CITY Motion before CIty Council I would ask that you, as a user of this facility, email your local alderman for your business or home and ask them to support this motion, and explain the affect of the loss of this facility on your business or life. The motion does not ask for anything not already granted by the City, and I think our Aldermen need to recognize that their constituents are affected if Race City is forced to close. This is the website for the Ward offices Thank you for taking the time to do this so that your local alderman gets the message before they vote on Monday. Art MacKenzie Happy Halloween!
MRP 2008 Award Banquet ticket sales end November
15 Southeast and Southwest the places to be this weekend In an announcement today LVMS officials have said reserved seating for Sunday is sold out. While there remains good seats in the general admission sections this has to come as very positive news and proof race fans are still coming to LVMS in big numbers despite the economy. Note, reserved seating for Friday and Saturday is still available. One of the most difficult decisions HH had to make in mid-2008 was graciously turning down a personal invite from track manager Carl Weisinger of Orlando Speed World Dragway. Media passes are very tight for this race and it was way cool that Carl offered one to us. Unfortunately at the time we just couldn't say for sure we could make it. Maybe next year as this is one event we simply have to go to sometime. Though many sites and boards will be covering the race, due to illness Jimmy Biggs of Your Way Network will not be attending to do live video. Who can forget last year up till the wee hours waiting for the rain to stop along with some awesome coverage all weekend long. We know there are a LOT of locals in Vegas not just to spectate but to race as we begin a two weekend stand at THE STRIP that will determine many, many divisional points battles. Next week we'll be packing up and heading there to cover SEMA and the Lucas race, but until then we continue working on individual video projects.
Racers and fans can vote now for special awards to be presented at the 2008 NHRA Northwest Division Awards Banquet. PSCA highlight video now posted It was interesting to note that one of the racers
who crashed this past weekend at the PSCA race had insurance to cover
the costs of an on-track accident. With that in mind we're running
this exclusive story. Insuring Race Cars For a solitary owner/driver with limited resources, a single trailer with a tow vehicle, a mechanic or assistant, some key replacement parts and tools may get him to the track on race day. On the race track and off, every item in either inventory will be exposed to a number of risks that should be covered by one type of insurance or another. When you consider the range of risks that a race car, equipment and crew can be exposed to, no single car insurance policy will be sufficient and there are insurers who specialize in insuring racing operations. Most of these specialty insurers would suggest race car insurance (STP - Storage, Transport and Paddock) for the times when your vehicle is off the track to cover physical damage or theft. Save money on race car insurance by hauling your race car in a covered rather than open air hauler. Storing your race car in a fully-covered, locked garage rather than an open carport will also entitle you to reduced rates. Race car insurance does not include liability coverage and is not intended for "street legal" performance vehicles. Be prepared to pay a premium of $500 to $800 per year with a $500 deductible. "On-track" insurance is usually secured by a fairly high premium and covers just one event for damage that occurs to your car. To cover off-track damage to your trailer, insurers recommend a commercial vehicle policy which will add liability and damage coverage for your tow vehicle, trailer, motorhome, race car, and equipment. Many race tracks, including NHRA sanctioned tracks, provide "track insurance" which covers personal injury to crew, drivers, and other participants. On tracks that do not have track insurance, a driver can purchase "owner liability insurance" to secure the same coverage. Coverage by the above policies can be augmented by a standard homeowner's policy and medical insurance. The stakes are high for either the occasional hobbyist
or the weekly competitor, due to damage, theft or injury. Insurers
set their premiums based on accident
statistics and the value of the property to be insured. Take the
advice of those who did not check their coverage and lost. Make sure
you know what is covered, cover everything that you can't afford to
lose, and shop for the best rates.
