Thank you to the many who have already sent positive e-mails on the videos! It's a ugly job, but somebody has to do it eh...lol!

What a weeks it's been. The Mission Lucas turned out to be a wonderful race, one of the best ever at the now 16 year old strip. A couple of glitches here and there, but overall just a great race. Unfortunately I'll just not be able to do it justice with everything I'd like to post. A few more videos to do, but sadly I simply won't have the time to do an alky dragster and funny car highlight vid. Time has sinply run out, now it's on to the next event this coming weekend. Some personal matters (that end this week after a long haul) will end and so we'll be able to really get on track from here on. My apologies to the alky racers, but I do what I can do and the alky stuff takes a lot more time to do well than the other classes.

That's when HH goes to the Eagle Motorplex for the ERA's biggest race of the year - the Lordco Auto Parts NHRA National Open. This is the first of four visits we'll make to the high desert strip and we're really looking forward to it. There have been a bunch of improvements made and if the butts in the seats at the bike drags recently is any indication, their promotions should make for a great crowd this weekend. We'll post complete results, pics and vids next week.

Not much more for the moment, we'll see ya Friday night at MRP then Eagle Saturday and Sunday. Race ON!

Test n Tune notes from Mission Lucas

It's been hectic around here the past week with a lot of personal stuff that took a ton of time. So much so that we flat forgot to post a release that 1320tv.com will be hosting all our video from this Lucas weekend at Mission. That being said, and our schedule each day for the next three roughly 5am - midnight, the videos will be delayed until Tuesday or so.

It'll be worth the wait however as just today we got some great video.

Worst regret of the day was going to the lil boyz room as Tom Gaynor...not Tommy...put the ex-POS racing Firebird Stocker on the back bumper for about 200 ft. in the right lane. "I had never been this high in my life" he said later. "And it wasn't coming down." Carlson has stills, so we'll have those for ya asap.

The Double A 69 Camaro of those Sorensen Bros. had traction problems most of the day...which started after 12 noon due to wet stuff last nite....then put it all together with a 9.88/132.56 that was simply beauty in motion. Unique single wheelie bar on the Method's B/SA Nova took time to sort out as they made a bunch of runs, one seeing Mary Ann (photo) put the front end up as high as this writer has ever seen it.

Division Champ Hough made four attempts ending with a major oildown 5.78/254.02. The only full alky pass from about a half dozen ana few who ran mostly 60 footers here...often because of tire shake.

Gary Ormsby Jr. in the Jeff Johnson prepared, Hugh Ridley owned, ex-Brandon Johnson car, hit the wall past the finish line after an early shutoff pass that saw him start in the left lane and finish flat against the right wall. Second hand word is he's ok and the car can be fixed.

Casey Plazier looking awesome in the Ken Reich Comp ride running a gorgeous 8.35/161.60 in the CSMA Cavalier.

Talk is of as many as 20 Comp cars here. First surprise entrant Phil Cocuzza had problems getting down the track today. Bruce Perkin went 8.78/153.53 in E/SM trim.

George Evans going a hand-slapping 7.42/183.71 in the new Evan Bros Lucas Oil mouse motored blown Chevy 'Super Comp' dragster.

Track was just ok as it took a hit last weekend with the massive heat and bracket and street car turnout then torrential rains right up until early morning today. It should be fine tomorrow, as the weather will be much warmer and less humid. Maybe not perfect, but by Sat and Sun this place is gonna be sticky and quick. The weather report is like none this race has seen in nearly a decade. Near perfect conditions right thru the weekend.

Lots more neat stuff as NHRA brings some kinda show here this weekend, but two things easily stood above all else this day. The sight of Rod Stults back at the digs, smiling, wheelstanding and the Godfather of Northwest drag racing, Bill Kost hangin out with Pete, Dino and all his friends. Damn but I didn't see Stan Hawes here today too.

Gonna be a great three days of drag racing my friends. We'll update nightly as we can.

