winning time of 5.85 @ 000. After the finish line things got really exciting for Thompson when his parachute failed to deploy sending him into the sand trap at over 100mph. His bright orange dragster barrel rolled several times but he escaped uninjured.
In Nostalgia Funny Car competition, Orange, Californias Kris Krabill, a fresh faced 30 year old rookie to the Goodguys circuit got his first-ever event win driving Gary Turners 1979 Plymouth Arrow, named the Pedaler after Turners former GT Bicycles empire. Krabill, under the guidance of veteran crew chief Donnie Couch battled Arizonas Mike Savage in the trophy dash taking the win in 6.074 seconds. His top speed was 229.78mph.
In other action it was Burlingame, Kansas racer Scott Parks taking the Junior Fuel division win over Chicos JD Zink while John Rasmussen defeated Bud Hammer in the Junior Fuel B final. Both Parks and Rasmussen are defending series champions who look poised to repeat those championship efforts this season.
In the A/Fuel division it was a Family Feud as Kin Bates Jr. of Anderson lined up for the final against his brother-in-law Claude LaVoie of Sherwood Park, Alberta Canada. At the finish stripe it was Bates who took a solo win when LaVoie broke on his burnout.
Other event winners included: Ed Moss (AA/GAS), Don Taros (Nostalgia Eliminator), Traci Sterbens (Nostalgia II), Craig Wallace (Nostalgia III), A/GAS (No champion final could not be run due to track curfew), AJ Schwitchenberg (B/GAS), Ernie McCallister (C/GAS), Ed Carey (D/GAS) and Jim Losquardo (Hot Rod Eliminator).

I never saw Jon even waiver a little bit, but what happened on Sunday morning was scary and then to come back in Top Comp and win six straight races was so cool. Thanks for having this for me to view. -WOW! This is good shit man! It's official Starting today, I officially return as Webmaster for the Mission Raceway Park website. Since January 1 a number of people have assisted in maintaining the MRP site. They did their very best, but a number of problems popped up that had me scratching my head. A short time ago I offered my services again to BCCCA, did some some background work, and today was informed I'm officially back. Obviously there is some work to do on the site, namely points and a printable schedule. Up until this time I didn't get too involved, but have set up a meeting this weekend to get things back on track asap. From here on if you have a problem with anything to do with the site e-mail me and I will answer as soon as I can, as best I can. Just always remember this track is run by a group. Instant answers simply do not always happen. That's the way it is, deal with it. I have, and both my professional relationships and friendships with officials and club members have never been better. I look forward to the challenge of making the site the best possible combination of information and entertainment. I also look forward to your input, suggestions and overall comments. I don't respond to message board rants, (in fact I rarely read them) so if you have a problem, you know who I am and how to contact me. Now before you hit that send button, realize I'm just starting today and it will take a while to sort everything out. There are new people with new ways of doing things that I have to work with. It's a team effort that will require all the assistance we can get from the fans, the racers and the sponsors. Here's to a new beginning. Let's race!
HHTV IS HERE This first 'program' features something in the style that has proven to be popular with our video clients. That means very few interviews, plenty of action, all in a package not too short, not too long. We currently have set a fifteen minute limit, but have the ability to go as long as we can afford. This video is in 'basic' quality, two steps below what is available to us...if we can afford it. Yes that would mean full screen near DVD quality. Dream on eh... Our goal is to basically bring you the best quality drag racing video action we can as often as we can. This could include basically every event we go to, from Friday night street legals to major feature races. It comes to you the viewer free, but will require sponsorship to grow, so please don't look for something like this weekly until we see if the sponsorship is there to support this. This first posting is a mere sample of what we can do. It's hosted on a dedicated video server that we hope will allow large numbers of you to view with a minimum of delay. Obviously it will require a high speed connection. We are posting videos that will play on a separate window as opposed to an embedded player such as most other sites do. We feel this gives the viewer the maximum experience by being able to increase the size of the viewing screen. No, you cannot copy this streaming video to your own computer, but you may view it anytime. The initial cost is one we can currently handle, but if we get to the point of having multiple events online, that cost will rise to the point where sponsorship will become a must for us to continue, so if you have some interest in getting involved with what we honestly feel will become one of the premiere drag racing video sites in the world today, please e-mail us now. Though we're still working on a dedicated HHTV page, press kit and sponsorship proposal package, we look forward to discussing your needs at any time. The possibilities are endless. We can go back into our extensive archive to post nostalgia videos, past feature clips...you name it. Already we have two excellent videographers in other areas of Division Six ready to go if we can give them the work. This is not simply a home track project, nor do we want to have to rely on shop tour videos or interviews to make this go. You want action, and that's what we wanna give ya! In addition we will soon offer each and every program on DVD, in both single event and multi-event packages. Another aspect of our plan that no other website currently offers, but enough of the talk... The other eagle cam It went up late last week about the same time that other B.C. 'Eaglecam' came to international prominence. We were reminded that their NHRA National Open is just over three weeks away. RJ Enterprises and VP Fuels will be in the pits for your needs April 27 & 28. Then on June 10/11 the Loafers bring their nostalgia party to the Plex where Kaiser will try to smoke the hides a full quarter mile again in Moe Davidson's black sheep nitro 426 Hemi slingshot. That alone is worth the trip from damn near anywhere. A big percentage front motored ride toastin the tires for almost 1400 feet! This year there'll be two cars side-by-side, so make your plans right now. Look for all the cool new 20th anniv souvenirs next time you're at the track too.

Don't know what, don't know when, so please don't ask....cause I don't know right now. At this time, I am totally swamped...I mean TOTALLY. Any requests coming in for anything other than feature video orders for the next few weeks will be handled...later. PHOTOS!!!!PLEASE READ AGAIN I AM NOT SELLING PHOTOS...ANY PHOTOS. They are time consuming. They make me NO money. Two things I have VERY little of right at the moment. Initial promotional costs for Hemi are now in my face....the payment from many orders are NOT.