Note: I just arrived home from one of the wildest weekends of drag racing I have ever witnessed in nearly 40 years of attending quarter mile competition. I dropped off my video computer to be updated the day I left and have just enuf time to post a bit here then go out pick it up and hopefully have it up and running with no issues later tonight. For now, we'll post a few still frames from some of the most spectacular video the ole HH camcorder has ever recorded. Hopefully it'll get you thru until we can edit the video the next day or two. -LP Firebird Halloween Classic - if you think Vegas was nutz, wait'll you see images from the Air Firebird wheelstand contest! Bucky Austin and Jay Livingston to run Spokane! Stand by for official news at a 2:30 press conference this afternoon. More info here, thanks to Chuck for the link. Emotions run high at PSCA Fallnats Because of our super busy schedule we didn't arrive in Vegas until late Friday night so we did not see Yakima driver Kurtis Tamez put his new Mustang on it's lid in the lights. We won't attempt to post any more as there's a thread on YB with some details from Kurtis here. Fortunately Kurtis was ok and Frank is his usual calm self. A tough break for a couple of super, super guys. We're really looking forward to seeing them both at SCSN. The really sad news came mid day Saturday when word came in that noted 10.5 racer Rich Zehring's father Steve had suddenly passed away. My sincerest condolences to Rich, his family and their many friends. There is a thread going on the PSCA message board here. As for the racing it was simply spectacular despite a small car count - in some cases caused by the carnage from three other non-injury wrecks and a number of engine failures. Though we shot the wrecks I'm not sure I'll post them due to some 'comments' on a couple of message boards. Regardless, what we will post'll floor you, here's some still frames to tease you with:
I'm off to Vegas. No phone + no e-mail = holiday. Will not be posting from race, decided to update editing system instead of getting a laptop. Priorities, priorities. Check the message board on the psca site for regular updates. What a spectacular couple of days it's gonna be, hopefully we can find some time to pop by BJ at the Bay...heard Mozniks left yesterday...the addition of Pro Mod is gonna be fun...and quick. I should be posting late Tuesday. As I post this it's hard to believe seven years ago tonight I was with three fine friends driving north from Bakersfield after a weekend at the digs that has still not been bettered. Speaking of The Reunion, Canucks were in the news at what was called HRHRS on DRC. On Saturday Sherwood Park Alberta driver Lisa Lavoie's
A/Fueler was involved in an incident with Darryl Waters that reporter
Darryl Jackman described as: "Both
were on and off the throttle and suddenly one car was completely side
ways and barrel rolling down track. Both cars came together and while
it appears both drivers are A-OK the same can't be said for the cars.
They can be rebuilt." Header Flames, the popular vintage message board, has posted: "Lisa was back at the track by 6:00 p.m. last evening with no apparent damage other than a huge shiner! Lucky young lady." Speaking of web sites, I checked the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage section and it's...well, it's weak.
The gorgeous '63 Corvette just killed 'em in AA/GAS, on the way to a closer final round win than many expected his .151/6.624/207.18 defeating Leonard's 0.086/6.727/203.98. It has to be one of the all-time great performances in the class as Kaplan and team really delivered in front of the big boys this weekend. The Bearspaw car came out with a very early shutoff 6.989 at 158.42 that had nearly everybody with a wtf was that kinda grin. Leonard's sixty six was low ET of that session. In the second Stanza he made Steve Woods' 6.81 199 look tame with a shattering 6.420/213.27! Round three was the only ugly moment of the weekend when he "breaks early in his run and faces a little uncertainty going into Sunday. He had the field covered at Fontana and had a problem in the semi-final that cost him the race." In round one Sunday the car simply thundered to a Low ET of the event 0.023 6.390 216.50 win over Scott White's 7.61. A spectacular race in round two saw Kaplan's .100/6.412/215.87 take out the sinister four door Valiant of Sean Renteria that had a near perfect .001 and a close 6.760/204.03. Final round was an easy bet to make but it was tight, Leonard's .088/ 6.727/203.98 right there with Jirka's winning .151/6.624/207.18. Quite a weekend for the Canadians at The Reunion...then
and now.
Happy anniversaries Powerful stuff from Will Hanna makes me wonder how many racers have actually been down to the catch fence area (all the way down) at the tracks they run to have a good look around to get familiar with just what is there in the remote chance they may be in the same spot later going way fast with little time to make a possible life saving decision...? And there are some GREAT ideas here
"Damn the economy, it's full speed to THE
STRIP!" Next weekend October 17 & 18 , we're at THE STRIP for the PSCA Fall Nationals. A coupla weeks after that we're back in Vegas for SEMA, Nitro Harleys under the lights and that lil ole' NHRA Lucas finale - that is SO welcome back after a year absence! Finally just a few days after we get home from that huge gig, we leave for the last HH drag race of 2008, and yes, we did save the best one for last. We're goin' to the fourth annual Street Car Supernationals! It's gonna be a blast as we shoot it and post the best of it all in streaming HD! should give us enuf stuff to post well into the new year. HUGE
NW PRO STREET NEWS!
