is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms,

Horsepower Heaven video of SCSN IV Happy Thanksgiving day everybody!
Video schedule
NEW Saturday/Sunday SCSN photos now posted. Note we have included a bunch of bracket car images as most of the pro, ten five, radial, etc we shot an video...and that's all still to come!
One of the many cool things about SCSN is because of it's sheer size, this event allows me to freely shoot both stills and video. Tonight we give you the first of two photo essays, this one of images from the Thursday test session and day one of qualifying on Friday. Though my main goal was video, getting this many chances to shoot the baddest door cars on Earth at the best place there's ever been to shoot drag racing under the lights...well here, see for yourself. DON'T
EVEN ASK OK... I'm still shaking I'm so f'ing pissed off, but will calm down by tomorrow and get back into coverage of SCSN. One advantage is that I have seen everybody else's posts, and know you'll be getting stuff here that nobody else has got (well maybe other than those who'll make ya pay for it). For now check out the Sat. posting that only made it up now. LOTS more coming at you tomorrow and beyond.

3:00 pm update Note my e-mail is acting up, can recieve but not send. 7:00 a.m. Moran's 6.15 with Major's fire beside big powerstand VIDEO Getting many hits, so if it's slow, note we're not posting in our usual manner due to time constraints, feel free to download it and post anywhere. -LP Friday page here. Not sure how often we'll update today, but will be tonight fer sure, meanwhile all the other web site people are here, so check em all out too.
10:00 a.m. Our coverage has started, come back often all day and into the night. 7:00 am Listening to the Las Vegas TV weather guys, and being from the great Northwest, one would feel a bit edgy when you hear them say "the weather is changing drastically and about to get cool and cloudy." Where I come from that means ugly, but in sin city, it means going from 78 to 71 with high clouds - that will make the backlit-hard-to-photograph LVMS STRIP a much, much better place to capture imagery. Ya, we're in Vegas, the sun is shining, the conditions about as perfect as one can ever get at this place, and the baddest door cars in the world are gathering for the biggest show the left coast has ever seen. The line up sitting at the pit gate this morning already includes a number of unexpected big time entries and the locals are all agog over Ken Tupper's twin turbo NukeNana. We actually have our web connection working well, e-mail - the works, and will be updating as often as we can so come back often. For now check this at YB and here, an we'll see ya later today with a bunch of pit shit before the evening test session from 4-9.
Special Live SCSN show on SpeedScene TV tonight at 6:00 p.m. Will SCSN be too much? While none of it will be as good as being here yourself, what these many smalltime (and big time) people behind the cameras and computers will provide is a glimpse of what we'll be seeing much more of in the future - and something we here at HH have been dreaming about for a very long time. Then again could it be too much? The one question I have, and one that I'll be reporting on, is if all these different folks will be able to work together. Will the starting line be a zoo of camera people such as what NHRA national events once were - back in the day when you could simply not leave your 'spot' by the rail as it would be gobbled up in seconds by somebody else leaving you no place to get your shot!?! Or will it be a fun gig where everybody gets along and nobody gets in anybody else's way? I kinda think (and hope) it'll be something in between, for if it proves to be too crazy, race officials will have to cut it back in coming years. Much like NHRA and Orlando does now. See this too... It's going to be very, very interesting to watch this aspect of the race as shooters from all over the continent gather at LVMS for what will be a drag race we'll be talking about for a very long time. So what will HH be doing through all this? Well, we have our 'road-trip' video component up and running, so we hope to be able to post pics, words and video while we're there and more when we get home. And unlike probably all of the other sites 'working' this race, we'll actually include in our coverage all the other sites where you can go to see what will surely be some awesome images and clips. In my mind it's more about doing what I can to make the event better than it is trying to provide the best coverage. I said I wanted to do it 'different' than the other guys and covering those who are covering the race is just one way HH is gonna do it.

