equipment at Eagle Motorplex to test leaded fuel numbers At the time of each visit, the technicians will set up stationary air samplers at various distances from the edges of the track. These air samplers will be used to collect lead samples over the course of three time-frames [the day prior to a scheduled race day; during the race events [ including test and tune; and the day following the race event]. During the race events, the samplers will be operated
from approximately 30 minutes prior to races commencing until approximately
30 minutes after racing activities have ceased for the day, or until
12 hours of sampling time has been accumulated [whichever comes first].
During non-race days the samples will be run for the same time period
to assess background lead levels. -This article was edited from information provided

June 12-14. Spokane County Raceway in Spokane, Washington, has joined the growing list of NHRA member tracks. The facility, which includes a drag strip, road course and paved oval, is owned by Spokane County. The Board of County Commissioners recently signed a 25-year agreement with Austin Motorsports Management to operate the track. Austin Motorsports Management is owned by Bucky Austin, a successful businessman, current nostalgia nitro funny car driver, and a member of the NHRA Division 6 Hall of Fame. He has tabbed Jay Livingston as general manager of the facility. The Spokane Dragstrip Manager has also been officially
announced. Former NHRA Div. 6 Certification Team member Jason 'JJ'
Murray will assume that position immediately.
Spokane County Raceways drag racing schedule will
also include weekly Summit ET Racing Series events and Friday Street Legal
Drags. In addition the oval track will be offering weekly events in a
variety of classes throughout the year along with road racing events on
off drag racing weekends.
Racers and fans can go to www.spokanecountyraceway.com for more information. Or call the office at 509-244-3333. Please note that the track website may not be available right now but will be shortly. Jay Livingston SPOKANE COUNTY RACEWAY 509-244-3333 office jay@spokanecountyraceway.com

they think it's kind of strange what you're doing, but those are the
people who don't know much about it. As soon as you find out what
[bodybuilding] is about, then it's just like another thing. I mean,
it's not any stranger than going in a car and trying to go in a quarter-mile
five seconds. That, for me, is strange."

Other dates to follow soon HH back to Vegas...and this time it's nitro baby! This was not exactly planned back last fall when my wife Denise noticed an ultra cheap return flight online. Thinking this would be a cool Xmas gift for dad, we booked it, knowing at the time we'd cruise out to THE STRIP at LVMS for what at the time was labeled a two day Pro Stock test Monday and Tuesday Feb. 2/3. I also had no idea that we'd end up in Sin City on a particularly 'entertaining' day - Super Bowl Sunday. Needless to say a few days relaxing in Vegas has turned into holy crap wadda we do first! With two pro test sessions in the books so far in '09 the Vegas dates, which actually go from this Friday through to next Tuesday and include the Pro Stock Showdown and Pacific National Open, come as a bit of a little known bonus. Most of the test talk lately has been around what the pros can no longer do after the Winternationals. This pre-Pomona session is officially the last pro test session of 2008 and includes rumors of name such as Pedregon, Snake, Kalitta and more! And it's not just a pro session, but open to anybody, so who knows what may show! Starting one week today, we'll be posting as much as we can giving the drag race public one of the very few, if only, opportunities to see pro nitro starting line video different from what ya see on teevee...and that reminds me, I'll e-mail our host right now to expect some 'extra' traffic for a few days, even though we'll be giving you another url you'll be able to see the vids in case HHoverload happens again. It's gonna be a fun few days at Americas Greatest Drag Strip and a positive break from all the negative nitro news we've been reading lately. Speaking of good news...here's some from NHRA

GLENDORA, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2009) -- In an ongoing effort to assist in curtailing escalating costs associated with the operation of professional nitromethane category vehicles (Top Fuel and Funny Car), NHRA has implemented the following testing limitations for the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season. Unlimited testing for Top Fuel and Funny Car teams will be permitted until the 2009 season opener at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Feb. 5, 2009. At that point, and during the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season (Feb 5 to Nov 15), professional nitromethane teams will be limited to a maximum of four (4) one-day test sessions. This policy applies to both the team and driver. NHRAs definition of testing includes, but is not limited to, any run or attempted run conducted at any track whatsoever, whether or not it is an NHRA track or NHRA-sanctioned track. Exhibitions, match racing, licensing attempts, and the like, are considered testing and will be subject to this testing policy. For example, participating at a two-day match race will be defined as two testing session days. Regardless of the number of runs attempted per day, each day will be defined as one testing day. A team in violation of this testing policy will forfeit all NHRA Full Throttle points earned at the next NHRA National event at which the team participates. Any team demonstrating a flagrant disregard or continual violation of the testing policy may be subject to additional punitive action as deemed appropriate by NHRA in its sole and absolute discretion. The policy was developed after consultation with several professional nitromethane teams on a fair and equitable way to limit testing in the 2009 season. NHRAs decisions enforcing the policy will be final and not appealable.