Wow. This race is gonna be so cool. You have plenty of time to make plans. The official site now lists nearly 40 Pro Street entries alone including the first five second bottle car - ya, that's right, Halsey's cumin' to Vegas! So, no excuses. This is going to be the dream door car race of the year. Orlando will be bigger, but Vegas is fast gaining the reputation of the one all the fast cars come to. Last year they set the all time quickest Pro Street field and laid down the quickest bottled street passes in history. With credentials like that, how can you question more greatness in '08. http://www.streetcarsupernationals.com And who was that testn out at mrp today? Looked like maybe Mozniks and possibly that gorgeous new Mustang of Howie Stevens...?
I had a feeling something would happen if I got political... Local SCSN racers Hogs at Vegas
This week our work revolves around finishing the Medicine Hat video followed by a lot of individual video jobs and an official announcement on the big upcoming HH Fall Tour. Stay tuned folks. The local season may be over, but the we'll have tons of awesome coverage to bring you for at least another two months! NASCRAP part of criminal bailout. Eagle crowns 2008 season champions This set the stage for an 'awards' banquet with no clear champions in Super Pro or Junior. Fortunately it still proved to be a fun night of trophies, the highlight being an hilarious slide show courtesy Jeff Buechler. For photos go to the track site. Sunday provided a few weather-related delays that included fresh snow falling on the low hills very close to the track. Both S/P and Jr provided some excitement...and a touch of controversy. Junior saw the top three in points race for the title which ended with Holly Clark getting by Justin Gibson for the win and the championship after taking out third place Amanda Bollinger the round previous. It was even more exciting in Super Pro as going in Jason Gibson was tied Al Quigley followed one round back by Peter Bereditsch and Jim Behnke another one back in fourth. After round one it was a three way tie with both Gibson and Quigley not advancing, Bereditsch now tied with both of them and Behnke in second a round back of all three. Third round was interesting as Behnke lined up beside Bereditsch. They both left nice, but Bereditsch lost traction on what may have been a spot of rain giving Behnke the win and a four way tie for fourth. I believe it ended up Behnke got the championship on total wins as he lost to Brian Barby in the final. Regardless, it was his 7th championship in 14 years of racing at Eagle. In Pro George Hill won over Marty Parson in that final. Final points are on the Eagle site (or will be soon), but here are your 2008 track champions, runners-up and third place finishers:
First nitrous five and other insanity from E Town Jim Halsey was the only nitrous warrior who managed a five second pass, then was dominant running sub sixes every round in an impressive display of power. On the other side of the ADRL-type event Scotty Cannon laid down a couple of awesome passes of his own before he choked in the blower final. For all the results, pics, videos etc check all your regular haunts. About the the only other notes I can mention is from the photos I've seen the crowd was not great...there will be coverage on Speed TV with the dates so far not yet set...and despite the television coverage other video people were still allowed to shoot on the line...the lack of many engine and weight rules made for most of the amazing numbers as did near perfect weather conditions. It remains to be seen if this kind of event is the future of doorslammer competition, but with maybe a half dozen big races each year, all-time marks falling like crazy, it hearkens back to an earlier age of pro drag racing when there were not many races, more than a few could actually have a hope of winning one, and numbers meant something. With both Orlando and Vegas still to come on this unofficial coast-to-coast 'tour' one has to wonder how long this will stay 'cool' before somebody tries to make it a true national series and most likely fucks it up. For now enjoy cause this is the best show in drag racing bar none, and I predict the Super Car Nats at LVMS will be THE best drag race on the west coast in 2008 for people who care about little guys, performance numbers, and being able to go to a 'big' race and really not know who may win it. And speaking of fun, Mike Peck sent us this:

Expo, Puyallup, WA October 18-19, 2008 OVER 600 RACERS WILL COMPETE FOR $45,000 PURSE AT NAPA HALLOWEEN CLASSIC XV AT FIREBIRD Unlike any other event all season long, the NAPA Auto Parts Halloween Classic presented by Peterson Toyota is packed with racing from Wednesday, October 15th until the boo bash comes to a close on Sunday, October 19th.