Spoke to Brent at TPR last night and he tells me that they have rooms reserved and the truck is back together with fresh parts. Looks like the price of fuel has hit the level where a few more can make the trip. -Allen Dale Pedersen is going to Vegas BUT just to watch & hang out with us Yankees, Hope this clears up the mystery! See you next week! ~ Karen
How to fix pro nitro drag racing? 4.90/310mph heads-up breakout class (ET and speed), any chassis, any body, any motor, any fuel, any tire, any electronics, on a quarter mile, and no burnouts allowed. Could be fun for a couple of years until everybody sorts out what works best, then you change the rules so they all have to sit down and figure it out all over again...and so on, and so on, and... I'm home with lots of stuff to catch up on before I leave again next week (from a guy who used to love flying am coming to despise it). We have confirmation that Rash Dhaliwal & big Dave will be at SCSN...Ken Sihota WILL be at SCSN and ya those truckers at TPR will be too. Also attending is Calgary's Derek Przeginiak in 10.5. We'll update the main page later tonight. Only one left we're not sure on is Dale Pedersen, so if anybody up north can let us know... So gimme a day to get sorted out as I transfer all the stuff from the laptop to the desktop plus a bunch more things, and apologizes to the staff at Freeway Trailer who because of HH had to work two Mondays this week. We'll work on their request for no Monday next week... Chris Alston's Chassisworks Street Car Super Nationals
Nov 20th - 23rd, 2008 (November 14, 2008, Las Vegas, Nevada) 2008 has been an amazing season in heads-up street car racing. It does not matter which sanctioning body you follow or who your favorite driver is, this East vs. West event brings the best street car racers in North America together at one of the premier drag racing facility in the world. Take nothing away from the hugely popular Shakedown at E-Town or the pioneering World Street Nationals in Orlando, but SCSN IV promises to provide the fans with an unforgettable weekend in Sin City. Headlining the event are true superstars of the sport including Bob and Billy Glidden, Spiro Pappas and Mike Moran. The Gliddens will compete in Accufab Outlaw 10.5 as team mates and will match race in factory prepared Ford Mustangs in a special exhibition. Pappas brings his amazing Fast Times powered turbo Camaro from Chicago and intends to give the Gliddens a run for the prize money. Mike Moran returns to defend his Hughes Performance Pro Street title from SCSN III . Always the innovator, Moran posted an incredible 6.11 @ 246 MPH at the recent NHRA Pro Mod event in Vegas. However, a 2,950 pound race weight for SCSN IV will put added pressure on Morans 3,000 HP combination which recorded that performance at a Pro Mod weight of 2700 pounds . Moran will have a target on his back as big hitters from throughout the U.S. and Canada have their guns holstered. Lee Frank stunned the crowd with his #1 Qualifier at SCSN III and is likely to have found some additional power in his Reher Morrison/Speedtech combination since last year. Vinny Budano and Scott Shafiroff are rumored to be stopping by on their way home from the SEMA show. Their famous Camaro is both incredibly fast and deadly consistent. Dean and Cary Goforth of IHRA Pro Stock fame are also returning for their second visit to the SCSNs with their giant 820 inch mountain motors. Nevertheless, the previous three SCSN events have seen several less than famous racers make it to the finals and even win. In 2007, rookie Pro Street driver Jimmy Mock made it all the way to the finals against Moran, while largely unknown Canadian racer, Dale Moznik took out several big names including Spiro Pappas in the final to win Accufab Outlaw 10.5. In the drag radial arena, the current stand-out from both the Shakedown and Orlando, Paul Major, will be making the trip across the country from New York to show his skills in the Xtreeme Drag Radial class. His recent performance (7.20s in excess of 205 MPH) is truly remarkable on a drag radial. Look for PSCA standouts like Roger Holder, Steven Short, Scott Oksas, Slim Zeinaty, Justin Buettner and Walt Brock to step it up a notch and keep the trophy out west!! In the small drag radial class (Wild Street), Chris Groves and Al Jimenez both PSCA regulars have rewritten the record books with runs in the 7.60 range using Procharger equipped combinations. But that doesn't guarantee them the Cash & Trophy? Raygoza, Schwarz, Hanna, Phnister, Maghdessian and The Disco Boyz will be swingin' towards the fences to take the years biggest event!! Lets not forget about the Open Comp, Mustang, Index & Bracket classes!! With the purses doubled for this Big Event, you can be assured the best of the best will be in attendance!!! This is your last chance in 2008 to see the most insane Pro Street, Outlaw 10.5 and Drag Radial cars in the world. Combine four days of killer racing action with the night life of a town that never sleeps and you have a trip that is a must for any drag racing fan. Hotels rooms are the cheapest they have been in years and the fun factor is off the chart. SCSNs and Las Vegas .enough said. For more information visit the PSCA website at www.pscaracing.com and the SCSNs website at www.streetcarsupernationals.com
GO SIBLEY GO! Once we get home we'll work on replying to our e-mail, posting a bit more on the Vegas Lucas, putting together a video for the MRP banquet next Saturday night, doing a few individual videos, and fixing our e-mail on this laptop along with installing our video editing software to be ready for our return here next week for the Street Car Super Nationals. Oh ya...we'll also be updating our NW entries page with a bunch including those TPR truckers from Tacoma, and if somebody can confirm the rumors of Rash Dhaliwal and maybe Ken Sihota. Finally, check the Pomona results sites later this morning for that huge race-to-the-fives in Comp that'll be up about 10-11 am.