My posting regarding Aug. 15 at Pacific Raceways got a bunch of you all wound up and unable to figure it out. Go here for the answer. No pro nitro cars at Vegas this weekend, but plenty of nostalgia nitro floppers as these reports from the indomitable Cole Coonce show here and here. Lots of time well wasted watching the BJ auction this weekend. Unfortunately the bubble has burst and you'll have to hang onto that collection of ZL1 Camaros and Hemi Cudas in your backyard and wait for the next round of price hikes...oh 'bout 2030 or so. Listening to the BJ boyz whining, sniveling and actually begging for higher prices is music to my ears. And when the big guy ominously yelled "DON'T DO IT" as one of Reggie Jackson's COPO Camaros was about to go for a song I bout fell over in amazement. This auction is show biz whose time has come. The 'stuff' that goes down here is just scary. 2009 West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association Event

for 360+ images from the biggest Lucas Series race of 2008. No alky
or nitro as we video'd all that..if we'll ever get to it though
is doubtful...but anyway, here's a little something to make you
dream of what is to come real soon at LVMS as they start the action
in just a couple of weeks with
a huge test session and the Pacific National Open/Pro Stock Superbowl
weekend.
Now this looks like fun (of note here for me was that some of this was shot with a near $10,000 camera, some with a $1000 model you can get at Best Buy. Pretty hard to tell the difference eh.) Throttle stop racers need not click here... When I need a break from editing D6 Banquet video 'issues' Became of all these issues and the simple fact I'm still up to my butt with previous video projects I'm sorry, I just have to put it off for a while...if not indefinitely. Because of this I'm gonna have to really take a second look at how I do this for 2009. Silly season Blaming the economic downturn is too easy. Smaller fields, even less races may be a good thing in many ways. We might not be at the track every damn weekend from 7am to 9pm for starters. Ok, enuf of the positive crap, lets get busy... Seems the bracket finals thing is not dead as HH hears a few of the tracks that got the boot are not letting the issue die just yet. I kinda think it is dead, but look for some other 'related' things to maybe happen because of it. Whether this will be a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen, with the bottom line being there are some very upset track operators out there and a definite 'big-track Vs little-track' mentality that I have not felt around here in a very long time. Look for some info to come out of MRP soon as this Sunday has the club voting on all the executive positions. Despite the fact this doesn't often result in many major changes, it does mark the point when BCCCA can really move forward with their plans for the new season. Look for the results of the vote either late Sunday or early Monday followed shortly by the 2009 schedule. The 'I' word on HH Apologies to my Alberta/IHRA racers friends, but frankly here on the west coast of Canada and the US northwest the IHRA remains a world away. The racing in my back yard has MUCH more in common with NHRA racing in, for example, far away Las Vegas than it does with IHRA racing in Edmonton and points east. Nothing personal, it's just one of those things, and it's not like I haven't made an effort to get info and actually attend IHRA races in Alberta. Those efforts of years ago were completely ignored by both the IHRA and the track, and frankly I have better things to do than go out of my way to give them free publicity. Let me ad that the HH door is always open, and if there was an opportunity for me to move in that direction I would be all over it. But what have you done for us lately? To make those hard working web dudes even more upset is the apparent fact that this does not effect those in print. If you work for a company with a magazine or newspaper it appears you're good to go to a big race. The part here that bugs me, and a lot of others, is who the hell gets national event coverage from a monthly magazine in this day of same day TV and near instant Internet coverage? Newspapers on the other hand are a loaded bunch that piss off many freelancers when a union shooter takes away 'their' spot on the allotted 'Sunday' restricted area list once or twice a year. Then again newspapers are a dying breed that matter less and less as time goes by. Regardless of this fact NHRA does not seem to realize or care that newspaper numbers are way down, then again they still usually have way more readers than most, if not all, of the now verboten drag sites. As for the shut out web sites, sure it's free publicity for a series that needs all the publicity it can get, but this is the way all professional sports is going for more reasons than I have the time to get into here. On the bright side, perhaps this will see all those sites now give more coverage to the smalltime races, tracks and racers. And another somewhat related aspect of all this is the future of 'live' webcasting of drag races. It's no longer happening even on TV at pro races, but at smaller races it is starting to proliferate. Trouble is some officials I've spoken to