All the festivities take place at Firebird Raceway, located 5 miles north of the Hwy 44 on Hwy 16-northwest of Idaho's capital city of Boise. The Classic is much more than a drag racing event, it represents the true "festive atmosphere" that surrounds one of America's most popular holidays-HALLOWEEN! Saturday, October 18th, is the key day as far as Halloween fanfare is concerned. Activities include Kid's Games from 4 pm - 6 pm, followed by one of this community's largest Costume contests. Special Hayrides will commence shortly after the games conclude. At 6 pm, the Witching Hour begins. This is the moment all kids are released throughout the pit area of Firebird to "Trick or Treat" from race trailer to trailer, motorhome to travel trailer in an incredible journey and pursuit of candy and goodies from the Firebird racing community. Beginning at 8 pm, it's the Adults turn to join in on the festivities in an event coined: "the largest costume party at a Drag Strip in the west". Special awards and prizes will go out to the top costumes, along with additional merits being extended to those teams who excel in the incredible "decorated pit-space" competition. Easily one of the most anticipated activities of the weekend will be Air Firebird Wheelstanding Show. Racers will have an opportunity to score the "title" for both highest and longest wheelstand on Saturday evening at 7:30 pm. Racers may enter the event on any day of the weekend. Free camping is offered to all participants who secure full weekend credentials. Gates open daily at 9 am, followed by first round special Gambler races start at 1 pm on Thursday and Friday, while the Classic race itself starts at 3 pm on Saturday and concludes on Sunday. One of the highlights to the weekend will be the Top Gun race open to the quickest 16 open wheelers and the 16 quickest full-bodied rides at the event. Qualifying will take place on Thursday and Friday, while first round of Top Gun kicks off at 12:30 pm on Saturday. Adult tickets can be purchased at the track daily for: $12 Wed, Thurs., & Fri., $15 for Saturday or Sunday, which includes pit-side access, kid's 6-12 are $5 daily and toddlers 5 & under are free. For more information - drop by the Firebird website

It's Eagle
time at HH! Saturday night we're gonna have a surprise when we first show the 'video' and that's all I'll say for now on that. Sunday they'll begin when they awaken, so don't rush out there. When they do look for some kind of cool low ET heads-up race. Can't recall the details, but check the Eagle forum for more. Here's more info from Track Manager Joe Sye: With this weekend fast approaching, excitement is growing with the classes being so close. Who will be the top three in each class? With mother nature not being sure what she wants to give us for weather, we are going to make every effort to make the final race happen, whether it is Saturday or Sunday. We will be going ahead with the banquet of course but may not be able to present the class awards then [at the banquet]. If for whatever reason we can't get the race in this weekend, we will use the following Saturday (Oct. 11th) as the rainout day. You must be in attendance this weekend and purchased a tech card to be able to run on that Saturday if it is rescheduled! There will be NO buy-ins that day. If there happens to be a tie in any class [top 3] in points, there will be a tie breaker at the completion of the race to determine the final standings. The banquet looks like it should be fabulous again with Gordie from the Wander Inn doing the dinner for us, with some dancing and partying after the award presentations. We will be again running the shuttle bus back and forth from the Cache Creek Hall to the track all night. There will be security at the track while we are at the party. If you haven't gotten your ticket yet, please let us know as we need to determine what we require for the dinner. There will be some available at the track, but not sure how many. Must say I was very impressed how the crew at the track
took care of me an the ol Thunder Spud. I got some snazzy looking
bruises from the belts but sure am glad I always crank them down tight.
Its amazing how all the safety gear you buy and bitch about buying
all comes together and works like a charm.(that window net was a neat
feature to have as the pavement was sliding buy). Here's a pic of Don's car from 'the old dayz': Cool Cuda Its the former Just PlummKrazy. Ran 8.90's as wheelstander.(haven't
been able to run Mission for a number of years now due to work schedule)
I have owned car for about 10 yrs now(doesn't seem like it)

That's almost it for plugging my main guys. Special thanks goes out to these guys, without them, there would be no "Purple Ice". "The biggest thanks of all goes to my wife Kathy
for putting up with this project & all the $$$$ going into it." It was big hit at Woodburn, and weekend before big
hit at the Arlington Dragstrip Reunion & Car Show. |