Sholz at MRP but on way back to hospital
Richardt Sholz is no stranger to visitors of HH. Unfortunately he's been in Langley Memorial Hospital ever since his big B.C. Classic & Custom Car Show April 26/27, but showed up at MRP late yesterday with his lady Lorna. "The doctors still don't know what's wrong with me" he told HH. "It's a blood disorder of some kind." He was out on a day pass scheduled to check back in last night. He looked good, said he felt good, but added. "I may be in another week, I may be in another six months". Hopefully they figure it out soon and he's back to work on next year's show. He can take visitors at Langley Memorial, and his cell phone still works, so anybody wanting to pass along a get well message can reach him. We'll update you on his condition as things move forward.

BIG turnouts at two B.C. Drag Races
If this weekend is any indication, drag racing in western Canada is alive and well. On traditionally slow long weekend race dates, both Mission Raceway Park (Sunday morning photo right) and the Eagle Motorplex in Ashcroft held well attended events.

At MRP, a rather 'normal' Friday was followed by great turnouts both Saturday and Sunday. Super Pro saw 23 cars in round one Saturday and 25 Sunday. There were 50 in Pro Saturday, 46 Sunday. Sportsman was 47 and 30 Sunday. The RJ Enterprises/VP Fuels Canada West Doorslammers brought in 18 fast door cars. The Lordco Super Combo attracted 22/19 and the BC Super Shifters had 21/20, while just over a dozen ran Hot Rod both days. Junior and bike were under a dozen each.

Test n Tune and License runs brought out nice guy Mark Sanders (photo left) along with his cool crew of family and friends. Nitro Nova dubbed 'Mr. Explosive' ran as quick as 6.22, the former mud racer looking great in his first decent outing with the car.

Mike Peck got his front motored dragster down to 7.04 and will be here looking for sixes next weekend in T/D. Zazulla in the NitroLube dragster ran a career best 6.65/208.52.

D6 Hall of Famer Fast Frank Nelson lived up to his nickname with new Cavlier turning in easy mid sevens, the big guy thinking he may put the Lenco back in after some concerns with the Liberty.

Ken Sihota (photo right) was out in a former Pro Stock late model Firebird with his 500 inch nitrous motor pushing into the mid sevens. He'll get used to it and probably run Doorslammer and maybe even Pro Street this year.

Eagle's CMDRA season opener featured 114 bikes, nine in Top Fuel where Ron Houniet was low qualifier and Andy Beauchemin the winner. More soon.

Next up for the door car crowd, after the Mission Lucas of course, will be a CWDA points race at Pacific Raceway that we understand will feature the first serious outing by some of the new U.S. Pro Street cars. We'll be in Ashcroft that weekend for the Lordco Auto Parts NHRA National Open, but are working to get a results and photos gig for the Kent race.

We've got a lot of big announcements still to come here at HH as we step up our program in 2008 - as you may have already noticed. Obviously some people have as interest is growing daily. The plan is to make this THE premiere sportsman drag site in the northwest, and though some may feel it already is, stand by folks, cause you aint' seen nuthin yet!

HH to attend four Eagle Motorplex races in 2008 as they open tomorrow
Horsepower Heaven and the Eagle Racing Association have just come to an agreement to have the ole HH camcorder and still cam at their newly-revamped strip more in 2008 than the previous two years combined. Here's our list:

May 30/June 1 for the Lordco Auto Parts NHRA National Open Double Header featuring the Cutting Edge Automotive Outlaw Doorslammers, Top Comp and all the other NHRA classes.

July 12/13 for the Aurora Electronics Night race when the Canada West Doorslammers along with the B.C. Super Shifters come in for a big show. We also hear that NHRA Wallys will be up for the CWDA racers!!

July 19/20, just one week later, for the 1st Annual Lucas Oil Nostalgia Drags featuring the RJ Enterprises/VP Fuels Blown Alky Summer Series Race #1, the Cutting Edge Automotive Outlaw Door Slammer Race #4, a special dinner and live entertainment later that night.

Oct. 4/5 we'll end their season and attend the banquet as well as repeating that very specially priced HH photo CD project that was so popular last year.

This weekend will see a big race at Da Plex marking the debut of the Outlaw Doorslammers. Manager Joe Sye sent us these details.

"R&H will be out with a few cars and should be at least 8 from the Okanagan and whatever comes from the coast.
It's a format similar to the CWDA - 8.99 and quicker. Three hits on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday. $100.00 low qualifier $100.00 for the best burnout. $50.00 per day user fee and $100.00 per race buy-in. We will be including the class in our overall points. ERA will also be adding to the pot depending on car count. 50% to the winner 30% to r/u and 10% each to 3rd and 4th."

