July 24, 2007 update: WICKED STREET OF THE WEST is now on track for a Fall 2007 release
Bayer, Hough win in Medford
EAGLE POINT, Ore. In the final results from Champion Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northwest Championship it was Thomas Bayer taking his second win of his rookie season in Top Alcohol Dragster. The California racer took the win when Joey Severance broke on the burnout giving Bayer a single run in the final. The win extended Bayers Northwest Division points lead over Severance to nearly 100 points. Klamath Falls resident Clint Thompson came into this weekends event with a 22-point lead over Hank Coolidge and 32-points ahead of defending division champion Brian Hough in Top Alcohol Funny Car. Thompson fell to Coolidge in a semi-final match up, then Coolidge, the No. 1 qualifier this weekend, lost in the final to Hough who ran a 5.942 second, 245.40 mph pass to Coolidges quicker 5.835 at 244.07. The win moves Hough into the points lead. In Comp Eliminator it was one vs.. two with the No. 2 qualifier Doug Lambeck taking the win over J.D. Zink with a 9.434 second pass. Zink gave away the win when he left early with a red-light. Alan Falcone beat out Mike Blackstone in the final of Super Stock with a lap of 9.755 seconds at 135.16 mph and Tommy Gaynor won in Stock Eliminator over Mark Faul with an 11.466, 116.60 mph run. Dave Morgan narrowly won in Top Dragster over Stan Leerkamp with a 7.245 second lap to Leerkamps 7.295. Randy Johnson held off No. 1 qualifier Kurtis Tamez in the Top Sportsman class running 7.679 seconds at 177.39 mph while Carl Hagen won over former division champion Jeff Jackson in Super Street. Hagen, last years event runner-up, ran 10.909 seconds at 148.79 mph over Jackson. Other winners this weekend included Michael Dalrymple beating Mike Henderson in Super Comp; Mike Coltrin won over Greg Zucco in Super Gas; and Leeland King took the trophy in the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley Davidson with an 8.734 second pass at 152.02 mph. Northwest Division racers head to Woodburn Dragstrip for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, July 6-8.

events on tap for this weekend Down in Medford Oregon The NHRA Division Six Lucas race is on followed by another next weekend at Woodburn. Alberta has a couple of big races including a Top Alcohol Shoot-out at Medicine Hat, while the CMDRA is in Edmonton. Way too much for this webmaster to handle, so you'll have to follow the links to see what all happens.

Bremerton NHRA National Open this weekend Saturday is the NHRA National Open Series #4. Junior Dragsters Thunder and Lightning (kids 8-17), brackets (Sportsman, High School, Pro, Motorcycle and Super Pro) and classes (Stock/Super Stock, Super Street (10.90 Index), Super Gas (9.90 Index), Super Comp (8.90 Index) and Top Comp (8.19 & quicker) will compete for the coveted Wally award. Sunday is the NHRA National Open Series #5 which is the same format as Saturday except we will add High School to the brackets. The brackets will be racing for the Team Bremerton Points with a guaranteed $3,500.00 purse. A Wally will be awarded to the winner of each bracket and class. Don't miss it! The gates open Friday at 8 am, Saturday at 8 am and Sunday at 7 am. Gate admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for active duty military and senior citizens. Rain wrecks Seattle Lucas The scheduled time to complete this event is August 25th. (Same as the Night of Fire at MRP) Gates will open at 4:00 PM, and all remaining competitors will have at least one time trial before eliminations continue. The Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car Final Rounds will be held during the NHRA National Event weekend here in Seattle July 20-22, 2007. The Sportsman Motorcycle class will finish their class at the LODRS Event in Woodburn Oregon July 5th. Sad only begins to describe it One of the first things I thought about were the many, many small town 'drag/street/airport races' that are popping up everywhere. Often on 'tracks' with questionable safety procedures. If nothing else, anyone involved with such an event should take some extra time to honestly and seriously review all safety matters for their event. What may have seemed safe last week, may not be today. Fast machines are dangerous in any situation, and one can NEVER BE TOO SAFE. Never. With cars like the one involved in this incident coming to my home strip in just two weeks it makes promotion something that must be well thought out. I do believe it's time to put to bed the long running ad headline "Pro Mod Madness". It just strikes too close too home right now and could give the mainstream media and public the wrong impression. Then again such promo may well pack the place. Such is the dilemma of how best to deal with all this. The world outside of we enthusiasts now looks at the term 'drag racing' a lot different than it did a week ago. The pros should be ok, so it could be the little events that may well bear the burden of this. Big event or small, safety has always been our number one concern. From this day forward we all must make that extra effort to ensure it is and always will be.