On this day of remembrance we vow to never forget the sacrifices of all of the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. The toughest thing to deal with after the biggest sportsman event in drag racing is that it comes just hours before the final pro race of the year which ends up taking so much of the attention away from the awesome event in Las Vegas. The stories, photos and videos we have are many even though because our only pit transportation was a pair of Rockports we did not venture into the vast expanse of LVMS pit space much at all. Regardless, we have some wonderful stuff that'll give all you loyal visitors many reasons to come back all winter long. As we continue to deal with the newness of our laptop, the firewall thing which does not allow us to answer or send any e-mail (but we can receive), the rather unreliable hotel wireless and the fact we're in Vegas and on holiday (so I'm not into fixing it), we'll do a bit each day, but save the bulk of our coverage for 'later'. So for all you dudes and dudettes back in the damp region we call home, I'm in my shorts, sandals and T-shirt and off to the the other Strip to get rich...lol
Cowie wins TAD, Nikki Cannon runner up and Division 6 Super Street champion after getting by Hernandez in semi and Dave Kelly runners-up in Super Gas. Jody Lang goes enough rounds to win D6 Stock championship. VanderMeer does not go enough rounds in Super Comp, nor does Hemley in Top Sportsman to get Divisional titles. Ferd's quest for a Super Gas world championship will go on to Pomona.
6:00 pm What a day as we get some racing in but not nearly enough. Lots of people from racers to crew to officials have flights home booked tonight, but may be late as McCarren airport is a mess of delays with floods and runway construction. About all we can ad from this morning is Bike is done with King the champ as Havens lost in round one. Brett Waldron, Jeff Jackson and Jay Fulcher are out of Super Street leaving Cannon and Hernandez. VanderMeer and Larson are both still in Super Comp and Top Sportsman never ran before the monsoons came after one pairing in Comp. Ferd advanced while Olpin didn't, but am not sure how that effects the world championship, and DeFrank's round one red light left a lot shaking their heads in Super Stock. Best moment of the day was Cowie winning on a massive holeshot. To make a long, wild weekend even more stressing was the Nellis AFB hosting a 100,000+ person (free admission) airshow called Aviation Nation Sat & Sun and using the drag strip parking lot as a park n ride. Not fun with roads closed all over the place and road construction everywhere. Then again we got a pretty freekin awesome airshow with the Thunderbirds, F22 Raptor, B52, F-16s, F-18s and a whole lot more ripping up the skies all day long. They'll try it again tomorrow with racing at 8am, alky at 10am. Not sure if I'll go out very early as this 'family holiday' has been anything but so far. PSCA results here and Zone has a revealing Bucky Austin interview that puts out a bunch of 'official' info (that's been known by many insiders for quite a while) before the 'official' NHRA announcements. I think Deano should continue this roll and release the 'real deal' on what's goin' down at that ChiTown strip. 7:00 am The weather has moved into the valley here in LV, with lots of clouds, chance of showers and winds predicted to go into tomorrow and run 25-35mph with 50mph gusts! D6 points details Already clinched: In Stock Jody Lang clinches by winning 3rd round. If he goes out earlier, Glen Person must win the event to pass him. Super Comp. Current leader Stefan Kondolay is not here, so Dick Vandermeer can win by going to round six. Violet Larson wins the championship if she wins the race. Super Street sees Nikki Cannon in the lead but Tony Hernandez, Dudley Gee, Brett Waldron, Jeff Jackson and Jay Fulcher are all possible champs. Robert Mathews leads Top Sportsman but is not here, so if Darryl Hemley wins the race he will take the title. Motorcycle points leader Leeland King can clinch by advancing to the semis while Jeff Havens must win the race. Thanks to DD Jonathan Adams for working this all out for us. We'll update as we can today.
After four dawn till dark days, yur ole webmaster is gettin' a bit burned out, but we'll go at it one more day tomorrow as the biggest sportsman race in the west comes to a close. For now we'll leave you with a couple more video frame caps (turst me, this stuff in HD on big screen is unbelieveable and looses a LOT in the transition to stills). In D6 action Brian Hough won the TAFC title today even though he's not here when his only competition Clint Thompson failed to qualify. In Top Dragster a first round loss by Mike Henderson gave the title to J.R. Leerkamp. Still up for grabs are Stock, Super Comp, Super Street and Motorcycle. Darryl Hemley made it thru round one of Top Sportsman and needs to win this race to take the championship. We'll update all the title runs tomorrow night.
Fuel Hog qualifying is lead by Orangevale California's Phil Schmidt who clocked an awesome 6.277 205.04.