As well the second running of 'Drinks' will go down...in more ways than one. Should be a great weekend in Ashcroft. Check their site with the link atop this page for more details.

Get ready racers and race fans! The Handlers' Racing Association, dba Bremerton Raceway is proud to bring drag racing to Kitsap County at the inactive runway of the Bremerton International Airport for the 49th consecutive year.

On Friday, May 9, 2008 the gates open at 3 pm for Street Legals and a Test &Tune for all vehicles. Racing starts at 4 pm. The gates will close at 9 pm. Tech cards are $25.00 for car and driver. General admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for Active Duty Military, children 12 and under is free when accompanied by an adult.

Saturday May 10th will be a Test & Tune for all vehicles, Truck Town's Jr. Dragster Series #4, and NPSA meet # 1. Gates open at 8:00 am, racing starts at 9 am. Junior Dragsters will start their time trials approximately at noon. General admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for Active Duty Military, children 12 and under is free when accompanied by an adult. Tech cards are $35.00, car & driver. The Killer Bee Booster Club will be having a Mother's Day chef salad. Tickets will be sold for $5.00, soda and water $1.00. Dinner starts at approximately at 6:30. The gates will close at 8 pm.

Sunday, May 11th, the gates open at 7 am for our 16th Annual Mother's Day Nationals that will include a Novice bracket. This is a good opportunity for women to test their skills behind the wheel against other novice women who are looking for a challenge. We are also having the NPSA meet # 2 and Land of the Leaders Challenge # 1. Tech cards (car & driver) are $35.00 for Novice, Sportsman and Pro, $40.00 for Super Pro and Motorcycles and $25.00 for High School. General admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for Active Duty Military, children 12 and under is free when accompanied by an adult.

We invite you to bring your Mothers and other special women in your life out for a thrill. The first 100 women thru the gate will receive a carnation.

The wicked, wicked door cars just keep on comin!
This is getting crazy... as we learn of yet another awesome local Top Sportsman ride, this time what appears to be a twice turbo'd GTO for long time Northwest campaigner Curt Geise. We don't have any other details on it, but from the pictures Curt sent us, we cannot wait to see this thing rip up some assfalt! We've also heard a of a couple more serious door cars almost ready to go and when we get more, we'll post.

We loose another
Brief word has come in regarding the passing of local racer Mick Roberge. It's understood he suffered a heart attack last weekend, but that's about all we know at the moment.

Though we didn't know him well, his acceptance of the third place Super Pro award at the 2007 MRP banquet was a highlight as he was truly thrilled to finish the season so well, then be brought up to be recognized in front of his peers. It really was a touching moment and for many will remain a lasting memory.

The image here is a copy of the photo plaque he got that night, though the original did not have the image of Mick himself. That was added for this posting.

Our condolences to his family and friends. If we get any information regarding services we will post here.


Action in Las Vegas
We've been sent a couple of rather entertaining images by LVMS track photographer Doug Kranz. One shows our good buddy Mark Rapp at the recent PSCA show during Friday night testing. The former drag boat pilot has been working on his small tire Nova for a while and loves doing wheelies. This time however he kinda out did himself, but saved the car and raced that weekend.

We also have a video of this run and will post soon.

The other is a pic of the wild Funny Car final last weekend when Mindy Fry tagged the wall, ripping the body off the Future Flash Charger. Last time we checked, Fry was not on the list of drivers coming to Mission for the Open July 26/27, but with this group of racers you just never know.

Way to go on the HH video sales at Freeway Trailer. That will be a great boost for you. I have known Mike a long time, and when he decided to sponsor the Division Six trailer in 1993, it turned into a very good relationship not only for him and the Division, but for the racers also.

More new Northwest hot rods
Brian Sells of Redline Race Cars in Longview WA (360-957-3109) has been very busy over the winter on both a Top Sportsman ride for Jim Hurlock and another Pro Mod. Long time NW racer Hurlock will have this beautiful '07 GTO running in Top Sportsman at the Mission Lucas while the Pro Mod '68 Camaro will be out later this year. Those Nostalgia Funny Car issues in Vegas this past weekend apparently have nothing to do with the scheduled appearance of the NFCA points race at MRP July 26/27 during the NHRA National Open. For a race surrounded in crazyness, the final round was somewhat fitting. DRO has the best coverage.