Happy Father's day to all the big daddies out there, especially mine! Unfortunately most of the 'drag racing' news today is of the tragedy in Memphis. I don't feel I need to go into it here. There is however other news to report. It's still wet in Seattle, I do not know if tomorrow is a rain date or some other day. Hopefully they can get er done...but there's a lot to get done and the forecast is for wet until the afternoon when it may clear...a bit. Check the Covington traffic cam for about the closest up-to-the-minute conditions you can get. Pretty wet here too as MRP has rained out yet again. Better luck for next Friday's street legal then the big Pro Mod show June 29-July 1. We'll have a video promo up this week so check it out. raining again in Seattle...Cowie did not only not qualify, but did not
get a full hit in. Doubt too many 'journalists' will venture close to
that pit and ask questions. Seattle results Note: Congratulations to Gary Howe for taking his GT/L Super Stocker to a fabulous 10.93 thus making it the first time in history a 1955 Chevy has run a ten in SS trim. HH took in Dirt Cup Thursday thanks to Chris Blair who was in town for a brief visit. We're still picking the dust out of our ears, but did manage to have the Las Vegan experience the 'true' Dirt Cup experience and take in the legendary Alger Bar & Grill before the race along with Franky Nelson Jr. and ya, the fried chicken's as good as it ever was. And ya, the BS was flying...
So as we sit here watching the Mission webcam wondering if we'll be sent home drying a second weekend in-a -row...

Loafers in Ashcroft went off Sunday without a hitch...well Ted McCallum had the misfortune of puttin his beautiful Willys onto it's side at half track and slid almost to the finish line. No word on exactly what happened, but was told it was flipped back onto it's wheels and rolled back to the pit, so hopefully just some body work. Dave Magee showed up with his totally redone huffed Valiant and made some test spurts. Ray Kirton won Doorslammer over Terry Langdon-Davies. More on Zone and the door site soon. With the trucker boys down in Tacoma coming along, and Dal Sangha ready to rock...as well as a number of others who may well step up, it's gonna get hot n heavy around here come Summer. Murray says he would love to have it ready for the big Pro Mod Street Car race at MRP Jun 3/July 1, but isn't sure he can make it. They've all got a ways to go to claim the all time title that a now retired black Firebird set at 6.58, and with some real interest being shown by some southwest runners to maybe come here some day, one can almost safely state that the northwest fast street car scene is about to be reborn very soon. Down in the southwest the fledgling West Coast Hot Rods will be in Phoenix this weekend and the PSCA don't run again until August 3 in Fontana. West Coast Pro Mods...on the road to MRP This event to be held on Saturday June 16 opens with the first of three rounds of qualifying Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm with eliminations for the eight-car field set for 6:00 pm Saturday night. This event is presented by B&J Racing Transmissions and the WCPMA has confirmed that 14 of the best Teams on the West Coast have already confirmed their attendance with more to come as teams entered this event try to qualify for the quickest eight spots. The WCPMA drivers will be available through out this event to sign autographs between qualifying sessions up to elimination time. Ever year we get to race in front of standing room only grandstands when we come to Salt Lake City and the teams want to ensure all of the fans have access to the drivers so they can get as many autographs from as many drivers as possible. WCPMA events feature an eight car qualified field set prior to eliminations, and this year with the addition of several new teams and brand new cars this event (the first on the circuit) opens up what will be one of the toughest Professional