over the winter have some issues with it - both personal (I won't go there) and legal. One comment I got that really has me thinking is "what if somebody dies out there and somebody else has it recorded at home?" One does not have to realize this opens a huge can o legal worms that could get very, very ugly for everybody from track staff to the people and companies doing the webcast. This example may be a bit extreme, but it's just one of a number of related issues with live webcasting that some officials are currently very well aware of. Because of this HH may not get into something that could prove to be more trouble than it's worth. Drinks and more Let it be known that I am a huge fan of doing things different and wish more tracks would push the envelope to at least try new and radical ideas that go well beyond the old way of doing things. Change is good in my book, especially when the same-old-same-old ideas have been proven to offer little to potential spectators, racers and sponsors. Say what you will about Arm Drop, Pinks, Pass-Time and those kinda shows, but they are concepts that have a huge future in a sport too often caught up in the 'good old days'. Sadly most feel that if they can't actually be on TV with the real shows have no idea how to possibly take these radical concepts, make a few changes, and run with them on a local basis. The old ideas of big buck races, events for certain makes or years of cars, etc are old school. Sure they are ok, but with the numbers going down, I feel promoters must do more to slow down the fracturing of the entries into more groups and work to somehow bring them together in a fun and competitive atmosphere. That's the magic bullet that Pinks started and few others have been able to duplicate. One of which being the enevlope-destroying 'Drinks' at Ashcroft. An event that had negative connotations written all over it at first, but which proved to be a big success. You can call me Jay or JJ As for the word on the new management for Pacific - I know nothing, I see nothing, I hear nothing. How to get on HH Obviously they don't care or feel it's my job to contact them. Wrongo ladies and gents. Space on HH is a FREE service that you are always welcome to take advantage of should you wish to do so, but I simply will not go to the effort of getting your freebee stuff here all by myself. THE SOLUTION IS EASY. I know it's a lot of work for track/series staff to do for just a few web sites but there is a very simple solution. Since most tracks/series use their own sites for posting this kind of info, all it would take is a quick e-mail to HH along with a link of where that info/schedule/photo/video/new sponsor announcement/ etc is. Trust me when I say that a link on this site will get that info out to more people than you will ever get simply posting it on 'your' site. And if you have a site that uses frames and you can't send me a direct page link that doesn't require one having to go thru a slew of pages to find, please don't bother, cause I won't post it. There are ways around such things that good webmasters know, so just send me the actual page, not the site. Please note this is for drag strips or racing series within the confines of the region that encompasses NHRA Division Six. not just NHRA events, just those in the region. And PLEASE don't send a bunch of photos, results etc. I don't have time to post all that. Simply send a link that has all that to HH and I promise I will post it here asap. New/old door car for Greg Carlile My plans are to run it in the PSCA races in California,
Arizona, Nevada, also some of the local stuff like Door Slammer in
Mission and the Div 6 events like Boise, Seattle, and Mission, possibly
Woodburn ??? And maybe I may even try to qualify at the Outlaw Pro-Mod race at Mission and Boise, I just need to get some seat time and tuning time to figure out what the car will do. It has a Rodex BBC with 14-71 blower. I'm in the process of getting the car back together recently updated by John Scalpi), so I hope to have it ready in a few weeks. HH note - Appears to be former ride of Steve Horne and before him Roy Lazik. Finally a cool link came in that lead me to a bunch of simply bad ass videos of U.S. Navy pilots (among others) who make Fuel Altereds look like kiddie cars.

Smokin deals on some refurbs from Canon Canada Maybe the best drag racing team video ever... Happy New year friends! My back's getting better, it's still snowing, and lookie here, we've actually got drag racing news! First note the addition atop this page of monthly links so you can quickly go back to any month this past year. I call it a lazy man's year in review. Probably won't take it back any further, and remember you can always get back here from most any page on the site by clicking on the HH logo. This'll be a regular deal on this page from here on. And yes my nerdly friends, I looked into a site search function, but couldn't find one that would take less then five minutes to ad on...so jus foget it, I got stuff ta do. Note, the Dec08/Jan09 thing will get set up correctly soon. Though the economic outlook on 2009 is not real good, we continue to buck the trend with the coming announcement of one, maybe two new advertisers here on HH. Look for that real soon.