Sorry, but our live streaming video gig is not gonna happen this weekend. There's just to much goin' on here to be testing new stuff. Comp Plus photogallery includes some great pics of Andy Beauchemin's TF Harley
Well the video experiment was a bust, but we'll try again tomorrow. Pretty cool race though as these two video frame caps show. First is Doug Vancil lighting up the Vegas night with a spectacular explosion, and then we see Trevor Lebsack out of Slave Lake AB, as the wheelie bar breaks on his 2005 Camaro TAFC. D6 runners are looking good with Ron Houniet second in TF Hog with a nice 6.415 209.92, Shawn Cowie is baddest of the BADs so far at 5.358 269.08, good for fourth, and how about that Jirka Kaplan and Mark Wolfe leading Comp. Kaplan's totally insane 6.127 in AA/AM 1.003 under and maybe the baddest alky roadtser run of all time. Rumor is this thing will be in the fives at Pomona. Wolfe got it all together with a great 6.463. Looks like just one more qualifier for everybody tomorrow
except for the alky classes. It's gonna be huge, and we'll have lots
more coverage all weekend long and going into next week.
2:25 pm update Ok now the damn thing is working, so I will try to get hooked up about 5-6pm tonight. Go here for the live feed and cross your fingers. 2:20 pm update Well the 'live video cam' plan for this weekend has run into a technical snag with the new laptop. I'll work on it tonight, but not sure I'll be able to solve this one. Hopefully have it fixed by SCSN so we can play with doing a live video and audio/broadcast direct from the track. It's gonna be a long couple of days here at LVMS, but I should have some time next week to post some pics and maybe even video from the Lucas race. For now check back maybe nightly for some.
Another early day tomorrow as they call Super Street to the lanes at the ungodly hour of 6:30 a.m.! Good news is Stock follows them at 7:30 and with cool sunny, dry conditions should put a few on the bumper. Again, you'll see soon. For those stuck back in hinterland, take a hint and check back here VERY often tomorrow afternoon as we hope to do something 'live' that'll knock yer socks off. I'm say 'try' so bear with me. Lots more comin' all weekend long as we experience the biggest Lucas race of them all at LVMS.
Plenty of time to test the new wireless gig as I sit in the Bellingham airport on a SIX F'ING HOUR DELAY!! OK, here's the deal. I 'hope' to have web access to update HH while at LV. Check back often as if this works we'll be updating from the Lucas starting Friday at 7am when the Stockers begin their first runs down the track...not a call to staging...the first cars down the track...ohhhhh man. If this flops, I'll be back next week.
While the rest of the world is watching the U.S. election, HH is busy getting ready for our second trip to Las Vegas in two weeks - and this time round we're working on a major surprise for ya...more soon. Just a couple of things as we wrap up a few more client videos before we leave: SEMA has just
opened as we post this and this site has some terrific coverage already.

6.65 was a horrible run, it just about shut off the engine on the
line then took off with a 1.10 60'. I had a long talk with Don Ness
and he helped me set up the car different and I hope it will finally
work right."
Rain delay in Orlando...racing in Vegas live audio here. The 2009 Cobra Jet Shelby Mustang will be officially
unveiled to the industry this week at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.
The following weekend, a pair of the Cobra Jet Mustangs driven by
Bob and Billy Glidden, will stage a best two out of three match race
during the PSCA Streetcar Nationals in Las Vegas. (more) We've just learned of a new product that could be a major leap forward in our efforts to get HD video out to clients. This baby is available now, we'll hopefully have one in a couple of weeks. BB has them for $99. It appears to have it's own play back system to choose movies so you won't even need a laptop, just this box and a $99 hard drive you can get at any mainstream store. Will make showing HD videos anywhere there's a HDMI flatscreen, super easy for all kinds of promotional applications. Each box will handle two USB drives making for a massive 1.5 TB of backed up pristine HD video in a tiny package. 2TB a few months from now. Total cost about $500! Forget Blu ray, this kinda box is the future of HD video to the masses. The fact it can also do stills makes it even better.
Orlando is down on cars but high on entertainment. Blessed by go-fast weather and an apparently decent surface, the 2008 World Street Nationals is going the route of both E Town and Las Vegas where the numbers are actually more manageable for a group of cars and trucks that often cause delays in the racing. It's the nature of the beast that 'stuff happens' when sportsman racers with pro attitudes race very serious equipment. But of all the great numbers coming out of Florida, it is a 'street car' in Las Vegas that we simply must single out tonight. Mike Moran has qualified his Pro Street Monte Carlo into the LVMS Pro Mod field with an ET and speed that are simply stunning for a turbo door car - 6.117/245.99, good for the number 11 spot. He'll race Ricky Distefano in round one tomorrow. If Moran can just go down the track the same over and over, he may go rounds. The "over and over" thing has always been this car's downfall. Coming after a 6.276/241.20, he could well be on to something. He's also got some excellent data to work with for SCSN. In other turbo SCSN car news Mark Wolfe qualified 31 in AA/AT with a .499 under 6.651/217.11. He was a no show in round one and we have not heard why, so if anybody knows... |