The cool new door cars are just comin out of the woodwork as that Yakima Tamez family send word that this new Nova may be at Mission in '08. "Here is the exclusive sneak peak at the '67 Nova I put together to run the Outlaw Top Sportsman series at Renegade. 632 with a glide. I put Kurtis in it at Phoenix this spring before the paint job and it qualified 9th with a 7.26 at 2800 feet of air". We really hope Frank and Kurtis may well make it up here this year!


Bikers go wild at MRP

Yesterday saw a pair of nitro hogs out testing at Mission Raceway Park getting ready for the big CMDRA season opener at the Eagle Motorplex in just two weeks on the May 17/18 weekend. Langley rider Rob Smith had "a few new pieces" on his familiar flamed flyer. He made just one hit resulting in a very impressive 6.44/215.00 mph run that looked very smooth...almost easy.

Then on his first weekend atop one of the most powerful pieces alive, Victoria's Damian Cownden, on the former Ron Houneit ride, laid down an amazing 6.65/194.63 that had the crew out of Steve Drane Harley Davidson in Victoria more than ready for their sophomore season. "We were trying to step up, blew the tires off on two runs, and finally moved it back at bit" Cownden said of the big pass that came late Sunday. The 2007 CMDRA Rookie of the Year is obviously out to take on the big boyz for 2008...oh and by-the-way, Mr. Houneit has a new fueler that should be out soon.

Not so funny nostalgia flopper issues summed up by Cole Coonce

Hoerner is in the 12 spot and will kick KJ's butt tomorrow morning in round one...

Mission is rained out for today, but will try again tomorrow. Depending on a number of factors including the weather and the car count they may try for a double header on Sunday, but will make the final decision on that tomorrow morning.

Hoerner is 'only' number eight after three rounds in mine shaft conditions at St Louis with an awesome 6.634 207.75! Considering this was the simply quickest and fastest session in history, the dude from Deer Park is making his mark!

Currently that's all it is - a rumor.

Those darn doorslammers...
...return to MRP this weekend, but we got to see a couple of 'em puttin on a show during the test session this afternoon. Terry Spargo laid down a pair of awesome passes, both very close to each other, the best being a 6.76/206.94 hit that showed some awesome potential. Then Chris Murphy launched his new blown Camaro into a series of crossed up, tire torturing, wheelstands of the three wheel variety. And we caught it all on video here.

After two rounds of qualifying at the O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals in St Louis, Deer Park Washington's favorite son, Todd Hoerner is in the number 18 spot. Looking better at every outing, the entire northwest is rooting for one of the sport's true nice guys to make it big in the ultra competitive world of NHRA Pro Stock.

Lucas Oil Canada and Big Rig from Abbotsford have consented to being the major sponsors of the 21st Annual Langley Loafers Old Time Drags at Ashcroft's Eagle Motorplex June 6, 7, 8.

Lucas has also taken over one of the track scoreboards, will sponsor the 1st Annual Nostalgia Race July 19/20, and sponsor the Junior Dragster trophies for the third year running.

Bremerton this weekend
The Handlers' Racing Association, Inc., dba Bremerton Raceway, plan another 3-day event this weekend.

The gates open Friday at 3 pm for Street Legals and a Test and Tune. Racing will begin at 4 pm. Tech cards are $25.00 for car and driver. Gate admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for active duty military and children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult.

Saturday, May 3rd, is a Test and Tune for all vehicles, the Bremerton Car Club Challenge #1 and the National Hot Rod Diesel Association. The gates open at 8 am, racing starts at 9 am. Qualifying for Truck Town's Junior Dragster Series #3 will start at noon. Tech cards are $35.00, car and driver. Gate admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for active duty military and children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult.

Sunday the gates open at 7 am for a Summit E. T. Bracket race sponsored by K & N Filters with a guaranteed $3,500 purse. Tech cards are $25.00, car and driver for High School bracket, $35.00 for Sportsman and Pro brackets. Super Pro and Motorcycle fees are $40.00 per car and driver. Gate admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for Active Duty Military and children under 12 are admitted free if they are accompanied by an adult.