Series to compete in on the West Coast. Last year both speed (last year set by Joe Delehay) and E.T. (Last year set by Ross Hogansen) records were re set due in part to the track having a history of being prepared to National Event like standards . With the calibre of teams and fast cars competing this year, expect to see track records reset once again. Vern Mills claims, Salt Lake is a drivers race track and we intend on throwing everything we have at this track to stay on top Saturday night. Last years Salt Lake City Champion was Lee Smith from Salem Oregon. Top drivers will be focused on defeating Smith this year as Smith has been a tough competitor in years past. 11:00 p.m. Got a major thunder n lightening storm happening here. Tryin my best to get this posted before the power dies, so please excuse the spellin errors, etc... It could be considered bad taste to file away last Sunday's big written report on the Mission Lucas in favor of tonight's written report on the Ashcroft Open, but since the two tracks get along so well, and all u webaholics need info now, now, now... The MRP report is coming this week...fer shur. Tonight however, we do Eagle. After a late Friday night at the MRP Mopacs (which, like always was cool), we got up kinda early and arrived at Eagle about 1:00 p.m. Saturday for race number two of the NHRA National Open Series. Little did we know we'd get to bed oh...bout midnight. This being HH's first 'ERA' event we come home happy to announce that, despite a few glitches, Eagle is alive and well. Very well. Thanks to a lot of people we were on hand to shoot for ESPN2's NHRA Raceday...though I do admit that there may be some camera and format 'issues' once I send off the clips, but hopefully everything will go well and the 'Eagle show' will air sometime later this month. We'll let all you pirate satellite Canucks, and legal Americans know exactly when. Actually, between the fabulous MRP Lucas, the Eagle Open, and some little NHRA sales thing that happened the middle of last week, the 'N' word has been totally ga ga...freekin EVERYWHERE. Though I shared a room with D6D Jonathan Adams last night, my lips are sealed as to all the 'scoop'...well almost. I managed to wrangle a bit out of him as he was trying to go to sleep. Bottom line is, details of the sale are not out there. Anything you hear at this time must be taken with a lot of doubt. Nothing negative however. From a strictly HH seat-of-the-pants feeling on this deal...nothing...I repeat, NOTHING will surprise me, as I've had way too many 'insider' conversations the past couple of years that include everything from...nope can't go there...yet. Getting back to Ashcroft. It was hot. How hot? Try 138 track temp this afternoon...before the rains came. Ya, we got kinda rained an blown out, but all-in-all it was a good thing. Why? Read on, class-by-class. Though, be aware we don't have anything more than final round sheets to go by, so no dial-ins, no qualifying, no who-lost-in-the-semis info. Top Comp Super Pro Pro So wut the hell is next...lemme go thru all this paperwork... Sportsman...ya Sportsman. Can I go sleep now? oooookay. BIKE Ok, I'm dun...whew...deep breath. No I'm not. JUNIORRRRRRRR Super Comp Super Gas Super Street So wuts left? COMBO...how could I forget? High School So I do believe that covers it folks. Other than to give a MASSIVE thank you to the pit-hosts-with-the-mosts Ellingsens, Howes ' n Pecks..wut a super, super time at Eagle. Thanks too to da ERA...all uv em, and too many more. Not to mention all the track staff who hung in there through very, very hot conditions - WELL DONE you guys...and girls!! About an hour before the wind and rains came today it was 138 degrees on the line. Hot don't begin to describe it! It was like Vegas in July at Ashcroft in early June. And yes the river is UP...but no major worries yet. Ok, I'm done, there's WAY more coming at ya later this week on both emarepeedotcom an here...g'nite everybody.
